Update: While testing for the vacuum leak while trying to raise the rpm. I should have brought this up. on vehicles with MAF system, if there was a vacuum leak. at idle, the idle would normally be low because the MAF is not picking up unmetered air. But on a MAP vehicle a vacuum leak would cause the idle to be higher due to the MAP sensor picking up the unmetered air and thinking the vehicle is at a higher load. Hope this helps on your next diag.

Awesome video, interpreting MAP sensor data is one of my weaknesses and this video greatly improved my knowledge and understanding of it. Will definitely save this video for future reference, good job man.
Glad you enjoyed this video. This one was a fun one to make. Glad you got some good out of it. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the MAP tutorial. So it doesn't measure vacuum so much as absolute pressure. Now it makes sense. Much appreciated, sir!
It was awesome going back and reading on this function
Thank you for explaining how to get the correct MAP reading.
Thanks for stopping by Dave
Good one Oz! Haven't seen a bad map in years! My first was an 83 Oldsmobile Cutlass V8 Computer Controlled CARBURATOR! As Lucky Costa would say, "Fun Times."
If seen a handful in my yrs working on vehicles
Just at the beginning of this video and you said something that will cause you a lot of grief in the future. When taking a car, NEVER trust any previous work or diagnostics. Just look at it fresh and you will have much better luck and less stress.
3/4 way through video now, before replacing the sensor, you should have unplugged it and watched the pids. This confirms you have the right sensor and it confirms wiring.
That was a very clear and concise tutorial on MAF and MAP sensors. I appreciate that.
Thanks for stopping by.
Thanks for sharing your knowledge Oz, you don't assume we all know everything. But watching you, we have a chance!
Thank you for the explanations of the MAF and MAP Sensors! Great stuff!
Very good explanation, I've been doing this a very long time and its surprising to see that so many techs (young and old) don't know this.
You are the man, Oz. Thanks for the lesson, brother.
No problem Luis. Thanks for watching
Chasing parts is the norm when you unaware of cause and effect. Using a scan tool properly is the key to success.
Another job well done! Thank you for explaining to us how the map sensor works.
No problem Heavy Chevy. Th and for stopping by
Very well explained, super handy to know the basics and avoid the parts cannon!
Thanks you. This was a fun video to make and edit. Thanks for watching
I loved it Oz! Thank you for the white board help!!!
Thank you I’m learning a lot from your videos
Thank you OZ for the lesson and teaching God bless you 🙏
Great demonstration man! Enjoyed it

Great value repair video thanks
Thanks for sharing 👍
Thank you very much Oz
Thank you for watching
I love this guy
Ditto!
Great fix . It's good to understand what the data from the scan tool is telling you . Keep them coming ! I call that color 🍌 banana yellow .
Nice diag & explanation!
Thanks for watching
This is a pretty well explained video, thanks men.
Thanks for watching
GOOD ONE ,,, THANKS FOR YOUR TIME !!!!!!!!
Thank you for stopping by
To find the barometric pressure i use the weather channel for my location on that day, and the MAF is so hard to calculate while running (KOEO) due to engine temp and humidity, good fix!
Nice
Great Job 🤘🏼🇺🇸
great video
NICE VIDEO , GREAT DIAG
thanks
Thanks for watching Dan Man. Glad you enjoyed
14:33 LOL! "bloppers"! you mean "bloopers". Anyway, that was an excellent vid. I didn't know about the barometer measurements, so thanks for enlightening me about that!!! Rock on, OZ!!!
It’s a blooper in a blooper lol
@@OzMechanics LOL! Agreed!!!
Eres un crack, muchas gracias por compartir tus conocimientos, 🙏
Right on the money Man. Just like SD premium
Darn good job bud,......real good explanation tooo
Thanks woody. Thanks for stopping by

Thanks Sam.
Great explanation 👌 thanks 😊
Thank you. This one was really fun to make
My 2002 model Holden VY SS Commodore is fitted with the 5.7 litre Chevrolet LS1 V8 engine & either a P0171 or P0172 code was caused either by an.air leak or low fuel pressure.
If it was associated with an air leak then a P0102 code for the mass airflow sensor was also set !
Car mechanics are not Computer Scientists so math is not super important. For those of us who have bad memories like IVAN over at PHAD, we need to keep a notebook handy to help us prevent silly math errors. Thank you for the lesson on MAF and MAP readings. May I also suggest that you create some short videos for lessons as a stand alone video, then if you ever need to slip it into a diag video like this, then you can follow Bernies lead on how he does his training and slip the clip into a diag video. This way your training bit is better prepared and more accurate and more professionally presented rather than ADHOC, cheers.
Thank you for the video. I have a 2012 SS l99 camaro. Eratic idle until I turn off traction control and stability. Then idle runs smoothly. Hopefully your solution can fix my issue as well.
KNOWLEDGEABLE
Thank you Nick
Great diagnosis Oz! Thank you for your videos, they are very helpful. Do you think unplugging the MAP would force the car into substituted values for a quick test?
It would throw the car in open loop the whole time. Causing it to drive better
Nice info OZ!
Watch out for PIDs that only show live data while receiving a crank signal...
Been there lol
Can you explain that a little more please?
No parts cannon needed. Always a pinpoint repair. “There ya go”!
Thanks for stopping by STA
thanks that makes sense now in new zealand its average baro is 1008 to 1020mbar
Thats just around the same of 29.7 inHg. Glad I have some viewers from New Zealand 🇳🇿thanks for watching Howietorock
@@OzMechanics yup 29.5
❤❤❤❤❤❤❤
Hey Oz! My Camaro SS is misfiring on cylinder 5 with a coil pack E circuit open code and a misfire on cylinder 5 code. I replaced the coil pack and wire but it’s still doing it! Oddly enough it only does it when the coolant temp is 160+ degrees. What is going on with my car this is crazy!
Hola primo.
Thanks for all the great videos, and love the bloopers, I think it camera causes interference with the communication between the brain and the mouth and what comes out is all garbled
Digo por lo del sensor map
Where you located I need to bring my car to you
They never body about the airbag.😂😂😂
I know. But I’m sure they wanted the performance issue done first
Bloppers? 😂 during bloopers perfect.
Buaahhahahqhahha i blooper a blooper
How was the overall video ?
It was a great video. Very informative as always. Can't wait until your next one. Take care.
@@ericlopez208 next one will be a really fun one
Sounds like another case of engineered failure GM doesn't want you to fix it they want you to buy a new one
