One police driver purposely swerved out of the way of the of the stolen car in the cul de sac! BIG error in judgement by LAPD. Any collision at the slow speed at this location would have been far less dangerous than almost anywhere else in this high speed chase. PLUS the chase would have ended there, avoiding any potential deaths from the criminals excessive speeds and with no lights.
NO officer is obligated to risk his/her life or have it ended by a suspect in the capture of a violent criminal. High speed surveillance pursuits are EXPERTLY managed and their backup plans change as fast as those in the military, sometimes every 30-60 seconds. What you critics DON'T KNOW of how these pursuits are developed when you DON'T HAVE A CLUE shows you action gore freaks think these are a bunch of ignorant, untrained cops just driving around together looking for kicks and the local Friday night demolition derby or wacko sideshow put on by bored, peasant class ignorant people who lack facts and the minds to process them.

Fact is you can’t just try to Ram them to stop them. Case law requires a way out. You can’t intentionally use what would be deadly force UNLESS the situation would warrant it. A PIT is different than ramming them head on. The cops did exactly what they had to do and that was to move out of the way and prevent themselves from being rammed or ramming the vehicle. The suspect did not do anything up to that point to warrant them trying to ram him to stop him. If he was attempting to strike the officers or had already done it, then it would be a different story. They can’t not escalate force above what is reasonable. And going head on with a 3k pound vehicle is just dumb when it’s not warranted. You may call them keystone cops, but fact is they, not you, know exactly what they are doing.

They know what they are doing, and did exactly what they are supposed to. It may look bad on the video, but they are not trying to play for the viewing public. They are bound by laws to follow certain laws during pursuits, as well as policies. Going head to head with a vehicle at speeds of 20-30 MPH isn’t where you want to be. The risk to officer safety is too great.

He gave up and was sprawled out in a drive for several minutes and the vid ended with him still not in cuffs. He could’ve broken into any number of residences and hurt someone. I truly am at a loss. This was an active pursuit and not a black and white in sight giving truth to “there’s never one around when you need’em”.

From watching many of these over the past few years, I've seen a LOT of pretty incompetent police work during these chases. I know it can't be easy, but wow... the cops in the LA area seem to be far less skilled than most other major cities. Several examples in just this one instance. Missed opportunities in cul-de-sacs and elsewhere. And at one point the dude was so certain he had lost them that he literally bailed. So what do the cops do? They turn a big old spotlight on him as if to say "We see you! You better get back in that car if you want to keep this going!" So he's like Sure thing! Similarly at the gas station. Who knows if he was literally gonna stop and get gas... we'll never know, because the one cop car couldn't even wait for 30 seconds to see if he was gonna get out of the car, ending the chase. Instead they come flying in while he's still moving, and so whatever plans he might have had change... and the chase is back on. Also one (or more?) failed spike-strip attempts. And several times a dozen cars in a nice neat little row behind him.... for a few minutes... then back off again. So overall, not too impressed. :)

These cops need to get with arkansas state police and learn how to stop a chase in about 2 minutes literally, especially trooper Byrd with ASP. If you like chases you should checkout ASP chases.
I have seen ASP chases and they do PIT at high speed; and they don't sit and wait for the crook to give up, they go and pull the crook out of the car. L A cops hold up 4 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic backed up for 4 miles. These folks have to wait 2 to 3 hours with their cars idling for the A/C. It's ludicrous!! The cops are trained wrong, you don't have to PIT by swerving into the fleeing car, you have only to bump it and it will turn. Law enforcement should get advice from a physics or engineering prof about the dynamics of motion. Pool shooters will know what I mean. Spike strips are pretty much useless, too flexible and curls up when thrown as well as hard to find a place to throw it. The best thing to do is to use “The Grappler”. Guaranteed to stop the car in less than 100 feet with no damage to either car. If you can get close enough to PIT the Grappler will work. Why does L A law let the criminal dictate the show by being so timid??? Look at chases in the UK, they actively apprehend their criminals, no problem!!!

These cops need to get with arkansas state police and learn how to stop a chase in about 2 minutes literally, especially trooper Byrd with ASP. If you like chases you should checkout ASP chases.
I have seen ASP chases and they do PIT at high speed; and they don't sit and wait for the crook to give up, they go and pull the crook out of the car. L A cops hold up 4 lanes of bumper to bumper traffic backed up for 4 miles. These folks have to wait 2 to 3 hours with their cars idling for the A/C. It's ludicrous!! The cops are trained wrong, you don't have to PIT by swerving into the fleeing car, you have only to bump it and it will turn. Law enforcement should get advice from a physics or engineering prof about the dynamics of motion. Pool shooters will know what I mean. Spike strips are pretty much useless, too flexible and curls up when thrown as well as hard to find a place to throw it.
The best thing to do is to use “The Grappler”. Guaranteed to stop the car in less than 100 feet with no damage to either car. If you can get close enough to PIT the Grappler will work. Why does L A law let the criminal dictate the show by being so timid??? Look at chases in the UK, they actively apprehend their criminals, no problem!!!
If these thugs were in Texas, they would have already been stopped (forcefully), handcuffed, and headed to jail!!!
