Thank you! I just borrowed this from someone, and looked for clear instructions on how to use it, just in case. Your video was exactly what I needed, and now I feel ready.
I just purchased one of these from an estate sale for dirt cheap to flip for profit. It's a newer, and improved version of the Hoover Steamvac With Spinscrub. I like how you can separate the soap from the water, and don't have to take the dirty water tank apart to set up the hose. The biggest issue I have with this machine is the plastic is cheaply made compared to the old Steamvac which had durable Tupperware style plastic. When cleaning I usually do not use solution in my machine. I use laundry detergent. Just a small amount.
Hey man, you’re a lifesaver! It was my first time using it, no one else would show me how to use it, I couldn’t find the instructions, but your video came in handy It really made such a huge difference on the carpet
Thank you for explaining it well. The carpet indeed looks much better. I just got my new Hoover carpet cleaner and I will be cleaning my carpet very soon.
The actual use of the machine begins about 7:50. Prior to that is assembly. I recommend cleaning carpets in winter, when the relative humidity is low. I did it in summer and got an orange mold.
You explained really well and I like the way you took your time to show us how to clean it and put it back together. I just got it. Thank you so much, Jim.
Thank you for posting this I just bought this waiting on shipment. This is hands down the best video I seen detailed and to the point. I look forward on using this video over again once I receive my Hoover very excited. Please make a video using the attachments especially for the couch. Thank you. Have a blessed day!
Here's Praise, Georgia. Thank you! These videos are very helpful and they make using this little machine a lot easier than I envisaged. I had kept the shampooer in store for some years out of the fear of how to use it "without a lot of stress". You ease out the fear. Thanks!
Thank uuuu so much i could'nt figure out how to use her carpet cleaner.. she had no instructions.. none of the vedios i seen showed me nothing on how to use it ... U showed me start to finish.. and i watched it all the way through.. Thanks again 😊
Great job my friend. I bought this exact cleaner and can to TH-cam to figure it out. You did the best job and I appreciate you. Thank you buddy. Such a great help
Have a similar hoover model. Immediately observed that used as directed, the detergent has just a few seconds to dissolve the dirt before it is sucked away. I started opening the round hose hole to defeat the suction, and just used the pump and brushes to work the detergent into the carpet. (and laundry detergent works better than most official shampoos) By the time I had done one pass in the room, the dirt is nicely dissolved. Then I close the round hole to restore suction, and do a couple of passes with clear rinse. Much better result!
@@DIYJIM Whatever I have on hand. Recently I have only had dry tide. I sprinkled it along the soiled parts and then just use the machine to spray hot water on it, making a concentrate, and brushing it in. Only used a half cup for the whole living room. Have fun.
Super enjoyed this video? I had a Bissell that went kaput after maybe 18 months. I used the Hoover for the first time today. I was impressed! It has as much dirty water as yours and there's only me. Loved your dogs btw.
After watching another demonstrator hurry through the process, I was relieved to find this guy and his dog offer up a calm, stress-free “How To.” Mahalo nui loa from Maui
very helpful video🎉🎉🎉 thank you, Ive had this vacuum for almost a year but untouched because the instructions were confusing. i need to clean a super dirty area rug now and am thankful to have this video
I come back to this video once every few years when I need to carpet clean one of my rooms. I always forget how to use damn thing and this video is a godsend. Love you my man!
Thank you Jim. Best how to Vid on YT. Keep thm coming sir Subscribed. Just used mine and it worked as stated extracting a spill and cleaning the carpet .
Thank you so much! I hate written directions and they are so tiny to read as well 😥 I bought one of these but have lacked the confidence to use it by myself! I am now going to try it! 😊
I saw this model at the store a few months back and thought it looked like it would clean my carpet a lot better than the Bissell my parents bought me last year.
Very helpful video for me as my sister has this machine but somehow misplaced the instruction manual. The only thing I wasn't sure about from watching your video was when you select the "rinse" option do you need to pull the "trigger" like when you are scrubbing it?
Hey Jim thx for your video and tips advice.. well put together!! I’m looking forward to part 2 attachments for the same machine as priming instructions seem a bit intimidating and I think you will do great explaining it all..
i have an older model of this carpet shampooer but they are essentially the same. I am not clear on when to use the rinse knob. i understand the cleaning portion but video does show when to switch to change setting to rinse.
I guess if you want to wash with soap first then go back over rug with the rinse setting. I have done rugs and never used this rinse setting. Thanks for watching
Hello. Thank you for showing us how to use it. I just bought mine, but the suction is not working. The water goes to my carpet but I did not see its suctioning. Please advise me. Thanks
I have owned this carpet shampooer for over four years, and I have to say that it works rather well most of the time. After about three years of moderate use, it started to lose suction power, and the spin brushes stopped spinning. After taking the unit apart, I discovered a lot of the inside plastic pieces were essentially disintegrating and its internal system of using suction to move the spin brushes was no longer functioning due the leaks in the cracked plastic. I believe the leaking caused a couple of the bearings inside the spin brush assembly to rust and seize up. I found this video here on TH-cam with instructions on how to fix this th-cam.com/video/9DzO4eebmAw/w-d-xo.html be sure to read the comments about the correct lubricant to use for the bearings, not WD-40. There are lots of other repair videos for this issue on TH-cam if you just search for them. My repair ended up looking pretty janky, but now the machine runs like it did when I first bought it. Someone in the comments asked about the function of the wash and rinse selector. You never want to just use soap or carpet shampoo on carpets without rinsing it out completely. The dried soap on the carpet will end up attracting more dirt to stick on it and negate all the hard work you just did to clean it.
Yes, the bearings can get compromised over time, and yes, WD-40 is not a lubricant (just a penetrant and water displacer). Here's a comprehensive video on the removal and replacement of these bearings including a handy link to purchasing a new set of bearings: th-cam.com/video/EpVla1-wb4U/w-d-xo.html Our Steamvac is probably a couple of decades old, but all the polymers seem fine (well, the vinyl hose is leaching out its elastomers so it gets some gumminess). I wonder if they are using a different ABS formulation. Bearings still run like new (didn't take apart the turbine, but the brushes spin quickly and freely). Glad to hear your rig is running well. 😃
Thank you! I just unboxed and assembled one of these exact machines, and the solution tank handle is not secured to the solution tank at all. There's a place on the back on tank (other side from the Hoover logo) where there is an obvious hole for a screw, but there's no screw in it. There is nothing in the instructions about assembling this, and I carefully looked twice and found only the two screws for the main machine handle. I guess someone on that assembly line in China took a potty break and a bunch of machines went out without that screw in.
@@DIYJIM There didn't turn out to be much to figure out. All the plastic screws in the machine are about the same. I took one to my local hardware store and bought the two closest matches, and the skinniest one fit perfectly. Problem solved.
I used my brand new shampoo er after watching your video. I had an issue with my carpet being very damp. It soaked through my socks. What did I do wrong??
Thank you for the video. I wonder is there a way to suck while it’s not on rinse or wash to try to soak up more moisture from the carpet? I guess maybe I could empty the water tank and then put it on rinse? Or is there an actual setting to suck without wash or rinse?
Oh I guess the idea would be don’t pull the trigger. Then it should suck while it’s not washing or rinsing. I hadn’t used it in a while so i forgot about that
What causes that round Yellow valve to close all the time. I thought it might be when I bump into things like furniture. It seems to not work right when that thing closes.
Thank you for the video , I just got this but how many times a year do you recommend to use without causing damage to the carpet . Also which regular vacuum do you recommend
This video makes me not too afraid of cleaning my room sized rugs, so thank you! But I noticed that you only rinsed your small area rug. Do you not need to rinse your carpets?
Am I doing something wrong? My dad used the carpet cleaner a few months before I did with no issue. When I tried to use it, I followed all the directions you said but it had like a burning smell like a vacuum? I guess I’ll try again
Thanks Jim very helpful information. Question: did you find the drying factor on machine to be effective? This is a pending buying guide for me .. cheers B.Aussie
Really hard to tell depends what time of year how humid it is. The dry time has never bothered me. I just make sure I have clean shoes on or my bare feet. Thanks for watching
@electricpenguin32 I bought a mat for the front and back door, the kinds that suck up dirt, I'm not sure what they're called, and taught my dog to spin. So when we walk in on a rainy day I say "spin" and have him spin 3 times before walking in 😂 he started doing it by himself after a while.
Thank you for the video; VERY helpful! I’ve had one for a couple of years but haven’t even unboxed it. I thought it would be a huge pain to put together but you made it look super easy. Not sure I paid attention to the whole video; distracted by those giant arms, lol.
@@DIYJIMwell I have company coming to stay for a few days so I FINALLY dragged the “brand new” cleaner out of the closet, assembled it, rewatched your videos and got to work. All I can say is this rug cleaner is amazing. Lol Your instructions were awesome, my rugs look great and I thank you so much!
Mine is coming today, so I was happy to watch this video in preparation for it! I have a few questions- do you reach edges well? Like alongside the walls? That’s where it looks the dirtiest in my house. Or do you have to use those little attachments separately along walls and doors? And how do you do the stairs? And can you use some bleach in the detergent spot to help with mold issues in the basement? Do you pretreat individual stains with anything, or just shampoo the whole thing the same? And lastly, how long usually until the cleaned carpets are dry again? Thank you!!!!! :)
If you want to clean along the wall you might have to use the attachment. Use the attachments for stairs. I would not use bleach in it!! I have never pretreated any stains just went over a few times. Dry times very depends on time of year.
@@DIYJIM thank you! It just arrived and I’m just about to read the manual. :) I understand there’s a lot of things that can affect the drying time, but in general we’re talking a few hours, not a few days, right? Thanks! :)
@@DIYJIM thanks! I already used it in this one room that’s in horrible shape (it had some flooding before, multiple times, so carpet is really stained). Not sure if it looks much different to be honest, but the water was definitely very dirty. I was surprised to see that the tank is on a small side after all. I had to refill it, and empty dirty water, twice for a very small room. I have to ask you one more thing, please. What’s the best cleaning liquid out there, that seems to clean and lift the stains the best, in your opinion? I bought this on Amazon- “OdoBan 3-in-1 carpet cleaner three products in one: a traffic lane pretreatment, extraction cleaner, and spot remover”, but no idea if it’s really good (I used it only in the machine). I thought the difference between dirty and clean would be more noticeable, but it’s not. And I followed instructions in the manual where it said to go back and forth with soap, then back and forth with extraction. I probably do need to move it slower though. Thanks for all your help!!! :)
@@Martina1192 I think I have what I used in my description. If your carpets are really dirty you will have to go slow. We try to clean our carpets two times a year.
I've had this cleaner for years and finally got around to watching some videos. Now I'm seeing what I've been doing wrong. One thing though is my suction is nowhere near as good as I'm seeing here and in other videos. I've cleaned the unit as best I can but I'm not getting the good results that you are. Any recommendations or solutions to that? Is there something I should be checking?
@@DIYJIM I'll double check that. In giving the unit a good going-over I saw that the brushes aren't spinning. It appears the socket that turns them is frozen so I'm trying to fix that. That might have something to do with it. Also, when I turned the cleaner on it's side and powered on it's BLOWING air out the bottom. Is that how it works normally??
Wherever possible, DUMP dirty water in toilet, not sink. Even though I vacuumed beforehand there was all kinds of hair and gunk that clogged my sink in no time. The toilet is built for that kind of waste, not a sink drain. But the Hoover works great and does a terrific job. Nice design too!

I guess someone on that assembly line in China took a potty break and a bunch of machines went out without that screw in.
Sorry to hear that can you find another screw? Hope you figure it out.
Did you ever let off the trigger that is what sprays the cleaner?
Thank you so much. I cannot stand reading directions and this video gets right down to it. 🎉
You're so welcome!
Thank you so much for this very helpful and easy to follow instruction video!
Welcome thanks for watching
Thank you for the video. I wonder is there a way to suck while it’s not on rinse or wash to try to soak up more moisture from the carpet? I guess maybe I could empty the water tank and then put it on rinse? Or is there an actual setting to suck without wash or rinse?
Oh I guess the idea would be don’t pull the trigger. Then it should suck while it’s not washing or rinsing. I hadn’t used it in a while so i forgot about that
If you do not pull the trigger all it does is suck. Thanks for watching
Guess I should have read your second comment, thanks again for watching
Excellent thorough instructional video. This helped me allot. TY
You're welcome!
What causes that round Yellow valve to close all the time. I thought it might be when I bump into things like furniture. It seems to not work right when that thing closes.
When the tank fills up?
It only hold so much water. It closes off when full. Thanks for watching
Thank you for the video , I just got this but how many times a year do you recommend to use without causing damage to the carpet . Also which regular vacuum do you recommend
Sorry not sure what regular vacuums to recommend. I don’t think shampooing your carpet will hurt it.
@@DIYJIM thank you for the reply !
I'm borrowing one at the moment and am glad I found your video as the one I'm to use didn't come with a manual.
Thanks for watching
This video makes me not too afraid of cleaning my room sized rugs, so thank you! But I noticed that you only rinsed your small area rug. Do you not need to rinse your carpets?
Sometimes I rinse sometimes I don’t. It does do a little better job if you do.
Am I doing something wrong? My dad used the carpet cleaner a few months before I did with no issue. When I tried to use it, I followed all the directions you said but it had like a burning smell like a vacuum? I guess I’ll try again
Hope you get it figured out maybe watch this th-cam.com/video/NgNkIen_bE8/w-d-xo.html
Do you hold the handle button to spray the shampoo while moving it forward then let it go when you go backward?
Yep that’s how I do it.
Nobody walks on my carpet with shoes, that does help.🤪
That sure does help. Thanks for watching Joanne
What do you use to clean your pets feet before they come back inside? I struggle especially on rainy days to get everything right away.
😂
Love the fact one can easily clean the tank. Last two I had one couldn't get into bottom of tank!
Thanks for watching
Thank you for the video; VERY helpful!
I’ve had one for a couple of years but haven’t even unboxed it. I thought it would be a huge pain to put together but you made it look super easy.
Not sure I paid attention to the whole video; distracted by those giant arms, lol.
Thanks for watching I’m trying to stay in shape
@@DIYJIMwell I have company coming to stay for a few days so I FINALLY dragged the “brand new” cleaner out of the closet, assembled it, rewatched your videos and got to work. All I can say is this rug cleaner is amazing. Lol
Your instructions were awesome, my rugs look great and I thank you so much!
@@TannerCity awesome, glad your rugs turned out good thanks for watching again
1st off lety me say this you explain this bacum very well thanks for an awesome video
Thanks for watching!
Great video! Great explanation and tips. I just subscribed. Thank you.
Thanks for the sub and thanks for watching
I understand there’s a lot of things that can affect the drying time, but in general we’re talking a few hours, not a few days, right? Thanks! :)
@@Martina1192 correct few hours, I normally walk on mine right after I clean it in my house slippers. Hope your cleaning goes good.
I was so confused on how to use the hose so thank you 😅
Welcome
Great video, thank you! You didn’t mention how long it takes to dry.. does anyone know? Thanks!!
guess it all depends if it is summer if it is real humid. I walk on my carpet almost right away just keep clean shoes on.
@@DIYJIM thank you! 🙏🏻
I was figuring out where to put the water and solution..Thank you
Welcome thanks for watching
Very detailed instruction! thank you! I will try that also on my carpet tiles.
Thanks for watching
I was home alone with my gaurdians gone and this video saved me so bad bro, thank you so much

I have this and went to use the upholstery attachment and the plastic tubing for the water just keeps springing out? Any tips??
Not really I hardly ever use it. Sorry can’t help
Just got this from home depot for memorial day weekend. It's was around $150. Watching this before using it.
Hope my video helps you
I've had this cleaner for years and finally got around to watching some videos. Now I'm seeing what I've been doing wrong. One thing though is my suction is nowhere near as good as I'm seeing here and in other videos. I've cleaned the unit as best I can but I'm not getting the good results that you are. Any recommendations or solutions to that? Is there something I should be checking?
Not sure maybe the seal where the dirty water tank sits on. Thanks for watching.
@@scott1178 sorry really not sure, I have never turned it on when it was on its side. Sorry I can’t help
Wherever possible, DUMP dirty water in toilet, not sink. Even though I vacuumed beforehand there was all kinds of hair and gunk that clogged my sink in no time. The toilet is built for that kind of waste, not a sink drain. But the Hoover works great and does a terrific job. Nice design too!
thanks for the tip I think I might have said that in the video.
