Oh man I started on this mixer and I have to say that it still beats every "all-in-one" mixer I've ever come across (except for the s4). This is THE mixer to get for those beginners trying to get a feel for mixing. The only issue I had with it was that the compatibility with Traktor is shoddy and Torq isn't as stable as some of the other big mixing software. I still highly recommend for anyone who is a beginner and doesn't want to spend a fortune
The demonstration looks impressive. What it doesn't show you is the hell on earth it is to install the software/driver components on some computers. Something I've been working on on mine for over an hour, now.
I bought this controller because of its affordablity and number of options to control. I'll eventually move onto other equipment as I save money, but for any beginning dj this equipment is choice. I also enjoy the user friendly torque program. All you need to do is choose the folder and all your songs from your laptop or external hard drive can easily be organized by bpm. Being able to sort thousands of songs by bpm creates endless mixing allows for discovery of new mixes between songs
I wish you could elaborate on this. I've been dj'ing since 1996. I love vinyls as much as anybody. I have over 4000 records. Laptop dj'ing changes the game completely. The track accessibility is remarkable and the creativity factor is also absolutely amazing. I can put this thing and my MacBook Air under my arm and be out the door. Soooooooo much better than the days of lugging crates of vinyl and tables with you to every party you go to.
Minimal Techno DJ right here so we're on the same page. I would say to definitely go with the xponent because there are tons of effects and the midi controlled knobs and xy pad works beautifully. It gives you perfect response for your mix. Oh yeah and if you don't like the software it comes with, VDJ has even more effects and the controller is mapped out perfectly so that it works flawlessly.
I've had a 4x4 M-Box that I've been using for 8 years almost. It has never had a problem. If you are concerned about what will happen to the equipment then get cases for it. Welcome to the age of technology. Expensive gear that breaks easily.
this is the where i first heard about the exponent, and even torq for that matter, i just ordered one, and from all the research i've done, i'm pretty satisfied, i hope it works as well in real life as it looks like it does everywhere.
I bought this and returned it within a week...I bought the VCI-300 with SERATO ITCH and I love it....I DJ in clubs and parties and the VCI is by far the best combo of Portability and quality...
I just bought one and my initial feedback on it is very positive. I've played with the Hercules DJC2 and Behringer BCD3000, and the Xponent is by far a superior product. This is not a TOY. The shuttle jogs are HEAVY, which is a great emulation of a turntable platter "feel." Switching to "vinyl" mode allows you to initiate your mix just like you would with TT's and "push off" with the shuttle jog wheels. Will post more comments after I play around with it more...
@djivimix. I have been using the xponent for over a year and it is great. I wouldn't replace it with anything. I use it with Torq and still use all my hardware.
the jog wheels do both pitch bend on the side, and on the top of the jog wheels, they emulate a vinyl start/stop feel. the sensitivity for both actions are user adjustible with the software. and, they don't feel cheap either.
it's simple in the setup menu in plugin preference just show to Torq where your's vst folder is and put yes after that restart torq and the loading will be more longer but every vst will be load into torq enjoy
Yup I agree Sw1pe, I got the M-Audio Mixlab Pro Session which is the $100.00 product and after a week of having it, the controller stopped mapping to the correct buttons with torq software. I had to reset it multiple times before calling tech support. I had to return this item. So I might get the NS7 from Numark or Vestax 300
when you get Torq they give you some basic loops to play with, but honestly you can pretty much import whatever you want into it as long as it is a .wav/mp3 format
@AceOfSpadesx94 activate the headphones listen button - it's green and on the top left and right sides of the controller. Then increase the cue volume, bottom middle two knobs.
I have a friend who used his Tap and pell check to buy this controller. However, he was disappointed because he thought that he would be able to become a Dj after buying and train with it. Now he's mixing songs for himselfin his room. This is basically for entertainment and luxury.
Hi DeeJayTan, Okay thanks for the cool info :-) I had no idea, but will look into getting an external soundcard to see the difference. I was hoping my PC and Mac soundcard was enough...but I imagine there's another level of quality to reach. Thanks again and keep making music!
for newb DJs, yes - but you need to realize that this is a good entry tool for those that want to learn. There's a lot more to DJing than just matching a beat ;)
Just bought this and yes it looks like a toy but its just as good if not better than any other controller and tbh guys you lot that are comparing it to pioneer products are mad, for the price of a CDJ2000 you could buy 3 xponants!
the pot in the vst section is the send or the output of the vst after that you can chose as well as the effect if you send or overlay to the song after al push the power button hope it works
Before you buy one of these, check the Torq Forums. Loads of people are having problems with it. Wait till they bring out Torq 1.5 which is still a few months away. I'm sticking with Traktor till then.
Looks awsome.. thank you. I am using ZVirtual Dj software now and i don't have any mixers. I was thinking of purchasing Hercules MK2, but with a little bit more money I would get this, which is more professional in my opinion
if you are a mix guy...then get this, xponent has so many effects! a lot to play! if you are a scratch guy, this one ok too,but another brand is better, coz the platter position is good to mix i own a xponent...and they are great!! sorry for my bad english...
check the website, for it. its called torq, youtube it you will find people using it. im new to this, iv done 2 parties, lol, it was a blast! the parties were sick.
great demo i have one love-it love-it.just takes sometime adjust to all the controls but user friendly . it's a remixers wet dream crazy effects also you can add tons of effects too.looks cheap in videos but well built indeed ,i been waiting something like this for along time.
@TheBenjaminge I think you should get the Numark iDJ3. It's $100 less but only has simple controls. But it has a direct link in the centre for iPods and iPhones.
In fact a thing that defines a dj is HIS OWN "technique". That and the genre adopted, number of cuts in the main bassline. Two tunes will be mixed by two djs in two different ways at all time even if the "technique" is simillar. Only a computer will "mix" them the same. Humans do not function on mathematical algorythms. Oh and btw, I favour Funky House above all genres for about 5,6 years now. It is best mixed cold. Passage transitions own. So it will turn out shaken not sturred :).
everything's complicated right at the beginning. If you stick w this control, the possibilities are sick. Also M-Audio has short video tutorials on their website. Don't even have to read the manual.
@88jluiz ive had this for a few months, played it at plenty of parties but i got promoters who flaked out on me to spin at their clubs twice. but i must say, this device was great! quality is superb, and it is trustworthy, does not break down or anything. i would recommend this if your starting out or if your on a budget.
@FTWOllie Thanks, but i've ordered this, it was just for at parties and gigs because some of my mates throw me their iPod sometimes requesting a track. It would just be handy, thanks though man and great review!
@majinforcecore yeah mate i get your point. It is reliable and with nice specs, and it is M-AUDIO, which is a synonym for quality, but my comment was on the overall look. Its made of plastic with dozens of colorful buttons. In that sense it is a toy. It just doesn't look pro. Now you will tell me that appearance doesn't matter if the specs and quality is good, but it matters to me.
I got this a few months ago, but i've had a few problems Torq 2. I can deal with the software but its jumpy and has had a few problems before. The laptop i'm using is fine, brand new and works at a great speed. I would use a different software but don't have the money to get something like traktor
Nice! :) 2 Quick questions, as im thinkin 2 get this kit on wednesday. 1. Can you use headphones in this and preview just 1 track in your ear headphones. So the crowd can't hear it before it goes live. How do you switch between the 2 while u mix? 2. Do the pitch sliders lock the speed so u can only speed up and slow down the track, or do they allow you to change just the pitch of the song instead? Or can you do both? Ne1 get bak 2 me plz as im thinkin 2 get mine on weds. :)
I was wondering about the jogs ... are those really that loose as it shows in the video when you spin them around? Is there any possibilities to change the resistance? Looks like Hercules MK2 jogs (for the resistence) and I didnt like them at all. Push them a little, and they spin for 5mins :D I'm just starting this whole dj-stuff, but I really liked the touch with cdj-400 and cdj-1000
in torq options, assign a vst folder...where the dll´s are...I suggest you only have the plugins that you use in that folder or else you load alot of plugins you dont use when you start torq
I use the xponent on weekly basis at my club gig. I've only experienced one sound glitch that distorts sound for 2-3 seconds. This has happened only a handful of times though and I just lower the volume a bit until it stops. No one ever notices.
hey i currently use torq connective with the soundcard and the timecoded vinyl and all that and i wonder if i can use the soundcard in the xponent instead of the connective soundcard? in order to use the torq software properly id say i need some sort of controller but i still need the virtual vinyl to my turntables. btw, i use an external mixer. oh and great review, i recomend torq to everyone!
this controller looks great! I was thinking of the numark omni which is about £50 cheaper but the bigger jog wheels might swing it for me. Is the filter the only effect that can be controlled using the touch pad or can you assign others? Thanks
it seems very practical - although i wish it were in the design of the i.mix controller and the vestax vci-100 the position of the jog wheels looks bad..
hey, when you use the mic on this console, do you need to use one of the channels on the mixer or does have a separate channel for that? I use BCD3000 from behringer, but using Virtual vinyl software I can't use the MIC, and if I use the traktor software that comes with it, everytime I need to use the mic I loose channel 1, so it's either you talk or you mix... THX a lot!!! awesome vids. planning to trade the BCD for this one.
Oh man I started on this mixer and I have to say that it still beats every "all-in-one" mixer I've ever come across (except for the s4). so true about the traktor and torq issues.
The very first controller I ever used, bought and learned to DJ with....memories!
Same lol, I still have mine
The demonstration looks impressive. What it doesn't show you is the hell on earth it is to install the software/driver components on some computers. Something I've been working on on mine for over an hour, now.

Being able to sort thousands of songs by bpm creates endless mixing allows for discovery of new mixes between songs
I remember watching this video 14yrs ago and than buying this controller. I still have it.
I wish you could elaborate on this. I've been dj'ing since 1996. I love vinyls as much as anybody. I have over 4000 records. Laptop dj'ing changes the game completely. So nice to see whats new out there these days .
wow, that visual feedback is prolly an amazing helper for beatmatching.
I bought this and returned it within a week...I bought the VCI-300 with SERATO ITCH and I love it....I DJ in clubs and parties and the VCI is by far the best combo of Portability and quality...
Bring back the days of two decks & a mixer.
Really outstanding product review. Very interesting control surface. I'm especially impressed that it has a mouse touchpad that doubles as a kaos pad.
I have just bought one for myself, in short time's coming on my desk here in RO. I can't wait dor it !!!
i think most of important thing is music and way of spread the music, torg will help more people hear and listen music for sure ;)
good to hear your opinion, after all, none of us are right, we just have our own views on everything
I just bought one and my initial feedback on it is very positive. I've played with the Hercules DJC2 and Behringer BCD3000, and the Xponent is by far a superior product. This is not a TOY.

it does, they are the two arrows poiting opposite directions above the crossfader
it's simple in the setup menu in plugin preference just show to Torq where your's vst folder is and put yes after that restart torq and the loading will be more longer but every vst will be load into torq enjoy
Its not that complicated. Really its got all in one with easy access. I use it all the time and get all good remarks with my mixing. I love it.
wow, very good piece for creating beautiful sounds effects.
Thanks for posted.
Yup I agree Sw1pe, I got the M-Audio Mixlab Pro Session which is the $100.00 product and after a week of having it, the controller stopped mapping to the correct buttons with torq software. wow this thing is a dream for bedroom DJ's
i'm a torq user, and i want this thing so bad. but the traktor s2 looks so sexy.
Just bought this and yes it looks like a toy but its just as good if not better than any other controller and tbh guys you lot that are comparing it to pioneer products are mad, for the price of a CDJ2000 you could buy 3 xponants!
really like the layout of this controller. except the pitch control not being on the outside.
will i get clowned on if I show to a gig with this.
Yes, Torq has a feature that allows you to record to a Wav-file, which in turn easily can be burnt to a CD.
the pot in the vst section is the send or the output of the vst after that you can chose as well as the effect if you send or overlay to the song after al push the power button hope it works
I bought a Hercules 500 last month and now I wish I had known about this one. I am an M-Audio guy
Before you buy one of these, check the Torq Forums.
Loads of people are having problems with it. Wait till they bring out Torq 1.5 which is still a few months away.
I'm sticking with Traktor till then.

@popopopopopo8 it comes with its own full software, so you dont have to worry about compatability
It is. It's working with anything MIDI.
@randomguy434 yes, you can disable the lights.
everything's complicated right at the beginning. If you stick w this control, the possibilities are sick. Also M-Audio has short video tutorials on their website. Don't even have to read the manual.
the xponent also has its own soundcard and has bigger touch-sensitive jog wheels... the 4D is pretty badass tho =P
@DUDEmethaar yes it is. The unit is so flat and narrow you'd have to be drunk to hit the controls on the way up to the platters.
I agree very good product review! Would this be a good product for a beginner or is it for someone with more experience
I was out and I got to try it. It's pretty rad.
looks like a nice thing to play with
Use X-Fade located in the mixer within Torq.
@randomguy434
You can make it so it remains illuminated but not flashing in sync with beat. Personally doesn't get annoying after a while.
I liken this but in your opinion whats the best Midi DJ Controller available on the market right now, in this price range..??
thanx for the review
@88jluiz ive had this for a few months, played it at plenty of parties but i got promoters who flaked out on me to spin at their clubs twice. but i must say, this device was great! quality is superb, and it is trustworthy, does not break down or anything. i would recommend this if your starting out or if your on a budget.
i played with one the other day, tons of fun!!!
this is some old ass technology when it comes to what is available now.
@FTWOllie Thanks, but i've ordered this, it was just for at parties and gigs because some of my mates throw me their iPod sometimes requesting a track. It would just be handy, thanks though man and great review!
I really want one of these badly!
Yes it will work in Virtual DJ , You yust need to set it upin VDJ settings .
When i upgrade i am seriously considering this
@majinforcecore yeah mate i get your point.
@Tubemaster32 you have to turn it on in the Torq-Options
I got one and I´m pretty satisfied. Great tool;

I want one of these so much!!!
The last tune is H-Man - 51 Poland street (Extrawelt remix)
Funnily enough I bought it from the same address as the title
MYN COMING IN 3 DAYS :) VERY HAPPY
How much?
Nice! :) 2 Quick questions, as im thinkin 2 get this kit on wednesday.

great demo.
go up to preferences on torq, then to xponent tab on top right and click reset midi, that will def work!!!
man this is freakin awesome, I sooo wanna get this!!!!!!!!
Looking to buy one of these SH. Thanks for the video, helps no end.
What is the going rate for good SH version ?
Regards
Dj1
that is an awesome controller
Anyone who is unwilling to advance is already behind the curve.
@randomguy434 Yes, you can set them to stay on steady.
very very very thank u. you help me very much but..... did it scratch???
i always want one! just not too sure if the quality of the choons are the same on cdj's or Turntables. or will it be good also for club use.
This is soooo sick!!!!!!!!!!!!1 Love it!!!!!
You don't have to use it but I agree, they do have pitch faders though.
I was wondering about the jogs ... are those really that loose as it shows in the video when you spin them around? Is there any possibilities to change the resistance? @bigdooby1 the ns7 is 1500 euros and this one here is 500 euros. its a big difference for someone with a tight budget
The fast song mixed in @5:00 untill the end is "h-man - 51 poland street (extrawelt remix)
yea unique squared has a mapping for it also
it seems very practical - although i wish it were in the design of the i.mix controller and the vestax vci-100
the position of the jog wheels looks bad..
thanks for the vid does the xponent come with the full torque software ?
thanks
@sheunghyun No, its an audio card also
