How to Setup the Google Chromecast

- In this video I show you how to set up the Google Chromecast for the first time. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments below. I will be coming out with additional tips/tricks for future videos as well.
The Google Chromecast works great with TH-cam, Netflix, Hulu and more!
I always power my chromecast with the usb slot in the back. If your tv does not have a usb port, you can use the included power plug.

Helpful for me and my roommate RE-boxing the product. We're returning it because it's incompatible with our school's shit wifi, so we put it back in the box, almost exactly how it looked before unboxing it. Thanks for the help dude.

Very informative. Thanks. I have been using a free casting app, but its so slow and a pain in the backside with ads etc. I will now order myself a Chromecast, which is just what I was looking for.

Thank you. The last video I had had the man just go from packaging to plugging into the Chromecast and then into the USB port and didn't explain about unplugging the electrical plug. I was confused. So thank you for clarifying.

Having major problems!!!! I'm 65 years old and live alone and don't have anybody to help me. I definitely have the Chromecast plugged in right. Let me preface this by saying a while back I had WiFi and my Chromecast worked fine. Then I switched to wire due to frequent loss of connection. I then set up Chromecast for the wired network. It worked fine. Now I have gone back to WiFi with another provider (cost reasons). I have it plugged in right and have done all you said and when it scans, it comes up that no device is detected. I keep checking it and all is plugged in right, the chromecast device to the HDMI port, then the other end into the USB port. It's right next to the WiFi modem. The light comes on with the chromecast. It even features the background images on my TV screen and shows Chromecast 4048 with the PIN number I entered from the internet provider. But going to setup, I am not getting the screen you show; it's going to immediate scan mode and then says there is no device detected! HELP!

+Donna Manning Likely, but that won't stop you from being able to use it. Both your TV and your Chromecast should be set to the same wifi Network. You can change settings through the Google home app. Additionally, when the code is on your screen you can go to Chromecast.com/setup on your mobile device to finish setting it up.
And if I go to control panel and try to uninstall chromecast so I can reinstall it, I get a message saying: "Messages file - "C:\Users\Donna\AppData\Local\Google\Chromecast\unins000.msg" is missing. Please correct the problem or obtain a new copy of the program."

I got one to binge watch a ton of TH-cam's videos. I then tried gamaing on it and it turned out to be a beast I use it a ton with a Elagato to record the tv screen witch gits the game play. So this $35.44 gadget help me a ton.
What has happened to people's spelling skills. You misspelled "gets" it isn't spelled "git", you may want to spend less time "gaming" (that's how it's spelled not how you spelled it). And go back to school, the ability to spell is an important intelligence benchmark, IQ. If not you'll just be stupud.

Warden1S , my understanding is the firestick is the best for gaming and for the most games. Other than that I'm a fan of Roku for everything else. However I am now forced to purchase a Chromecast because basically they've made sure that we can no longer mirror image what is on our phones unless we have Chromecast. I personally think that is sad because it was available with Roku but was taken away, probably to force me into purchasing the Chromecast. I think it's seriously sad that they're starting to act like Apple now by forcing you to buy their stuff when Roku is obviously better. It's sad. If I were a true gamer I would probably add a firestick. I'm not sure if that's still the top runner for games. Maybe check with a Google search.
I'm only using Chromecast to mirror image my phone. For everything else, it's Roku streaming stick per Cnet streaming device reviews.

After set up how long did the update take? I seem to be stuck there I did receive a code that it was set up but due to the Wi-Fi connection was not the same but that was before it did the update now we're just stuck with update spinning
+jose camposano A minute or two, max. You can switch your phone's wifi to match the wifi of your Chromecast. Or, remove the Chromecast in the Google Home app and try to re-add it.

I have installed everything correctly but still cannot cast. I tried reinstalling/resetting the chromecast 3-4 times. And after set up, it just goes back to being "cannot be detected"

Mirascreen is different from chromecast it cannot be detected by TH-cam

Nope you don't really. Except you need access to Google Play to use apps like Zinitevi

My Vizio "Smart tv" (I have Netflix that works fine.) does not have an option in settings for Screen Mirroring. Will getting a Chromecast allow me to screen mirror my (more han capable) Note 4 onto the tv?????

@@tidechamp15 yes. It will allow you to mirror anything from your phone or pc via the chromecast.My tv asks me if I want to mirror directly to tv, or via chromecast (recognizable by a 4 digit code). Very handy.
@@swrennie .....yeah,it seems to work really good,I use it to stream NFL games that aren't broadcast in my area through a couple of other websites....it does help me "cast it to my TV

Android or iphone devices will work. Just download the google home app.
I have screen mirroring on my car stereo but my phone doesn't have MHL. wondering if I have to have that? I do have a button my my phone in settings that says 'cast'. Hmmm? let me know what you learn. thanks

You dont need wifi as long your Phone or tablet has wifi or internet

I'm the same. When I try to connect to the wi-fi network I connect but the network is one that you need to enter a username and password, however, the app does not prompt me to input it so I'm connected to the wi-fi but with no internet. someone, please help.

I think you answered my question here, but if all I have is my cell phone (with hot spot) the chromecast isn't going to work for me? I was hoping to use this without needing a home wifi setup.
I suppose you could, but you would have to have more than one device. I'm not 100% certain on this. All I can tell you is it needs Wifi.

I'm glad I got mine at aBlack Friday price, because as I suspected it screams / streams nothing. Gray screen. And a button - which isn't addressed in the instructions.
+John Gotwalt hmm... Should never be a blank screen. Did you change the input to the correct HDMI ?
it goes into a Denon receiver and the TV recognizes it as a valid input. And little cast window on the computer monitor displays TH-cam as the current source. My router is Verizon Gateway 2.4 WiFi - but the signal isn't being sent to the chromecast. Thanks for your help, btw. I am homebound with RA, and thought this would be a great way since I have to lie horizontally in my bed many hours a day.

yes - the problem is that my Verizon router does not recognize it as a device or separate network -- I'll be talking to them today - this feels like the last roadblock. But thanks ...
