New Yokozuna are also given the tsuna (the white belt you see on Asashoryu while he performed his dohyo-iri) and will utilize it for dohyo-iri as well as shrine ceremonies and photographs for their portraits to be shown over the kokigikan (the giant stadium they perform in) when there is a tournament. If no active Yokozuna, Ozeki to Maegashira (and maybe juryo if their match is even televised) do an introduction ritual and the first match of the card starts.
@@rafaelbogdan9307 yes, but there were plenty of times when there wasn’t a Yokozuna in the tournament to open the card so it had to begin with the Juryo, Maegashira, and Ozeki to perform the opening ceremony

Wow, and they're actually cheering spontaneously--you don't see that in modern Japanese sports.
It's just the normal ring entrances for the other sumo. January 2019 tournament had no yokozuna in the later days. Kakuryu was injured and Hakuho too
