Varma, a professor of archaeology at Jawaharlal Nehru University, spoke to Huffington Post about why she thinks the ASI reached the results it did and the procedural lapses she observed. She argues that, “even today, there is no archeological evidence that there was a temple under the Babri Masjid.” According to her, “Underneath the Babri Masjid, there are actually older mosques.”
Varma has also told Huffington Post that the ASI used three pieces of evidence - all questionable - to say that a temple had existed at the site.
A western wall: “The western wall is a feature of a mosque. It is a wall in front of which you say namaaz. It is not the feature of a temple. Temple has a very different plan.”
Fifty pillar bases: “These are completely fabricated and we filed many complaints to the court about it. Our argument is that if you look at what they are claiming to be pillar bases, these are pieces of broken bricks and they have mud inside them.”
Architectural fragments: “Of these 12 [most important architectural fragments], none of these were found during the excavation. These were recovered from the debris lying above the lime floor of the masjid. … A temple, a stone temple - supposedly this is a stone temple - has much more sculptured material than what they have found.”
Previous excavations
Varma also spoke about older excavations around the Babri Masjid area. The first was in 1861 by Alexander Cunningham, the first director-general of the ASI. He had, she claimed, mentioned three mounds in Ayodhya, two with some sort of Buddhist stupas and one with a vihara. While he banked on oral narratives that indicated some temples in the area had been destroyed, Varma says there was no mention of that in his report.
The second excavation was conducted in 1969 by the Department of Archaeology of the Banaras Hindu University, in the vicinity of Babri Masjid. Though few records from this excavation have survived to this day, they apparently concluded that the area had been inhabited in the early historic and the medieval periods.
Between 1975 and 1980, B.B. Lal, the then director-general of the ASI, revived the project. Lal’s work is significant in the history of the area, even though his initial report did not add much to previous work.

जब भी कोई नालायक भाजपायी ये कहता है की मन्दिरों को तोर्ड्कर मस्जिदें बनाई गई तो तुरंत अंधभक्तो के गोबर दिमाग में ये climex बन जाता है की कैसे तोर्डा होगा? जैसे मानो, मुघ्ल अपने घोर्डे लेकर जबर्दस्ती मन्दिरों में घुस जाते हैं और मन्दिर के पुजारी पण्डितो के सर काट देते हैं महिलाओ का बलात्कार करते हैं,,ऐसे विचार आते ही तुरंत एक अंधभक्त अपने पर्डॉसे मैं रहने वाले सलीम को भी नफरत की नज़र से देखने लगता है । पर सच आधा अधूरा है,जो शायद ये हरामखोर संघी कभी बताएँगे नही ,एक समय ऐसा था जब भारत में बहुत सी मन्दिरे हुआ करती थी। और लोगो की जनसंख्या भी ज्यादा नहीं थी इसलिये लोग के लिए सारी मन्दिरो की देख भाल करना शायद उतना सम्भव नही था । उस समय लोगो को घर, जगह,जमीन, मन्दिर इसका महत्व पता ही नही था। और ठीक से देखभाल ना होने के कारण कई मन्दिर,घर,,हवेली,, बहुत पुरानी होजाती थी बहुत से मन्दिरो मैं लोगो का आना जाना भी बहुत कम होगया था। बहुत सी मन्दिरे तो ऐसीए थी जहा कोई आता जाता भी नही था । देखते देखते कई मन्दिरे खंडरो का रुप ले चुकी थी ।ऐसे खंडर मन्दिरो के पास से तो अक्सर लोग आने जाने से भी डरते थे ।लोगो मैं विब्भिन धारणायें बन चुकी थी जैसे मन्दिरो का श्रापित होना,,मन्दिर मैं देवी का प्रकोप होना,,भुत पिशाच का होना,,पर विदेशी मुसलमान चाहे लोदी हो,,या खिलजी हो,,या मुघल हो,,जो भी हो वो इन सब बातो पर विश्वास नही करते थे वो जब कभी ऐसे रास्तो से गुजरते तो अक्सर ऐसी ही जगो पर अपने घोर्डे बान्कर वहा विश्राम किया करते थे । और उन मैं कोई नमाज़ि होता तो वो वहीं थोर्डा साफ सफाई करके नमाज पर्ड लिया करता था। अब जब मुसलमानो ने देखा की ये जगह उन्के बहुत काम आरही है और कोई इस जगह पर अपना दावा भी नही कर रहा किसी हिन्दू को कुच पडी ही नही है तो उन्होँने अपनी सुविधा उनुसार उस मन्दिर के खंडर को मस्जीद मैं परिवर्तित कर लिया।आज जब उनकी मस्जीदे आबाद होगई,,मस्जीद में और आस पास में आना जाना शिरू होगया।आस पास मैं घर और बाज़ार बन गए विदेसी परेटकों के आकर्षण का केंद्र बन गई मस्जीदे तो इन संघीयो के पेट में दर्द होने लगा नजाने कोन कोन से भगवान मस्जीदो मैं पैदा होने लगे।सच यही है कि कोई भी मस्जीद मन्दिर को जबर्दस्ती तोर्ड्कर नही बनाई गई ये सब बकवास है और नाही किसी हिन्दू की जबरदस्ती हत्या की गई और ना ही उनका धर्म परिवर्तन किया गया। ये केवल और केवल देश के बहुसम्पयक समुदाय के लोगो को मूर्ख बनाकर उनका वोट बटोरने की योजना है।

मेरी दृष्टि मे के के मोहम्मद साहब नमन योग्य व्यक्ति है!उनकी सत्य निष्ठा अतुल नीय है,उन्हों ने अपने करियर और अपने जीवन को खतरे मे डाल कर सत्य का साथ दिया है जो सबके बस की बात नहीं है! साधारण परिस्थितियों मे तो कोई भी सच बोल लेगा लेकिन अपनी नौकरी और जीवन को दांव पर लगाकर सत्य का साथ देने वाले बिरले लोग होते है!

Firstly I am happy to know that my knowledge of history is so correct and aligns with what he knows. Thanks to my teachers in those days who taught facts as I have heard speculations where now the students are taught tweaked and different versions of history.

DEAR sir one more I like to add here that all hindus loards RAM, KRISHAN, MAHAVEER, BUDHA, ALL SIKH GURUS are born in India therefore hindus all worship places within india only, but followers of our two religeions muslims and cristians go out side as their Mohd Sahibji and Isu born outside India. I fully belive almost all belivers of these two are converted by force or their own choice for survival.
