    Today I learned that apparently different materials will react to paint differently. I knew that already, but I figured that the primer on top of the resin would deal with the porous nature of that material. I take that this is of more obvious of a problem with contrast paints and washes than it is with more traditional acrylic paint?
    I haven't worked with resin models too much, but from what I have done has me very happy that GW is moving more and more of the Heresy line into plastic.

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ye I’d recommend avoiding them as much as possible. They can be a pain. Mostly just the fogeworld resin. Other companies print some beautiful models and busts in resin and there amazing.

    I get the contrast, instead of that I'll almost do a zenithal or dry brush paint job with lupercal green followed by SoH green and like you said it absolutely makes a difference just layering up those paints just to get the difference in contrasts

    Great looking dread! They're one of my favorite units. Had similar issues painting my own leviathan. Played my game against the Thousand Sons. We only got in 2 turns but I'm sorry to say I was down 2-0. My terminators did their job though. Assaulted by two of his squads. I lost one man but caused both his units to break and run in return. Had a lot of fun.

    Hey mate
    How would you suggest getting a flatter greyish silver on walkers if you're painting Iron Warriors?
    With my Infantry I'm doing the leadbelcher prime, leadbelcher dry, agrax
    But with things like dreadnoughts and tanks you usually have the underbody bits, like joins on legs and treads, be leadbelcher. It might look a bit plain if I have a contemptor or leviathan or spartan that is just leadbelcher all over so what would you recommend to make the body stand out on top of the internal joints and guns?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I would leave all the under parts of mostly silver models black if I was doing it myself. Just to break up all the colours. You know what I mean?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Nope no varnish’s. I don’t really like the finish from varnish. I find the pigments hold well enough by them selves. Having said that I don’t really put my modles in cases or anything so I can’t really say that the best way to do it.

  • @ovan2190
    @ovan2190 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    This is a great video, definitely makes these big models feel less intimidating. If you weren't using contrast would you recommend Lupical Green as the base color before the layering stage? I was trying to do a non speed painting version using your Sons of Horus scheme but I wasn't sure what base color to use

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yep lupical green in place of terredon would work perfectly.

    • @davidbradshaw3118
      @davidbradshaw3118 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I can vouch for this, a quick way to speed paint this is through dry brushing, so I'd prime black, dry brush lupercal green leaving the black in the darkest places, then I'd dry brush SoH green making sure that the black and some of that lupercal green can be seen in shades areas on the miniatures.
      Use more of a stippling motion as well for the areas that will be brightest too

    Hi there
    I’m fairly new to Warhammer and I’ve watched your sons of Horus mkvI video too. I’ve been wondering what is the purpose of applying the. Contrast and then the layer paint for the main colour, could you not just use multiple layers of the layer paint.
    Please advise thanks

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  ปีที่แล้ว

      You for sure could. The difference would be time. I did a video a few weeks ago using normal paints to base coat and then contrast paints to basecoats and the results were crazy so my way is designed to help you get stuff painted much faster. So you stand a chance to getting an army done.

    Great outcome, looks wicked. Do u varnish your models ever

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much man! I generally don’t, I think it ruins the effect of the pigment powder so I’m just careful about not putting too much pigment powder where I would be handling the models for playing etc!
      Ps, the shade layer sort of acts like a seal for the paint anyway if you were asking about the paint rather than the powder!

    How did you fix the weathering powder in place? Varnish spray?

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I find adding a varnish spray changes the look of the weathering powder too much so personally I don't use it! The powder isn't really where your hands will pick up the model so as long as you're aware of it, you shouldn't have too many issues with it coming off!

  • @Xthumper32X
    @Xthumper32X 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    How exactly does the weathering powder work? You just dab it on and it stays? I always wondered how it doesn’t just shake off lol

    • @MediocreHobbies
      @MediocreHobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey, I go in to more detail about weathering powders in this video th-cam.com/video/g4G2i_RhFpg/w-d-xo.html but basically they stay on as long as they're not in an area where you'll be touching the model a lot. Some people use spray varnish to hold it in place but to me, it ruins the powder/dust effect so I avoid it!
