I picked up the Platinum FX and love it! I talk to other DJ's and they've been djing for years and still don't have paddle switches and paid 4 times more for many of the platinum standard features.
I cannot wait for the Numark Mixtrack Platinum FX...ITS SO AWESOME...But i still wish they have an XLR output that really would put these amazing controllers more insane...
I just bought the platinum fx today(21/09/2024) so at least 4 years later and glad I did. I'm new to djing and just wanted a decent device for mixing my own music. The price was amazing too at only $449 aud so it looks like they've kept the price down which is great for a beginner like me.
I’ve been brand loyal to Numark since I began DJing over 10 years ago these are giving me hope that there’s something in the works to compete with the Pioneer DDJ-1000SRT because I’m really close to jumping ship and switching brands but I’m holding on because I know Numark really cares about being fully Serato compatible and other brands look at it as an afterthought
Had mine about a week and love it I feel I get so much more performance features from vdj than serato from loop roll on the pads to sound color fx just need to decide on paying 99 dollars for a license for Vdj just for this controller or to get a serato license
I'd been a Numark MixTrack Pro fan for years, as I've owned almost every generation - in fact, I still have my MixTrack Pro II and 1st generation MixTrack Platinum (my first MT Pro, unfortunately, I had to get rid of due to one of the cue buttons breaking). I purchased a Mixars Primo recently (see profile pic), which I absolutely love, but I must say I do like how Numark has finally stepped their game up. If I didn't have my Primo already, I would definitely buy the MT Platinum FX!
I re entered the dj scene with a numark mixtrack Pro mk1 a white one back when the 1st came out 1st controller with touch platters great controller good memories
I have a feeling that Inputs and Outputs are the main features that make a controller more or less expensive. If these controllers could have XLR main out, RCA main out2, booth, and XLR mic then both controllers could be in the 500-700 dollar mark. Everything else is just introduced differently. The FX section is taken off the top and put in the middle which leaves space to make the jog wheels bigger. Pads are thinner, smaller loop section which gives more pitch fader space. Good job by Numark
Why would these controllers have all those extra features, they're both entry level. If you want those features, that's why you'd get an NV, NS6II or NS7.
Compared to DDJ-400 the Platinum FX seems to bring few improvements, but the Serato... That additional 200$ you have to spend on software to get the same functions as in rekordbox, basically doubles its price.
These are NEW controllers in 2020, DDJ400 (at least when I picked up mine) is 2018. These still cannot hold up against a DDJ800, which I think the platinum is trying to do. I do like the size of the jog wheels and IF the PRO is a scratch controller, it would have been nice to have a crossfader curve setting versus two mics
not really, if you're doing drop scratches, you need to bring back the record to start of the sound. you need visual markers. It's either on display on the jogs, or you have to look at the screen, which sucks. It's not useless, more like a compromise. The alternative is to hold the jog in place and hit a hot cue, but you need 2 hands for that, and you need to take your hand off the crossfader for a moment, and that is a drawback. So it's better to have them on static jogs than to not have them Later edit: my bad, you were referring to the markers on the PRO FX. Yeah, you're pretty much right unless one is learning to baby scratch. I was referring to the moving markers on the jog displays.
You know what's funny? The Mixtrack Pro FX recently saw a significant price drop here in Austria and Germany. It's now down to 155€ brand new on Amazon, whereas the Mixtrack Platinum FX still costs 230€. That's a price difference of 75€, and for that, I really don't think the Platinum is worth it. The 2 main reasons imho: 1. The 4-Deck control is nice to have, but merely a gimmick rather than an actual, useful feature. Like you said in the video, due to the fact that Deck 3 and 4 share the channels with 1 and 2, you can get confused and quickly lose track of the situation when actually mixing more than 2 tracks at the same time. 2. Apart from rudimentary options like displaying the BPM or showing the elapsed/remaining time, the small screens on the jogs are just an extremely stripped-down version of the Pioneer DDJ-800/1000 screens. Again, a nice looking gimmick, but definitely not worth the extra 75€. In conclusion: if you're a beginner on a tight budget, there's absolutely no way around the Mixtrack Pro FX since it now offers the best value for money in the entire entry level segment!
The only argument I have for this, is if you are going to do weddings, you may occasionally haveultiple songs during intros. If you can have most of them loaded, life will be much easier lol
Really good review :) Waiting for the Pro FX vs DDJ400 Can You feel a difference in the feel of Jogs with display on Platinum and the on without on the Pro ?
Thank you dude, I will be buying one of these next week. I brought a pioneer sb3 and I feel so ripped off, there is no cue mix knob so it's hard to mix through my headphones in my apartment at night and the pitch sliders are horrible, so short and sensitive and they sometimes change by themselves! I think the sb3 is suited for people who want to mix hip hop and use sync. Pioneer should be ashamed of themselves.
I've always appreciated Numark's equipment, I have a Mixtrack II, and I'm always updating its mapping so I don't get left behind, as soon as possible, I'll be getting a more current one as possible.
Great overview Jamie👌 These look great, a fantastic entry level choice. I’d pay the extra $50 also If I was looking to start DJ’ing for the first time👍
@@niksdaya1284 pioneer ddj400 is what you will want as a beginner IF you want the club style layout, if your NOT looking to be under club layout, get any controller that isnt Pioneer.
can you record DJ sets with Serato DJ lite? I need to know this before I purchase it I started out with the numark NS6 which came with Serato DJ pro which was free but i hear you have to pay for it with the platinum controller or don't you
@@thefullenergychannel2879 Sorry for the necro reply, but in theory it should carry across regardless of the controller - same with VirtualDJ (which I've retired due to not working with my controller), and Mixxx - which I wish had a lot more traction because it's glorious and free :)
Thank you for your review, I have the DDJ 1000. I just ordered the FX Platinum just to have a smaller set up, try Serato and the BPM in the jog wheel. As always you have great videos.
Is the 4 deck one supporting only 2 channels? I guess so. If it were 4 channels, wouldn't it be hard to adjust the knobs and pitch faders when two tracks are layered on the same deck?
Excellent review. Key words: "technology transfer/diffusion with the InMusic ecosystem". This is really good to see a convergence of diff premium qualities being condensed in these entry's. What better Corona-economic meltdown gift can a DJ get than any of these?
Hi Jamie, thank you for your video, the platinum fx looks a serious piece of kit. I appreciate this is powered by usb and not ac, if i may ask you what would stop you from using this at gigs.
Looks amazing for the price, apart from the play/cue buttons maybe. But the rest is surprisingly good for such price tag. I wonder how it sounds comparing to other entry level controllers... Anyway, beginner djs today have a great choice to start of without spending a fortune
The sound output was great, it's 24bit audio which is standard for comparable DJ controllers. We are really impressed by the features on these units given their price!
I have the Pro and I can tell you this is a solid controller. I bought it during COVID so supplies were limited. I was lucky enough to grab the last one. I have pulled off some nice mixes with this controller. I do, house, techno, progressive house, funk. I do love this controller, but I'm ready to upgrade to a Pioneer big boy. This controller is definitely a badass entry level controller. I come from the vinyl mixing days. Great review as well! You have a new Sub to your channel! :)
NUMARK; take the layout and paddle switches and onboard center display on jogwheels w the 16 pads of the platinum fx and add it to the numark mixstream pro touchscreen standalone. keep xlr outs and also remove the speakers of the stand alone and IT WILL BE THE controller of 2022 to get, imo. charge 800-900 and im ordering it today
Considering 4 decks with 2 volume faders is kinda useless/annoying to use and usually end up not being used, the bpm readout being a bad habit (I feel waveform would be better don't know why they insist on bpm), the 50 dollar difference and the scratch mark, I'd actually go with the cheaper one.
this was super helpful -- thanks guys! I'm curious, in the past four years since releasing this video, are there any other contenders you would consider that have since been released @crossfader?
Aren't lines on the wheel a bit pointless if the the wheel doesn't spin, like the Rane 12? Also I'm a bit concerned with what you said about the quality of the fader - is it a deal breaker for scratching? How does it compare to ddj 400 etc?
Can anyone help me? I am trying to install the firmware 1:14 for this controller and there was no tutorial or step-by-step process on how to can someone please help thanks much.
Hi, Mix track pro has the beep feature where you can edit out words you don't want and still keep the song going, can you get that feature/function on the Platinum Fx? and if yes how?
Just purchased one of these and could not be happier, first mix sounded like it was out of a club. If you are planning on manual beatmatching DO NOT I repeat do not buy a pioneer entry level controller, the pitch faders on them are so small and sensitive it's a beyond a joke and the DDJ-SB3 doesn't even have a cue mix button for mixing through your headphone late at night, thank you numark and crossfader!!!
Having the bpm is worth it. No need to take the eyes of the controller. That's about the only feature I use of them. The marker lacks resolution, as in there are to few bars to be accurate. Tried to get used to it, but couldnt
They look amazing and great for beginners. Started with a Numark mixtrack pro 2 myself ( which by the way if your on a really tight budget is great. Around £70 on eBay )
Really useful vid. Thinking of upgrading to one of these two from DJ2GO2 TOUCH which I got on a bit of a whim, after being solely vinyl for many years. DJ2GO2 TOUCH is great but no individual EQs or effects etc. Am thinking Mixtrack platinum based on your vid as I'm not fussed about scratching and those extra displays look useful...
I have mixtrack platinat and i want upgrade With fx next controller,It Washington great if this New controller mixtrack fx have MARGE FX like Pioneer flx 6
Definitely a big improvement over the last model. Beat jump instead Fader cuts would be far better. I dont know why Numark dont do a full pro 2 deck unit with this size footprint with XLR, full effects control and so on for Serato. Just a fully fledged versatile 2 channel unit to shut millions of people like me up..for 5 minutes.
It's useful when first learning with samples, setting the hot cue will place the virtual needle to 12'o clock. Setting the jogwheel to 12 and then pressing the hot cue will keep the platter in the same position as the virtual needle, allowing beginners to grasp basic timing and movement. You're right though, on a playing track it's not helpful.
Ah I see what you mean. But still I feel like it isn't such a big "feature" to begin with becaus of this reason. But then again we're talking about a 200 dollar controller, where more is more. 😅
Awesome and very detailed review! Was looking for an upgrade for the mixtrack platinum. To be able to use 8 hotkeys is great. The FX Series is really looking good!
Perfect Video for me.. Im a komplete beginner.. i mean komplete.. :)What did you think about the Pioneer DDJ400 Vs. Platinum FX? I dont wanna go to clubs etc. its only for homepartys. (my homepartys)
Damn! I was planning on buying DDJ 400 now that platinum FX looks nice. I'm still leaning DDJ 400 because its closer to club level controllers. can you offer clarity?
Pioneer dj recently updated rekordbox and the new version is on a monthly subscription basis. I'm assuming ur a beginner and I would advise u not to get the ddj 400. It's pioneers way of tying you to their products. the most important thing as a DJ is the skill, scratching, mixing etc. It doesn't matter if ur using a cdj or a turntable or a beginner controller like the Numark Mixtrack
Bought mixtrack pro fx. Had to send 2 of them back. Controller wont connect with computer. Tried both apple and pc. Also have ns7iii and nvii working fine
Hello Crossfader, Wanting to get into DJing and now I'm not sure if my first controller should be Numark Mixtrack Platinum or Pioneer DDJ 400. Not that interested in scratching and effects that much (for now at least). Ideally want to get to develop core DJ skills in order be able to make mixes for YT channel and maybe perform at local bars and clubs. Which one would you recommend? Thanks, Aleks
Hey how is it going I got a question for you, have u tried this with virtual dj, if so do you need to upgrade your software or virtual dj support this controller as mixtrack pro platinum.
Is there a similar upgrade from the platinum FX similar to the NS6II? I really like the paddle feature on the FXs. In fact I have pretty much decided to go with the NS6II, but if Numark is going to come out with an upgrade with paddle effects and 4 decks with XLR outs. I love your videos and your website. I will be taking lessons as soon as I get my gear. Thanks!
What good is a position marker on a non rotary jogwheel? It serves no purpose for scratching. As soon as you let the record go the marker no longer corresponds to the same position.
This vs DDJ 400, hmm..... Using a DDJ-400 recently has been fun but I prefer the open ecosystem of Serato. I may have to return the 400 and give this a shot.
Great review. Thanks. Now experiencing some significant fomo. Recently purchased a mixtrack pro 3. Quick question, if I may? How significant is the build quality difference between the 3 and the new models??
so i bought the Pioneer ddj200 last week, because it used Spotify and iphone/ipad. Now Spotify no longer works. So, my controller is going back to the store. Btw to these decks work with New chromebooks and or ipad? Thank you:) awesome video
I like to use key mapping by shift for the FX section to change the sound color fx by FX keys! Does the Shift button has any effect in FX section keys?
DJ Lite comes free with the controller, DJ Pro is a pay once kind of affair. I had a previous software that came with the very first Pioneer controller, the DDJ-S1. I think it was called Switch? Anyway, at some point they discontinued both it and the original Serato software, and upgraded you free of charge to DJ Pro. I've had it for like 12 years or more and there's no charge once you've got it.

I'm seriously impressed with these. I thought they would be in the $500+ range before you showed the price
As are we! Amazing level of features for the price!
Kind of unbelievable the Platinum is only $249!
Actually glad there is a company letting there customers try features you would find on some pro gear for alot less.
You're forced to pay a subscription to use half of the fuckin buttons. It's a trap for a subscription for serato pro.

Is numark pro fx can work with virtual Dj?????
DDJ 400 VS MIXTRACK PLATINUM?? WHICH ONE SHOULD I BUY?
Just bought me one, would’ve been great if they put xlr connections instead of rca but still a great controller.
I own a hurcules impulse 300 and i want a cheap 4 channel controller. It it worth the money.
Hi, does the Platinum FX Feature a slicer setting or is it just the Fader cuts im a bit confused?
Great review. One question, Do these units require a specific version of Windows? For instance, will this work on Windows 8.1?
I am very happy I made the right choice 😎💪💪💪
I don't quite get how the line should help scratch djs? I mean the platters would need to be motorized for the line to be of any use.
Just got one bout to start
Need Guidence, It is a great video but I want to know How to use beat fx like pioneer in numark?
Hii, please recommend one from sb3 vs ddj400 vs mixtrack platinum for entry level
Awesome and very detailed review! Was looking for an upgrade for the mixtrack platinum. To be able to use 8 hotkeys is great. The FX Series is really looking good!
Glad you enjoyed it!
Already ordered mine
I never knew that Malfoy was so into Deejaying!
Bought mixtrack pro fx. Had to send 2 of them back. Controller wont connect with computer. Tried both apple and pc. Also have ns7iii and nvii working fine
Hello Crossfader,
Wanting to get into DJing and now I'm not sure if my first controller should be Numark Mixtrack Platinum or Pioneer DDJ 400. Not that interested in scratching and effects that much (for now at least). Ideally want to get to develop core DJ skills in order be able to make mixes for YT channel and maybe perform at local bars and clubs. Which one would you recommend?
Thanks,
Aleks
SUPER helpful review bro! Thank you so much!!
Could you use this controller with the new tractor pro 4 software
Hey how is it going I got a question for you, have u tried this with virtual dj, if so do you need to upgrade your software or virtual dj support this controller as mixtrack pro platinum.
As of June 11, 2020, both of these are natively mapped to Virtual DJ
Then you to update the mix deck quad that would be awesome with CD players usb, thumbdriives all in one
Can you use this mixer to mix in a bar/club? It has so many dope features!! 🔥
Great review, you helped me a lot to make a choice, so im gonna buy this thing for startup, thx
Glad we could help!
so i bought the Pioneer ddj200 last week, because it used Spotify and iphone/ipad. Now Spotify no longer works. So, my controller is going back to the store. Btw to these decks work with New chromebooks and or ipad? Thank you:) awesome video
Good job😊appreciate it
I like to use key mapping by shift for the FX section to change the sound color fx by FX keys! Does the Shift button has any effect in FX section keys?
They look nice...although I dont think they will have huge difference from existing ones....but they look promising
As a new DJ I'd like to ask if Serato DJ light and Serato DJ Pro are paid once or with a monthly subscription? Thank you!
