Not a chance it recoups development costs, especially if the source code has been lost. It didn't even review or sell well during its original release.
San Andreas was an amazing game for the time, Still is amazing. I was in high school when it came out in 2004 I played it a ton but I do think it's the second worst game in the franchise.but it's still amazing better than ,, 99 percent of games. Here's my order of qll modern GTA game from least amazing to most amazing. Gta4 is by far the only GTA I'll never be bothered to play again. Then San Andreas then GTA 3, then vice city , and GTA 5 is undeniably the best one in my humble opinion. Yet every one of them is a all time great
The True Crime games had a star studded cast from Christopher Walken to Laurence Fishburne, Mickey Rourke, James Hong, Beetlejuice and Phil LaMarr. The early 2000’s games went all out on getting some big actors to help carry these stories and keep the player invested in playing despite how terrible the controls are on True Crime: New York City
Yeah, gaming companies used to invest TONS on hiring famous actors & licensing tons of copyrighted music back then, but unfortunately a ton did become bankrupt or the product didn’t sell as well. And now gaming companies invest way too much in micromanaging accountants that this level of unique creativity is gone, except for low budget/independent developers.
@@PauloHernandezXDthat is definitely true, the only successful franchises that banked off of famous actors were already well established game titles and the one that instantly comes to mind is Call of Duty (Lance Hendricks, Kit Harrington, 50 Cent, Keith David, Will Arnett and many others) and other less known studios that tried this ended up crashing and burning because of underperforming and or not capturing that same type of hold that these kinds of games have on us back when we were younger and simply just not being good as a game itself
This game is such a jank, but I absolutely adore it. It was my favorite as kid, preferred it over GTA and other clones. Music is fire, melee combat is fun and creative, so much cool and innovative features (taxi, subway, guns in the trunk, buying cars, every building has an interior). Story is awesome, and the map size still mind-blowing to this day. Just role-playing as cop for hours was exciting, there's so much unique locations and interesting scenarios here. I'm totally convinced it would be the goat if all of that was implemented properly
Same here, man. I adored the game as a kid. I also loved the feature where you have to go back to being a beat cop if you cause too much trouble and then solve street crimes until you can be a detective again. There was also actually decent variety in the reported crimes you'd get called for and all the shops you could enter. The weapon variety was huge as well, I remember you could pick up so much stuff, even like broken parking meters and use them as weapons.
@@EvilTim1911 Yeah, the fact that you can cut off someone leg and than take it as your weapon - sick! Also used that feature with going back to being a cop - just to get uniform, and drive marked police cruiser for roleplay I mentioned. There was a cool detail in that too - if you get your karma meter all the way to the bad cop - you random dialogue changes, Marcus will act as a corrupt cop, who abuses his authority, and in general will start acting like a jerk. Just so many unique little details, that you never know they were there, until it hits you in a face. For example, there's this one call, where you have to deal with disgruntled employee going back to his office with a gun. Most players just starts shooting at the guy, which is fair, he has a gun. But, you can deal with it without violence. He's not really a criminal, he's not gonna shoot at cops if not prompted, so just trail him a bit with siren and lights on, he will eventually stop, and leave his car, without a gun, might surrender, might flee or fight you hand to hand, but still way safer than having a shootout. There's a different outcome scripted for every call, how suspects will react to you flashing your badge/firing warning shots. Sometimes - they surrender immediately, sometimes they will flee, or change from melee to guns and start firing on you, so each situation requires correct approach. It takes some time to learn all of the tricks, for example cops might confuse you for a suspect when you are in a gunfight. If you ignore them - they will open fire on you, but you can prevent it just by flashing your badge, they will apologize and help you. This game has genuine effort and love in all of its details, but because it's buggy and rough around the edges people think it's just a lazy cash grab attempt to copy GTA, when it couldn't be further from the truth
You missed the hidden bonus zombie mission You play as the rapper Redman, every npc wants to kill you and you have to get to one end of nyc to the other.
True crime 2 really is a hidden gem, especially now because playing it on pc at least is really buggy, playing it on the PS2 is the best way to experience the game properly. Hopefully this game gets a remaster some day, even though it will probably never happen
