She also had two sisters that died very young of respiratory complications and she was often sick too. Some incorrectly attribute her death to alcohol consumption, when actually she died of ovarian cancer which runs in her family. People need to read the new books and info before judging Bing and Dixie. Untruths and half truths have plagued this beautiful couple for years. Bing especially has had some dreadful misinformation aimed at him since his passing, a lot of which is only now being cleared up.

My mother was very close friends with the Crosby housekeeper, Georgie, and did some cooking for the Crosby's in the late 30's and early 40's. She told me Dixie was pathologically shy and was an extreme alcoholic. She observed her incoherent and drunk even in the morning. She also said she remained deeply in love with Bing though he was "busy" and absent much of the time.
During the early 1930's, my parents were fans of Bing Crosby and had several of his famous recordings, Out of Nowhere, Just One More Chance, just to mention two. They told me there were quite a few articles written in movie magazines and news reports at that time that Bing was a heavy drinker and ran around with other starlets while married to Dixie Lee. She became the drinker later. Bing reportedly regretted his early carousing while married to Dixie Lee and though married a second time, at death he wanted to be buried with Dixie.
I like Bing, he did invent the modern type of singing, being intimate with the mic. He helped Louis Armstrong. But in them days it was common to hit children. He probably was an angry depressive as most comedians tend to me. But anger is common to a lot of people, just as Greed and ego are. We do live in such a world, that only appears better because it is caged in regulation. Though my older brother did hit me was I was young in the seventies . But have not seen him in 10 years. Bing was not an angel, but his voice was.

He controlled his drinking superbly for the rest of his life, Dixie unfortunately didn't. But she was a superb woman from all accounts. They adored each other.

Dixie was already drinking uncontrollably in the 1930s; two of her four sons clearly had the facial structures that show fetal alcohol syndrome. In turn this would’ve also damaged their brain development and led to mental and emotional problems. Dixie’s drinking was ultimately her responsibility and could not be stopped by Bing regardless of what he might have tried to do for her.
