Andy Griffith was many things: a stand-up comedian, a folksinger, an actor who was at home both in comedy and in drama… but the one craft in which he truly excelled was as a storyteller. Few people have the gift of weaving a tale and keeping it interesting as well as he did. And the world has been a bit duller since he left us.
@@donhancock332 Indeed, "The football game" was probably the first time I heard him telling a story. But even on his show, check out his retelling of Romeo and Juliet. (th-cam.com/video/Dmor_dOtw_E/w-d-xo.html&ab_channel=AMSOMmp)
This is another of my all time favorite Andy episodes ...I have SO many... The looks on the boys' faces and, above all, Barney being such a child along with them is forever funny - classic, clean comedy!
_Andy Griffith Show_ was actually a spinoff from _Make Room For Daddy_ that starred Danny Thomas as Danny Williams. Interesting enough, Danny Williams and his family made a crossover appearance on _The Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour,_ a revamped show of _I Love Lucy..._
Poor as Job's turkey. A favorite saying of my granny. She's been gone some 35-years but I remember so may of her sayings. "Poor as Job's turkey." "Drunker-n-seven-hundred-dollars." "He'd climb a tree to tell a lie 'fore he'd stand on the ground and tell the truth." "If you can't say something good then you need to keep your voice down." As long as I'm here she's not gone.
How Many British Soldiers Died in the Revolutionary War? It is estimated that between 24,000 to 25,000 British soldiers died in the Revolutionary War. This number includes battlefield deaths, deaths from injuries and disease, men taken prisoner, and those who remained missing.
Wrap your head around this: Andy Taylor and Mayberry exists in the same universe as Make Room For Daddy involving an episode with Danny Williams and his family passing through Mayberry and encountering Sherrif Andy Taylor. Lucy and Ricky Ricardo rented out their house to Danny Williams and his family on Lucy and Desi Comedy Hour which was the sequel series to I Love Lucy as well as Lucy and Ricky Ricardo appearing on Make Room For Daddy proving that I Love Lucy and Make Room For Daddy ALSO takes place in the SAME universe. With ALL THAT said, perhaps that could be Little Ricky, for some reason, visiting Mayberry hanging out with Opie and friends in the SAME universe... 🤔
@@mcgannahanskyjellyfetti1663 , Yes your right all those characters have been together at one time or another....Andy Griffith first Appeared on Danny Thomas show as Sheriff Taylor... before getting his own show...... as for Keith who played little Ricky on I love Lucy he played Opie's best Friend John Paul.
They ought to show this video and others like it in school history classes, instead of the anti-American stuff they force feed our nation's school children these days.
I recall that in real history there was a different fella that did the real work of Paul Revere's legend but I forget his name. It's sad that even now in the Age of Information I forget his name, but I still love this story. It's wild how close our ancestors came to losing the Revaluation outright if it weren't for these moments we carry to this day, regardless of how inaccurate they turned out to be in the details as we learn over time. I'm not trying to tear anything down, it's just really interesting to learn how dire things were in that point, and how so much weighed on luck and circumstance in a war we had so little right to win logistically.
William dawes worked with Paul revere but was knocked off his horse and injured, and he had to limp home. Samuel Prescott actually delivered the news that the regulars of the British army were out.
Andy really goofed when he said Paul Revere was "as poor as Job's turkey"...he and his pa were among the most renowned silversmiths in all the colonies! I'm pretty sure that's not any sort of min wage profession!
Would have been great if the camera was panning at each boys face to see their surprise and reaction, it looked up at Barney and see his face wide eyed and mouth a-gap
I believe he was the first known European inhabitant of North America because he was the commander of his group of settlers and they were actually in north America. Not in the Caribbean or the northern coast of South America as Christopher Columbus (a Italian sailor working for Spain)was.
One of the most soothing TV shows ever. Too bad he gets the phrase wrong though. "The British are coming!" is a misnomer - makes no sense as they felt themselves to be English still; most likely one would have yelled the "Regulars" - or "Redcoats" - are a-comin'!
English is the language of ENGLAND, where the original colonists were from. Britain is the land mass which includes Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland, with its inhabitants identifying as BRITISH subjects 🇬🇧
True. The slippery slope of a JFK democrat to today's democrat with a platform of Marxist ideals. At least I rarely hear him discuss it... like Jim Carey.
Paul Revere never said "The British are coming!" Why? Because the English Colonists were all British, Mr. Griffith. It'd be the same thing as riding through London yelling "The British are coming!" It's a myth that has grown legs down through the years. Only 5 percent of the English Colonists supported the revolution. Most of the colonists didn't want a revolution by a large margin and George Washington had to enlist the help of France to actually fight the British regulars. That's the reason you have a lot of "Fayette" named towns, cities, and streets - name after French General La Fayette. His full name was Marie-Joseph Paul Yves Roch Gilbert du Motier de La Fayette, and he commanded American troops in several battles and was the commander at the siege of Yorktown - not George Washington. It was also two French Warships sitting off the coast of Yorktown that forced Lord Cornwallis' surrender by preventing his escape by sea on British warships who were prevented from rescuing Lord Cornwallis at Yorktown by said French Warships. The Treaty of Paris - which officially ended the American Revolution and the colonist's war with Great Britain - was singed in Paris France, not the United States, hence its name "The Treaty of Paris". And, by the way, Mr. Griffith, my family has lived in North Carolina since 1756. It was French Huguenots that originally settled North Carolina. They were French Protestants who were persecuted by the Roman Catholic Church. "Although Huguenots resided in 10 of the original 13 colonies, the number who came to this country was not large. Their absolute numbers were belied, however, by their considerable influence in shaping the new nation where their descendants played an important role in molding attitudes on such important areas of public interest as religious freedom, individual rights and liberties, scholarship, education, and representative government. John Adams, John Hancock, Thomas Jefferson, Paul Revere, and George Washington are but a few of the Huguenot descendants who contributed to the founding of the United States." www.ncpedia.org/huguenots

I loved the show as a kid and right on through most of my adulthood. But now, as I hit my septuagenarian years, I've come to realize that the Andy Griffith show was loaded with a lot of lying---among the adults, definitely the adults to the kids (Andy being one of the most prolific liars of the entire series), and the almost-but-not-quite innocent occasional "minister" that might make a brief appearance. Lots and lots of lies about many, many things, and they managed to make them seem quite acceptable.
American history as told by Sheriff Andy Taylor. Can't beat it.

I love how Barney and the kids are hanging on Andy's every word.
The little kid just to "Opie's" left, was "Little Ricky" from "The Lucy Show."
That was a great show. The way Andy was telling that story, I thought that Andy would be a great history teacher. Great show 👍.
Opie's friend, Johnny Paul was Little Ricky Ricardo from I Love Lucy. Nobody could tell a story like Andy. I could listen to him all day.
