With the UAP report being released by the Pentagon this month, more are looking at this UFO mystery from a scientific perspective. Dr. Avi Loeb discusses why the UAP sightings should be taken seriously as he offers to lead a scientific inquiry to study these sightings and determine just if they are nothing more than atmospheric phenomena or something else.
Avi Loeb joins John Michael Godlier to discuss how to determine what UAP are.

I don't know what they are but I don't think they're from another country. Maybe alien spacecraft or probes. Or just my very unlikely theory they could be alien creatures who live in space and visit planets. Not technological but biological. 😁

Seems very unlikely that anything smart enough to traverse the stars would still be biological at all. We already have artificial hearts , joints & all kinds of implants.
Why have forms at all? Almost certainly any intellect that came here would be artificial intelligence that evolved long ago from biological forms.
I was writing this then they finally addressed it. Ugh.
Seems to me the ship itself would be the intellect. If there was a consciousness at all which seems nearly as unlikely

Around 15 years ago - just sitting on the balcony in Germany with a cup of coffee and smoking a cigarette on a sunny day - I saw one of those circle shaped objects you can read about in UAP “storys”. It changed its position twice with incredible speed, better to say it vanished here and
reappeared there instantly. The encounter ended after, say, 5 minutes when it vanished definitely. This did not happen instantly but reminded me of the screen of an older tv when you turned it off. The object got smaller and smaller, I think it flew away, and disappeared within a second, two at most. No idea what it was or could have been. “Its not from here”, I’m still convinced. But because the next few days nothing was to be found in the press/media I decided to simply forget about it.

    • @shank2001
      @shank2001 3 ปีที่แล้ว +14

Sigh TH-cam mangled my comment. Even worse, the consensus before the Wright bros. was that heavier than air objects could never fly! Science consensus is wrong sooooo often, it is almost the norm throughout history. Even recent consensus in modern times being totally wrong! Linus Pauling saying there isn't such thing as quasi crystals, only quasi scientists, commenting on Dan Shechtman. Dan Shechtman was later awarded the Nobel prize for quasi crystals, not too long after Pauling's derisive comment. Pauling died before he could see how silly and closed minded he had been. Or how about germs, scientific consensus at the time was that germs were impossible. Or plate tectonics. Or meteor impacts with the earth, and on and on and on.
This is why I have lost respect for Neil deGrasse Tyson, and Seth Shostak from SETI, who both really should know better given the history of persecution of astronomers, but particularly SETI, whose VERY NAME is what we are talking about here, and Seth and other SETI scientists are some of the most closed minded of all scientists when it comes to UAPs. They pretty much are refusing to look through the telescope, like scientists did back in Galileo's time. It wasn't just the church that derided Galileo, other scientists did, too. People forget that. Shostak and Tyson probably would have been some of those scientists if they lived back then, in my opinion.
And this is coming from a former staunch skeptic on the UAP topic. I am not any longer, starting about 5 weeks ago. Not saying it is aliens. What I AM saying is that these officially released videos from the pentagon come from real events, with real objects, doing real maneuvers that we cannot explain. We need to stop the stigma, and figure out what legitmate UAPs are, who is behind the wheel, and how they work. Scientists should be clamoring to figure this out, like Avi Loeb is, volunteering for that opportunity! Even NASA is taking it seriously.
Not sticking their heads in the sand like Tyson and Shostak, who honestly should be ashamed at how closed minded they are. Being a skeptic does not mean ignoring data. Which is what Tyson and Shostak are doing. But they love to trumpet how they are "skeptical" to all who will listen, like it is some kind of badge. Forgetting what it actually means to be a scientist in the process, and what being a skeptic actually means, as well.

Sidney Gauthreaux at LSU was identifying birds with simple airport radar in the 1960s. If someone claims it's a bird, they need to hypothesize at least the family. Procellariidae? Hydrobatidae? Zetareticulae?

Look into Mick West's explanations of these videos. Trust me. If you really care about this, spend the time, and find and watch several of Mick West's videos where he thoroughly debunks the idea that those videos show anything incredible at all. It's almost all just simple optical camera artifacts/effects. Start with his videos explaining the most recent video that came out, where it's some triangles 'flying' up in the sky at night, with night-vision. He demonstrates that it's a simple bokeh effect very conclusively. Anyone involved in this military project to explain these things should be utterly ashamed because they did a piss-poor job. Optical camera byproducts should be one of the first things considered and it appears they had not one expert in the field. That type of effect is seen by photographers all the time. There's a filter in photoshop that emulates it FFS.

I always enjoy Avi Loeb interviews. He's one of the few true scientists out there. It always irritates me when I hear a so-called scientist shut things down because they don't think it's possible. He did do the research. He wrote a paper on it, and he was derided for it, long before the rest of science had come up with any plausible theory of it's own (if you can call what they did come up with plausible, which is a long stretch itself). And his paper is every bit as valid as any other paper out there, and in my opinion just as plausible. That is the point. No one has "proven" anything one way or another on Oumuamua. We will never know the actual truth, even Avi Loeb says this, because he is rational. He never claimed it was for certain extraterrestrial in origin in his paper, he said it was a possibility we should take seriously!!
Scientists would rather come up with an extremely convoluted theory that Oumuamua was part of a particular kind of planet and was dislodged in a huge impact towards our solar system, to explain why it looks so different from ANYTHING we have ever seen before in all astronomical history, but they still fail to explain with their consensus theory many aspects of Oumuamua. Yet scientists have decided that is their "consensus", and wont even have a discussion on any other possibility, anymore. Despite how Oumuamua was not moving relative to the frame of motion of the galaxy. It was the solar system that moved to Oumuamua, not Oumuamua moving towards the solar system. One would think that a giant impact origin would have given it some motion relative to the motion of it's orbit around the galaxy, no?!?! And many others holes in the "consensus" theory. It's all pointless as we will never know the truth of Oumuamua. But it is a perfect illustration for all the world to see of the bad attitude of scientists, and their closed mindedness on ANYTHING relating to extraterrestrials.
Your comment "These scientistsdon't dismiss things because they are impossible, they ask Loeb to do his work as a scientist an not omly come up with a hypothesis, but also investigate it, and prove or disprove it", directly applies to what the scientist's current "consensus" is, and they have not proven anything with any more certainty than Avi Loeb's paper did. They are both reasonable hypothesis, and both cannot be "proven" to be true. PERIOD. Get out of here with your holier than thou attitude that is so common among so many scientists.
I don't see many scientists trying to get to the bottom of UAPs. All I see from scientists is refusing to look at the data. And using Mick West's debunk videos as reasons to not do any actual research. Even though Mick West is not a scientist, has no credentials, and is not even a skeptic. He is a debunker, who has even AMITTED that he has an agenda and preconceived set in stone opinions. There is a big difference. And he never takes an event as a whole. He ignores anything he cannot explain. And scientists point to Mick West as some kind of final word.
Think about this. It is IMPOSSIBLE for anyone to debunk these official UAP videos without the government's help. Simply because they have all the data, classified and otherwise. All the public and Mick West has is a snippet of a video. We don't have the start, or the end of the videos. We don't have the radar data. We don't have anything, really. But the government does! Until all that data is released, we cannot debunk these events. PERIOD. No matter how much Mick West wishes he could, so that he could sleep better at night.
We have dozens of HIGHLY credible military witnesses for the tic tac event. And a snippet of a video. We should listen to these military personnel closely. Not just ignore what they say. That is not doing science.
There is a reason the government still calls these events actual UAPs TO THIS DAY, despite Mick West's efforts. Because the government has ALL the data. And there are more and more and more of these events to be released. There was even a major event a week ago, according to Luis Elizondo, but of course you wouldn't know that because your head is in the sand, and you are not following what is happening before our eyes in our own government on this topic. These events are happening all the time!
We have Obama, Bill Clinton, Ratcliffe, other former heads of the CIA and NID, dozens of senators, Chris Mellon, Luis Elizondo, Harry Reid, NASA, former astronauts, and on, and on, and on, more every day, saying that these events are real. That there really are objects invading highly restricted airspace, that we have no explanation for, and cannot understand how they maneuver. They are all saying this POINT BLANK! No room for interpretation here. And they all know more than anyone in the public!!! And NONE of them are stupid. We need to take that seriously. Mick West, the debunker with an agenda, and mainstream scientists, who have their heads in the sand, are NOT paying attention!! They discount all that. They discount anything they cannot explain.
We need to take what the government is saying seriously. We need to take our military personally seriously. They are the ones risking their lives flying around these UAPs, with near collisions, etc. Why does Mick West think he is helping the situation claiming these things are just radar reflecting balloons, or a duck, or a F18 from behind?!?!? It is utterly ridiculous.
Mick West has not debunked ANY of these videos. Because he can't. He does not have access to all the data.
The prudent thing for Mick West to say would be. "It is my opinion, as a hobbyist debunker in the UFO field, that this this object is a bird, or a balloon, and that is my opinion, despite all the witness testimony etc., but I could very likely be completely WRONG, because I do not have all the data. The government needs to release all the data before we can actually say anything conclusive.
Yet I never hear Mick West filing FOIA requests. I have not heard that Mick West has written his representatives asking for transparency on this topic. Why is that? Maybe because he is afraid he might uncover something that he cannot explain? Maybe because deep down he knows he is being misleading?
Why are people like Mick West, and other mainstream scientists not the loudest voices trying to get transparency on this topic, if what they really want is the truth?!
Why is like pulling teeth to get scientists to even CONSIDER that they cannot explain what we are seeing?!
All we get is silence from the majority of scientists.
      This is not acceptable!!!
We spend hundreds of millions every year looking for microbial signs of life, and exoplanets, and radio signals. What is so terrible about using some of that money to research what is happening right here on Earth in the form of UAPs, but do you hear any scientists saying this? Again silence.
Dark matter is extremely controversial, and all we really have is guesses about what it could be, yet we spend millions just thinking on that topic! Science has so many areas of study that don't even have a possible way to test, like string theory!! Millions spent on that as well. Or how about the serious scientific discussions on the holographic nature of the universe, or that reality is a simulation? Yet UAPs, nooooo no scientific study allowed!!!! Don't even offer that as a hypothesis, as in the case of Avi Loeb! Or Shun, Shun, Shun. Not even the consideration that UAPs MIGHT be evidence that we are not alone! Their ego and hubris are so huge and have so much mass that they have turned into black holes on the UAP topic! Rationality singularities! All hail Mick "I've already debunked that" West. It's all ridiculous, and true rationality, and logic has been thrown out the window! And it is not the UFO community I am talking about here. And I am a former staunch skeptic on the topic of UAPs. I changed my mind about 5 weeks ago.
Scientists need to get on the right side of history on this topic. The whole world is watching. And history will remember. Things are about to get bumpy for pseudo-skeptics like Neil deGrasse "It's NEVER Aliens"transparencytransparency from scientistsVolunteering

It wasn't long before WW2 that humans had means of capturing footage or photos of this phenomenon. Only a few decades prior to that did we even have the means to fly. For all we know these things have been buzzing around for all of human history and our ancestors had absolutely no way to see them, and if they did see them they had no way to document it other than writing it down (or telling someone who could write it down) or drawing pictures of it.
There are lots of historical accounts of people claiming to have seen something that looked like flying disks, or ships in the sky or folklore about meeting strange 'people' in crafts that go back thousands of years. All encounters were between seconds to maximum of ten minutes and always cautious and non-hostile.
One account was rather impressive which happened during the Vietnam War. This pilot was engaged in aerial combat with an enemy craft, he saw the enemy craft deploy its air-to-air missiles, he saw the missiles flight path and was about to engage in evasive maneuver when a bluish light stream made the missiles disappear. He was able to look above and get a glimpse of a flying craft that looked like a “teardrop” in shape and appearance (an opaque spheroid outer shell with a darker cube in the inside) that then, in a blink of an eye, shot straight up into the higher atmosphere.

@@ToxicBrainSludge you, my good sir are a more-onn if you think that mick west debunked anything. Don't forget the pentagon didn't release the triangle video. Jermey Corbell did, so that doesn't mean shit. There's no data-radar electro optical, Flir,pl array ect to accompany that film. So yes , its possibly an artifact. Not true with the 3 videos released by pentagon. Captured by multiple human eyes and multiple sensors. Don't be an idiot. The navy isn't inept, you are. I'm getting very tired of the media bringing on people like Neil Degrass Tyson, who really doesn't know anything about this topic, and then rolls his eyes and brings up proposals of "what it could be" that have already been completely debunked and ruled out, showing a complete lack of knowledge on the topic, and yet still wants to pontificate on it.
It's also completely insulting to our naval aviators, radar operators, and the military as a whole, as if they don't know what they're looking at, how their systems work, and aren't capable of ruling out basic mundane explanations.
Everything they bring up as a possibility, has already been thoroughly gone over and considered by military investigators.
I wish the media would do their damn job, and stop asking people about this topic that doesn't know what they're talking about.
I'm also tired of people treating this as if this is a brand new phenomenon, this has been heavily recorded for the past 80 years, and the pilots coming out today, are saying the exact same things that our pilots in World War II were testifying.
During World War II, the allies saw these craft and thought they were German, the Germans saw these crafts and thought they were the allies, and the same thing in the Pacific with the Japanese.
There is a wealth of information, data and facts on this topic, and yet it is a constant struggle to have a serious objective conversation, because so many people don't want to listen, or for some reason, people like Mick West have a ideological zealotry, to shoe horn any explanation to fit his personal bias, rather than actually going where the evidence leads.
I don't understand that either, the whole idea of being a "professional" debunker is nonsense.
Could you imagine if the police investigated crimes that way?
Coming up with a premise and hypothesis before seeing where the evidence leads, and then cherry picking anything they can to shoe horn evidence to fit they're preconceived Ideas?
This is not how you investigate something, and yet this topic is full of people that do junk pseudoscientific analysis or "debunking", which in reality, is nothing more than cherry picking what they want, while leaving the rest....

A fourth option was overlooked: That these objects are real, but people are misinterpreting their behaviour, e.g. thinking it's moving very fast, when it's basically stationary, because we've misjudged the size, distance & altitude of the small fuzzy object (typically against a uniform background like the sea). And that can easily happen, when you have FOR EXAMPLE a jet fighter moving at high speed (not necessarily in a straight line), with a camera turret that is smoothly rotating to track a floating but stationary object. Then parallax means the ground will appear to move underneath the object, and if you think the object far away (but it's actually much smaller & closer) then it will appear to be moving very fast.
