After Akhnaten, thought I'd never appreciate anything by Glass. WRONG! Saw this last night, live, by the Chicago Symphony Orchestra with Muti conducting. Blew me away. Absolutely amazing when all instruments playing at once. Nine percussionists. Philip Glass was in attendance. Standing ovation felt like 15 minutes.
I was also at that performance. It brought tears to my eyes to not only hear it performed but to see the composer there in the flesh. I've loved his work since my father showed me Koyaaniqatsi as a child. To be there for that night is a story I'll tell for the rest of my days.
Listening to this beautiful piece would have been enhanced greatly with a video of the orchastra playing. Alas and Alack they are under one of Harry's Petronus spells.
Wow... The interpretation is so powerful I barely recognized the piece. The official recording made it feel like another one of his boring ones but here... Its an entirely different beast. Bravo!
As we can hear at 3:37 (just as an example). And only people who think that this is a world class orchestra could believe that this is a magnificent piece Spend a few seconds on thinking about why any of the actual world class orchestras would never play this piece...
@@viktorajstein In your opinion, is the Chicago Symphony Orchestra a world class orchestra? well, they are playing this symphony tonight, with Riccardo Muti. I agree the Sevilla orchestra is far from a world class orchestra.
Riguardo le sinfonie credo che Philip Glass abbia realizzato lavori via via più belli col passare del tempo. La sinfonia n.11 è veramente apprezzabile.
Kinda like someone looking at you and saying… awful Nose 👃, I can not look at you. There are so many other things to also appreciate as well as great pitch. Obviously this isn’t a world class Orchestra , But Glass is a world class composer. Respect
I think it took me 3 minutes of "why isn't the conductor moving at all" to recognise it's just a picture...
This fake thumbnail tries to be unfaithfull wit us
i also had a moment where I thought "Man, this orchestra's commitment to minimalism is truly impressive!"
I went full groundskeeper Willie when I realized it:
Ya used me, Skinner!!
YA USEEED MEE!

I was there too on Saturday. What we had that day is simply majestic.

If you need visuals, the music has failed
bruh
also watch Hr-Sinfonieorchester's channel; phenomenal performances with great audio and good video to@@LeeGee
Philip Glass has fun composing! 💖
Love it. It’s the repetitive style of Philip Glass!

Muchas gracias por tus interesantes apuntes, José María. ¡Saludos!

Truly magnificent playing from a world class orchestra and very precise conductor.

Poor poor orchestra, can jardly listen to this "thing" (I avoid the word "symphony")
Nice to read that also the hearing-impaired are invited!
@@viktorajstein Philistine.
First half is solemn. 2nd half of this symphony is battle of kitchen utensils.

Symphonie Fantastique , merci !
Love the moment when the horns and flutes appeared
Thanks for the mositure. Thanks.
Vibrant, cacophonous....splendid.
Fabulosa!!!!!
Another stirring masterwork
Philip Glass has sucessfully broke the curse of 9 symphonies
He is not the first composer to write more than 9 symphonies since Beethoven : Mahler, Shostakovich, Hovhaness,Myaskovsky,Segerstam,
Havergal Brian
@@annfenchlokentaz8592 Mahler died in the middle of his 10th.
Which symphonies? He just called his uninspired and self-quotating stuff so.
@@michaelfischer5800 Seethe as you want, snob, but they're still symphonies.
In fact he wrote the 10th before premiering the 9th...
I- 0:00
II- 12:10
III- 27:58
Live concert with a still picture?
Yes Michael. We only have the sound record, not video.
@@osjaljarafe Excelente opus y versión,Viva España!!
Sounds better than the recording at Carnegie Hall of Glass’s 80tH birthday performance of the symphony, which was memorable, except for the recording.
Audio is sharp, Gracias!
Not a patch on Muti!
¿Es el primer movimiento primo hermano del segundo movimiento del concierto Tirol?
Esto suena bien industrial? Como si el cyberpunk o algun otro genero de ciencia ficcion usara musica clasica.
It's music for dummies.
Weirdly dissonant.
Bad soundtake 😔
I notice also the friendliness of the dissonant notes, particularly in the brass.
Philip Glass is an under valued and under performed composer. It seems he is out of fashion. Too bad.
Awfully bad intonation, sorry, I cannot listen to it.

Que orquesta mas desafinada...Los bronces y violines desafinados.
