- What a difference one day makes! The youngest eyas is up and active and ready to be fed again and again and again. Excellent zooming on this feeding with the baby getting some good bites. Sometimes Mrs. P gives them too big of a piece of prey - she is learning to give them smaller bites. When the feeding is over, we see the youngest fall into a food coma first - then the oldest starts to nod off. Thank you for watching!

The nest is located in a Blue Gum Eucalyptus tree in the San Francisco CA area.

Well today I did see some bonking!! It wasn't bad but the baby had to put his head down.

As you mentioned, Lady Hawk, the tipping has ended. Happy for the wee one. The parents movements are faster paced compared to bald eagles. Another addition to our raptor family to spy on lol Mom is too eager to fatten up her babies with those big chunks.

Hi PCM- you are welcome! The biggest differences between eagles and hawks are the size - eagles are larger & weigh more and they are more likely to scavenge prey. There beaks are different - while the eagle is more powerful and they can carry and rip apart larger prey, the hawk's beak is super sharp and curved for a quick kill. The hawks are able to soar for greater lengths of time. The young fledge in about 6-7 weeks whereas the eaglets take longer up to 10-12 weeks and they tend to stick around longer after fledging. Both are powerful raptors but as you know eagles prefer fish as prey along with small mammals and hawks do not fish but prefer rodents and birds.

I cannot get over how similar these babies look to eaglets. However it could be my imagination but their heads look bigger and fuzzier 🙂

They have the tiniest little beaks. The growth in couple days is impressive. Largest (still in food coma) looks double his initial size. Took him half a feeding to wake up!
