    These older Fleetwoods are much nicer and a much better looking body style than the next 93-96 Fleetwoods. These cars are still beautiful and never really got old. They are timeless cars and very elegant looking. This chassis/platform was produced from 1977-1992 with some various changes and different engines available through the years. If anybody wants a great example of an old school Cadillac, this is the car to own.

      The dual sealed beam headlight models definitely look better than the composites like this one has. The exception is lowriders built out of the composite headlights years always have a meaner and brighter look which vibes hella good.
      Mine's an '88, the classiest and most sinister combination of black, crimson and chrome that you ever did see. I also have a blue '87 that i got from my uncle with an buick 350 swap done by one of his buddies who had it before me.

      +hernandezrivas That's true... But I tend to think of the '96 Fleetwoods as the last real Cadillacs. That was the last of the big rear drive, body on frame B-body cars. Everything changed drastically after that, even the Fleetwood name hasn't been used since.

      I disagree, the last proper cadillac was the DTS. Large car, floats on the road, and a V8 engine.

    Although Cadillac is finally making great cars again, I hate that the brand has totally lost its Cadillac flavor. The new ones don't drive like American luxury anymore. Now they are obviously just trying to mimic European luxury. American cruiser luxury seems dead.

    • @harleykingman
      @harleykingman 10 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      EXACTLY !!

    • @palebeachbum
      @palebeachbum 10 ปีที่แล้ว +26

      brian ohio I didn't say anything about old technology. I'm talking about the character of the cars. No more soft, boulevard cruising suspensions that float going down the road. No more sofa-like split bench seating. No more column shifters, which I prefer. Those are some characteristics that were quite distinctive to American cars up into the first decade of the 2000s. Now all that seems dead and all the luxury cars are essentially mimicking one flavor of vehicle... a European flavor.

      The CT6 was the car that COULD HAVE been, in spirit, the update to this car. Super smooth rude, pinky easy steering, smooth power. That is what this guy wants in a larger 4 door sedan. I don't need it to be a rocket ship that pulls1g or swerves through the cones like a Corvette or Ferrari. Give us the 4 tone horn too, please.

      Pale I have to agree, I have a 16 CT6 which is on par with the best of Europe, and its quick, rides good, and is a beauty car inside, I too miss the original flavor of this era of Cadillac. I ve owned 15 Caddies, and enough the 1990s era the best, followed by my 16 CT6

    Thank you for the excellent video! I have a 1990 Brougham d'Elegance with a 5.7 injected and I also owned a 1988 M-B 420 SEL and when I retired I had to let one of them go. Well I still have the Caddy because of it's sheer opulence and for the fact that it is cheaper to maintain than an M-B. When my last day comes they will have to pry the keys to the Caddy out of my cold dead hands!!!

      The only modern Cadillac that's bigger and heavier is the Escalade, which is unfair since it's just an even more obnoxious Suburban, and this is a humble sedan. Made only to carry everyone in comfort and not draw attention like a peacock near bears.

    Looks just like 1980 Coupe DeVille. Minus two doors of course. I miss that car so much. 368 Ci 6.0 Liter V8 without the stupid modulated displacement they did in 1981. That was one of the best running engines ever (that I owned). My exhaust fell of so I fitted it with a dual exhaust with no cats and cherry bombs. That thing sounded so good it was unreal. Not obnoxious at all, just a sweet, perfect V8 rumble which was quiet as can be when cruising down the highway but sounded amazing when it was idling or you got on it.

    The fact that Cadillac exported cars like this one to the four corners of the world (albeit often through independent importers) but sold more cars in the US than the rest of the world combined speaks volumes about the perception the world has of Cadillac.
    Meanwhile Mercedes-Benz keeps selling S class cars around the world and BMW does likewise with the 7 series.

    @redneckfl1 You're right about the engines in the '70's, but don't forget that in 1976, the Caddy was literally a LAND YACHT! I believe the wheelbase was north of 127 inches! And, I'm sure it weighs in at well over 5000 lbs! I own a '77 Ford LTD (the BIG one), and that car DOES weigh 5000 lbs! So, the Caddy's of that era needed the big blocks just to get all that weight down the road! And, probably only getting 8-10 mpg's doing that!

    nice ride dude, i just got 1 from my dad, 1989 brougham, had to put a spring & brake line on it and now i am driving it, rides like a kittin, needs a paint job but mechanical its 100%, still trying to get used to it as i had a small ford escort which was a pice of crap and thats were it went right to the car boneyard, only thing about the caddy is if it sits for a day, you have to pump the gas peddle 1 or 2 times then it fires right up, love how it rides, your going like 50 mph and it seems like your barley moving. lots of luck with your caddy...

    Thank you for sharing. It was great to see the road test. Yes, Brougham was the longest regular production car back then.

    I heard the reason they used the 5.0 307 Olds engine starting in 1986, was because the HT4100 used between 1982-1985 was not reliable. Starting in 1990 they offered the Chevy 350 because people wanted more power. The Fleetwood Broughams made before 1982, you could get with big blocks in them. Could you imagine going from a Fleetwood Brougham with the 8.2 liter from the 1970s to the 4.1 or 5.0 from the 80s. Thats why people like the 1990-1992 Broughams so much, because it has the 5.7 350 in it.

    Another thing of note, 1990 was the last year for lacquer paint on GM cars. 1991 ushered in base coat/clear coat paint.

    Love those old boats! back when cadillac styled their automobiles originality. Would love to get my claws on one of these, not those v6 sporting, autobot-looking juiceboxes they call cars today! (except for the cts-v, and only for the engine and rwd configuration)!

    Last of the truly full sized Cadillacs, Had wonderful lines-it looked like a Caddy. Can't stand the new models with dumb letter names: CTS, ATS, XTS, SRX, etc. They all look alike just a bit different in size!

    I wouldn't mind having that car. My dad had a `90 Brougham, but it had the 5.7. Unfortunately it was wrecked in a freak accident. What a loss that was.

    The Broughams were the ultimate Cadillac IMHO. The 5.7 L engine v/ the 5.0 made them a bit better.

      I am also a Lincoln guy. I had a 1994 emerald green town car but now drive a 1990 Cadillac Brougham. Has your head gasket blown yet on your STS?

    • @haraldm.1275
      @haraldm.1275 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jnkn3497 No, but the main reason is that it is in storage since I bought it as I enjoy driving with my 2000 Continental so much. There are plans to bring the STS back on the street, but as I'm currently into another project it will take some more time.

      Harald M. That’s good news. Also the 2000 continental is great car my grandma had one. My dad owned a 1994 black STS and while those cars are lemons, it will always have a special place in my heart. We had a lot of good times in the STS. The head gasket blew in ‘05 and he was so disappointed.

    V6's, V8's and 4 cylinder engines all operate on a rotational basis with a complete firing sequence occurring every 2 revolutions (720 degrees). If you only have 4 cylinders, you only have 4 pistons firing 180 degrees apart. With a V8, you have a piston firing every 90 degrees. The more cylinders you have, the smoother it is from a firing perspective. You can't beat physics though. The smoothest engines have the most cylinders. Compare your care with a 2 cylinder Harley when you are next to one.

    engines today are built with more power per square inch and with more efficiency, but like you said you just can't beat the old cars for comfort and ride. well said pal
