- In today’s episode of The Lallantop’s ‘Guest in Newsroom’, Editor Saurabh Dwivedi hosts a well-known American psychoanalyst and poet Salman Akhtar. He is the son of the renowned Urdu poet Jan Nisar Akhtar and brother of lyricist Javed Akhtar. As a poet, Salman has published around nine volumes of poetry in English and Urdu each. During the conversation with The Lallantop team, Salman Akhtar talks about books, poetry, psychoanalysis and meanings associated with different types of dreams. Apart from all this, Salman Akhtar also talks about his personal life while sharing about his attachment with mother Safia Akhtar who was a teacher and writer. What should one study to become behavioural scientist ?
I am extremely fortunate to have listened to him on several occasions in person in Delhi (Jashn-e-Rekhta) and Washington. Every time he mesmerized the audience. We have arranged book-release ceremonies for his new books. Although this interview was a bit long, it was remarkably interesting and you wished for it to be much longer.

True this.. but I am imaging if their parents would have brought with forceful religious environment then what would have they become today??.... This is the reason I completely understand that no kid in this world should be taught any religion at least till 18th year of his/her age.
@@brijeshyadav1632 Both of them are atheist, but one should never undermine their family history. They come from very religious background. So they know right and wrong very well. They oppose religion for sure, but they believe in super power close to god. It will be interesting to hear from them on that part.

The way he simplified complex underlying meanings of dreams and behaviours reinforces the faith in possibilities of almost anything. Holy shit this is the first Lallantop interview I can watch all day. I can hear Salman Akhtar Saab speak all day. Javed Saab is highly intellectual himself but I’ve found Salman Saab more engaging in carrying a conversation.

One of the best sessions from 20:00 till end covering psychoanalysis and dreams. Aedipus complex and so on...fantastic job Lallantop. Saurabh was little irritating when he would pickup some words from Dr Salman Akhtar again and again. His team asked fantastic questions. His sharayi of tree and ice cream and its meaning , will be in my memories for ever. He has left some dots in my mind.
What have you understood by the poem. Can you simplify it?
I love trees that are neither young nor old. The trees seen in dream. Trees that lack cleverness and fall asleep Trees that bear fruits which are liked by women. Trees which are near a river. I like all such trees and I like ice cream.

What a wholesome interview. It challenged my thoughts, hinted out at a few unanswered questions, helped me gain an alternative perspective and elevated my psych in many ways. Akhtar saab has such magnetism wisdom and wit and listening to him was the best thing I did today. Lallantop team and Saurabh ji, a huge thanks for being us up, close and personal with such incredible personalities.
Listening to him was a great learning experience and at the same time so entertaining. I wish I had teachers like him during my formative years. I would have been much more learned today. Thanks very much for giving us the opportunity to listen to him.

Brilliant, just brilliant. It was a delight for ears to listen him, it was serene for soul, thought provoking for brain and satisfying to heart. Divyanshi from the lallantop is into poems, where was she? It would have been good to have more related audience that improves quality of questions being asked to the guest.

He is the grand grandson of 1857 freedom fighter Shamsul Ulema Fazl-e-Haq Khairabadi who died in Andaman Islands (Kala Pani), British India. Grandson of famous poet Muztar Khairabadi, son of Jan Nisar Akhtar, brother of Javed Akhtar and nephew of Majaz.
I always wonder what the mother of Javed and Salman Akhtar taught them. Both are brilliant in thought process, analysis and observing minute things.
He actually replied my above question in the session that our mother taught us how to think in their childhood.
