I'm 53 and just now finally getting into what looks like the ultimate activity. I've been a skater and kiter my whole life and seeing Harry makes me feel confident i will do really well at kitesurfing ...for a decade or 2 🙏 Hope we meet in Fla someday!!
Thank you for making this video !! Very inspirational. You are so very right about it never being too late to take up a new sport. I started kiting 3 years ago just days after I turned 67. My lovely wife took her first kiteboarding lessons 2 years ago at age 50. We now both kite every chance we get,...what a fantastic sport !! I'm constantly encouraging other retirees to give kiting a try,...your video should help, so thank you once again :-)
I am so impressed and encouraged to see the legend who is Harry. He is amazing. I'm 63 and just started to learn to kite and loving it. There is a guy called Dennis who kites at Warner beach on the KZN coast of SA, he started at 64 and is now 80 years old and he rip's..... Don't let the old man in!! Go guy's, live it.
By the way, to anybody watching, if you really like a channel, watch the video all the way through and if you don't have the attention span (if it is particularly long) or you're busy, just let it run through and open a new tab or walk away. Come back later and hit the refresh (not the replay) and let it run again. For TH-cam channels watch time is paramount. Right now, I have it running for the second time as I type this comment.
Aw nuts! Where do I begin? Extremely inspiring! I wonder how old was he when he started? I just took my first lessons last January in Key West at 56 and was hoping to go this January but I am about to have surgery on a torn rotator cuff. This alert popped up on my Apple watch while I was in the basement spinning and I couldn't wait to get upstairs and watch. For me, what Florida is missing is mountains, woods, and snow for snowboarding but I hope to spend a lot of time down there scuba diving, kiting, and shark tooth hunting. Hoping to one day go to Jupiter and kite with you Damo.
Thanks for sharing! Great video. I met Harry about a month ago kiting in Stuart! He was learning to use a wing on a foil. He helped launch us and you can tell exhibits all the qualities that I find in so many kiters in our community. I live in Delray so harder to make it to Juno all the time, but hopefully see you soon. Thanks Damien for the great video and sharing how great the community is in S FL.
Watch #3 and I am loving that he is using a seat harness. That is what my first lessons used and I used to use one windsurfing. I have heard that some people give you an attitude (bad one) or grief for using a seat harness. The one I used was designed by Skot Scott of Upwind Kiteboarding in Key West. That is who I took my lessons from. I was happy that he uses Cabrinha kites for the students.
@@DamienLeroyTH-cam Honestly, since you and your Cabrinha affiliation were my first and strongest inspiration for kiting, I was hoping to find a school that used Cabrinha kites and I was so glad that Skot uses them.
@@ryanmitchell2160 Skot Scott from UpWind Kiteboarding in Key West has a really great seat harness that he is manufacturing. To me, a seat harness makes more sense because it connects your center of gravity to the kite. I've never used a waist harness although I have heard people joke and call them a chest harness because that is where it eventually ends up and I think it has a better chance of creating a rib injury whether low or high on your torso.
I'll be 70 and I'm just not able to go out everyday ~ Maybe once a week ~ but I would if I could. Here in N. Carolina (South Part) There just isn't enough wind. I often wish we lived on the outer banks ~
I feel ya, I learned at 64, now I'm 68. I look better than Harry, ha ha, but I don't have his jumping skills! Maybe this year! Greetings from La Ventana, the alternative retirement community for watersport peoples !
Started at 59; now 63. But Harry's more advanced than I am - I would bet he started earlier than age 59. There was an older guy at our beach, and I didn't see him this past season; sadly, I have no way of knowing whether he just wasn't in town or what. There are a few guys who are about my age.

I noticed the seat harness too. It looks interesting to me. I wonder what brand/model it is? Anybody know?
Pete you are a rock star brother! We love Skot Scott! @Cabrinhakites

I talk to 60 year old guys and they think its impossible or highly unlikely they will get the hang of it.
It just takes believing... That is half the battle...
