Thank you Irish Carbomb. I come back to this clip frequently just to hear Papa Burns and his comments to better ground myself during these tragedies.
If you really are the one that started this dialogue, again, thank you. This clip wouldn't exist without it and we wouldn't have this brilliant slice of insight from Burnie.

He was right though. We moved on. We didn't give in out of fear, we didn't let it change the way we live. The only exception, of course, is security. People have willingly given up freedoms for more security, and I am ashamed of that. But at least we didn't just do exactly what the terrorists wanted like some countries have done.

+Dylan Wolters All he was saying is that small external attacks won't be what brings us down (thanks commenter below). Look at what happened when the twin towers fell; we didn't fall with them, we were knocked to our knees but we got up, dusted ourselves off, and got to work fighting your 'pointless war' to they and prevent the pain we felt from the attack from happening to other countries across the globe.

For some context, Gavin said he'd like to die in style (nothing related to Boston). They were talking about it when someone tweeted that discussing death after the bombing was in poor taste. I think Burnie's message is that we shouldn't change the things we do or talk about, because that's what the bomber wants.

mrshizno91 Old comment, but whatever. If Joel had let Burnie finish and then said his bit, I think people would have been more receptive. Instead, he cuts Burnie off in the middle of this impassioned speech to rattle off a little bit about how the terrorists will not be the downfall of America. That's a fine message to have, just not at that exact second. As you said, what Burnie said was much more powerful.
