  • The Village Saint Joseph is located near Guînes in the Pas de Calais. It shows an enormous collection, mainly from the first half of the twentieth century, of artisan workshops such as that of the wheelright, blacksmith, mechanic and others as well as shops from the area of northern France. The founder, alongside two colleagues spent a great deal of time in reconstructing a working windmill. As a museum of the way things were, it has to be seen.
I visited whilst staying in Guînes. I went by bicycle from the campsite at La Bien Assise to Village Saint Joseph although there are ample facilities for parking too. It is situated only around 15km or so from the Channel Tunnel, yet very few British people know of it! Worth a visit next time you are passing through!

I would not have heard of it either had I not gone to La Bien Assise campsite and then to the Guines tourist office! Certainly worth a visit!
