@@danw2112 2 out of 3 are out of State. Zero revenue for CA. Speaking of zero, SoCal was ground zero for every form of racing including the who's who of mechanical innovation. The reason drag strips opened up, not only in Socal, but across the Country was to get racers off the street. I'm not talking about the criminal take overs that the media keeps wrongly referring to as "street racers", but those that want safe legit places to "run whatcha brung".
Orange County International Raceway was a combined 1⁄4-mile US dragstrip and 2-mile road course, plus a motocross track, located in Irvine, California adjacent to the Interstate 5 (I-5) Santa Ana Freeway. Under a lease agreement with the Irvine Company, OCIR - as it was known in racing circles - was in operation from August 5, 1967, until its closure on October 30, 1983. The track was so named because its founders envisioned hosting sports car, motorcycle, midget, and stock car races in addition to National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) sanctioned drag racing events.
The thing is. When you close a race track, the racing in the area doesn't stop. It just goes to the street. And with what Irwindale had that other tracks in the area cannot do. You can guess how that will end...
It’s not part of the removal of automobile, fossil, fuel, consuming cars, and culture. You know it’s gotta be part of that. By 2035 you won’t even have any more gas powered cars unless they keep trying to restore them and maintain the remaining gas powered cars, but they might even entirely stop selling gasoline and every gas station will be turned into whateverdevelopment they’re gonna do at this one’s glorious raceway
I remember how strange it felt to take an elevator to the "spotters stand" up on the roof. Quite a difference from climbing up the ladder on an old semi-trailer at Mesa Marin. Irwindale even had someone in the elevator push the button for you, classy! Always good to see my long time friend Tim. Never forget the scrapbook you brought one day during F9. Thanks for the memories.
Because the land under it is worth a lot of money. It's the problem for a lot of small tracks today. It takes a lot of willpower and sheer love for the sport to ignore the massive bag of money that developers will give for that.
Me and my friends did the first one and done episode there with rich christensen and mavTV we were 1320alliance out of SGV very sad to know we will never have another moment at that track 💔😞
This just means that there is going to be more Street Racing and Street Takeovers happening, because of corporates mistake. It's like they now consider racing your car on and Drag Strip/Speedway a crime, those clowns are just bored with their own lives and have nothing else better do to. You can take away their Stock Cars and Speedways, but you will never take away their racing spirits. Somebody out there will decide to stand up and fight against those corporate sellouts for what they've done. Not just to Irwindale Speedway, but to all Drag Strips and Speedways that are across the country. Sometime in the near future, we will find a way to remind the public of why the Stock Car Racing community was so beloved by many people who loved NASCAR and enjoyed watching the racers leave their mark almost every weekend. Irwindale Speedway, you will be missed!
Our community needs this wonderful place far more than we need another faceless, soulless industrial park ❤
The people who ran the race track should have better business plan to buy the property
Everything in Crapfornia is going bye bye.
Like Riverside, Irwindale will fade into memory as part of the once great racing heritage of Southern California.
Travel to Las Vegas, Phoenix, or Sonoma for NASCAR racing or Las Vegas for Formula 1.

@@chrisredfield4017 For the time being there is an Indy Car race in Long Beach. I just wonder when the powers that be will shut down that Race.

Terrible situation, So Cal doesn't need anymore shopping and industrial.
Need more houses for banks to own 🤑🤑
This sucks! Spent many of Saturdays racing there. Going to miss it
RIP to The House of Drift
Moving from the track to the 605. About to get more dangerous.
Thank you Irwindale Speedway for racing event, filming TV "9-1-1", movie of "Herbie: Fully Loaded", "Fast 9" and TV commercial.
Out of all times when takeovers are at an all time high they decide to shut down the only racetrack in Southern California? Make it make sense…..

Nascar loves this track. It's so amazing and iconic. So why is it closing lol?!?

No, I've heard that the "perfect" speedway was the Reading PA fairgrounds speedway, I think it closed in 1978.
Was never at the new track, but had many a fun day at the old site where Miller beer is now.
Sunday, Irwindale, funny cars, Big John Mazmanian!

California sucks
Perhaps the city is thinking turning this racing into new homeless apartments.
Oh yay, bought by real estate group to build industrial business park. Great.
