      I like how the subtext works well for modern day. Everyone is so obsessed with putting everything into a gendered stereotype. Pat said it best, “I just want a haircut.”

    What’s great about these sketches is all effort they put in to try to get Pat to reveal Pat’s gender indirectly, i.e. different prices for men and women, but can never get an answer they’re looking for. Wonderfully written.

    • @ryanstauffer119
      @ryanstauffer119 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Well, Julia said that the reason why she did it so well is because she knew a man at work who acted like Pat. He wore similar clothes, did the same mannerisms, and would drool a lot along with doing the laugh. So she decided to share this type of character to the world on SNL. SNL didn’t think Julia would be convincing enough as a man, but then she realized “What if THAT is the joke?” Hence why they decided to leave the gender a mystery.

    If I knew Pat, the androgyny wouldn’t bother me, but the whine at the end of sentences would be incredibly annoying. I think I read once that Pat was originally intended to be super obnoxious before Julia Sweeney made the androgyny the main focus.

      “You shall not lie with a male as with a woman; it is an abomination.”[1] It is not a surprise that this verse seems to say that gay male sex is forbidden in the eyes of God. The dominant view of western Christianity forbids same-sex relations. This verse is one of the clobber passages that people cite from the Bible to condemn homosexuality. This essay first looks at the various ways the verse is translated into the English Bible and then explores some of the strategies used to create an affirming interpretation of what this passage means for the LGBTQ community. More specifically, it presents the interpretation of K. Renato Lings in which Lev. 18:22 refers to male-on-male incest.
