Yes build a pizza oven! The townsends channel on youtube is mainly an 18th century cooking channel and they have great instructions for making an earthen oven that can be used for pizza and other foods. You should definitely build one! Its period correct and very versatile. You could be cooking like it was 1775 in no time.

@@BUSHCRAFTTOOLS One thing is for certain, cooking off grid, no phone service, and no option of driving to town for food makes one a good cook. I've cooked in a Dutch oven quite a bit, and it only takes ruining a meal one time to learn from mistakes. Having 3 other hungry people standing around waiting to eat and then opening the lid to a meal of ash makes a person a fast runner and a fast learner.

Gonna’ build a permanent oven, eh?
I’ve seen some amazing, ancient ovens in the villages of Indonesia that people still use daily. AND they are nearly identical in design to the ovens in the Celtic round houses that you can see in St. Fagans, just outside Cardiff - they make great pizza, too.
P.S. top tip from an Italian chef I know: when flattening out the dough, make it a tiny bit thinner towards the middle (especially if you have a moist topping); it ends up cooking more evenly.

  • @bbranett2188

Cover with 4 layers of wet paper. Make the same type of frame for the tunnel. Then once the cobb has dried enough not to crack fire it and let the frame burn away.
