      He's not totally wrong though is he? We cant pretend the USA didnt instigate this war given how they have been stating for years, decades even, that a proxy war with Russia in Ukraine was the aim of the US state. And hey presto, here we are! Theres no good guys or bad guys here. Ukraine is being used as a pawn by both sides, but at least Russia is paying with its own blood and not outsourcing it to the Ukrainians.

      @datathunderstorm 2 วันที่ผ่านมา

      This exactly. I can never comprehend why they always use that overtly ridiculous excuse “we don’t want NATO on our doorstep” with regard to Ukraine.
      Reality is that they don’t want to be surrounded by former soviet republics that they cannot directly control.
      Watching these republics join the EU and prospering without desperately needing Russia’s resources (and political meddling) to survive, leaves a very bitter taste in the Kremlin’s mouth.
      It literally shows up the failures of the Kremlin to give Russians better living conditions and quality of life - and I mean ALL of Russia, not the big showpiece exhibition cities like Moscow and St. Petersburg!
      They want full control of Crimea and all the Ukrainian land leading up to it.
      They also wanted full control of the “bread basket” of Europe, and all its resources for themselves.
      Lastly, they wanted to enslave an entire Ukrainian nation and add their biological distinctiveness to their own, to eliminate the Ukrainian identity and absorb it into Russia, in a desperate attempt to increase Russia’s dramatically plunging birth rates.

Russia could have chosen to be a friendly member of the European community as well as of the Asian one, yet Putin decided that Russia had to be a big deal, a major superpower, and that the only way to do it was to re-conquer territory the USSR had controlled. To Putin, NATO threatens his idea of Russia because it wants to protect those now-free countries. He said in a speech in 2019 that Russia succeeded to not letting NATO "contain" Russia, revealing his mindset that Russia was destined to be an empire. He told a schoolboy that Russia has no borders, because of this perspective.
