As a 71 year old Scot, it feels like this song is in my DNA. It's great to hear it again in your company, a much younger man from a completely different background and we're both captivated by this rendition. Ella crushed it!
Was always lead to believe the song was about the flight of Bonnie Prince Charlie, after the defeat of his army at Battle of Culloden in 1746. He had to flee from Scotland to France, via the Isle of Skye and the Outer Hebrides, where he remained (in France) for the rest of his life - never to return to Scotland. But of course i may be wrong !!!
STARZ used this song as the theme song of their time travel series "Outlander".
