Did you hear about those mercenaries from Colombia who were flying home? "Viva! We made it alive!" Forget about Ukrainian victories and just face the reality as so many young people in Ukraine have and decided to either leave the country or hide within the country.
Some people believe the propaganda that Ukraine has only lost 70,000 soldiers KIA but the real number is over 1.1 million soldiers KIA and the simple logic is that even looking at lowering the conscription age from 27 to 25 years there are only 120,000 men in that range so chances are that lowering the age to 18 will mean something like 200,000 soldiers but looking at the Ukrainian KIA numbers these possible conscription numbers will not help Ukraine achieve any so called victory plan.

Cut your losses! Don't throw your good money where the bad ones are. When the Austrian Emperor Franz Joseph I (yes, the same guy still in power when WW1 broke out 48 years later!) began the 7 weeks war with Prussia poorly. Instead of beating the dead horse, he accepted a quick peace. And then allied with the Prussians! Perfectly rationally, because now Prussia was the up-and-coming power to bet on (especially since their previous allied France didn't manage to make a move). No emotions involved. A war between leaders of governments, not at all between peoples. Rational wars are the least bloody ones.
A chess grand master who loses a piece without compensation doesn't keep on playing until the clock runs out. He accepts the obviously inevitable defeat immediately as the mistake is realized. To not do it is nothing but being officially stupid. Today's Western politicians, and of course all of their voters, lack ability to understand anything at all. They are incapable of foresight and acceptance of causality, their minds swimming in a made up fantasy of mad lies and denial of reality. Like Darius whipping the Sea to punish it for the storm that destroyed his bridge to Greece.
It's only because of the advent of Democracy that the wars of the 20th century have become "existential". That concept is a mentally ill bug in the heads of uneducated idiots. During the previous thousand years there was nothing "existential" with European wars. War is a gentleman's game that only peasants take seriously, because they confuse war with animosity, and alliance with friendship. But a state is not a human being, a state doesn't have any emotions. There's a huge conceptual difference between being the head of a state, and "being the state". As mentally sick as if a chess player believed that he "is" that wooden King piece on the board. Democracy necessarily ends with mass murder of everyone! Only the olden Monarchies with Princes competing with arms can guarantee true peace!

Some wars were exactly as you brilliantly describe. European States trying to mantain a balance of power in the continent. Anti Spanish coalition first, then alliance against France, then against Germany.
On the other hand, there were also existential wars, that because of a multiplicity of circunstances decided the fate of States and even peoples.
Hellenized Anatolia was destroyed by the Turks and disappeared for the rest of time.
The Eastern Roman Empire was fighting an existential war, while the Prussian-Austrian war was just a political war in which only hegemony in the German cultural territory was at stake.
I suspect that a very existential crisis, in the long run war, is brewing in Europe and the USA.

@@luismariagomezdearanda5319 I have to agree with this quote
"Today's Western politicians, and of course all of their voters, lack ability to understand anything at all. They are incapable of foresight and acceptance of causality, their minds swimming in a made up fantasy of mad lies and denial of reality."
Just look at the current European migrant and refugee crisis, they are all busy blaming refugees and migrant for coming to Europe instead of addressing the root cause of the crisis which basically emanates from endless Middle East wars in search of empire, the Libyan intervention in 2011 used jihadis to remove Gadaffi the Jihadis have now spread to Libya's neighbors like Chad, Niger, Mali and Burkina Faso creating thousands of refugees, the same thing happened in Syria, in Iraq they lie to create a false war then a power vacuum that leads to the creation of ISIS, in Iran they had a denuclearization treaty but violate the treaty and reimpose sanctions creating economic migrants, then Pakistan and Afghanistan. Come to think of it even 911 was done by the people who they trained and armed.
Instead of accepting reality and stopping the needless foreign wars and interventions they decide to pay billions to Albania and Turkiye to host migrants and refugees. The poor economic conditions in Europe caused by unnecessary sanctions on Russia all because of NATO expansion.

They simply don't have the demographics. Essentially, the Ukraine probably had an available population of not more than 35 million people in January 2022. Some ten million of these fled the country leaving around 25 million. We can estimate that there have been over 450,000 combat related casualties and another 1 million people in the military. Essentially leaving 23 million. Some 11 million males are, therefore available for the military. Over two thirds of these are either too old and sick or too young to fight. This leaves 3 to 4 million males of fighting age.... Unfortunately, this is the same demographic that makes the econonmy run. Therefore, the Ukraine probably has fewer than 2 million young men of fighting age available.
The Russian population is much larger with over 145 million people. This gives the Russians a pool of some 25 to 30 million young men of fighting age.
The Ukraine reported 800,000 live births in 2023. However, the Ukraine reported over 2.4 million deaths. The war is probably the major cause of death. The Ukraine, simply doesn't have the demographics to resolve this crisis militarily. The conflict is over ten years old and with no end in sight.
The United States and European Union should not "fight to the last Ukrainian."

The funny thing is that, judging by the statements of the Ukrainian military in May, the situation in the Kursk Region with new soldiers trained in the Baltic States was exactly the same as with the training of soldiers in Ukraine before the fall of Ugledar. There are actually two problems:
      1. NATO's experience in waging war against lightly armed mobile groups is absolutely unsuitable for a war in which the enemy has air defense and troops above the company level.
      2. Ukraine simply does not have 6 months to train troops. Ukrainians need to make up for the losses of the Armed Forces of Ukraine and for this they have to shorten the period between mobilization and sending to the front as much as possible.
      3. Even if Ukraine decides on total mobilization, who will catch the recruits? NATO troops will have to be introduced simply in order to catch these "guys from 18 to 25 years old."

In Ukraine, for example, for the last 30 years there have been very small pensions, if you live in your own apartment and pay utility bills, then the entire pension of most old people in the country will go away. In order not to starve, you either need to work until you die, or use the help of children.
Most of the salaries in the country are twice as large as pensions, and people almost do not pay taxes, and they give bribes to inspectors, that's how Ukraine lives.
    People earn money abroad.
How do you imagine mobilization in such conditions, where the people do not consider themselves beholden to the state in anything?
    - After reunification with Crimea, I found out that in Crimea, the people also tried not to pay taxes (out of old habit :) but it didn't work out anymore.
    - Explanations about the reluctance to mobilize young people are for foreigners (from NATO :), their people know that young people will not go anywhere anyway.

He thinks, the fight needs more units to avoid losing it, and he's right, it does. But the fight isn't an end goal in itself. The end goal is the long term future, which already looks quite grim, and throwing most your young men into the cauldron by force with 50%-70% losses in the first week of deployment means the country won't be much more than a mass caring facility for the disabled and traumatized and psychologically damaged

But what comes then after this last "volkssturm" mobilization while the arithmetics in this war have not and will not change(once and for all)?
Simple answer."The Downfall". But in this war , this could even mean nuclear disaster with all the possible consequences for europe and, to be subsequent- the whole planet. Sanity is lost in this 'project' since long, at least since the Istanbul negotiations- evidently prooven by enough reliable former and high level officials. The US- lead 'west'- tumbling in the mist of its own wishful-thinking narrative of hegemony, just as an old men who lost his senses. Sadly, western values and institutions will not benefit from that but deteriorate for its ambiguous role in the perspective of the rest of the world . Same applys sadly for middle east . My opinion of course...

My question is, were are all the people mobilized in first, second and third and even snatched mobilization in Ukraine? I can tell you that without at least one year of learning combat exercises there is no chance that you can got good one soldier to be ready to go in front. I sow it how guys behave without good military knowledge. The most important thing is morals of defining your homeland or not.If government is corrupt it is biggest impact on soldiers and that is end of success any happened war.
Ukraine people are demoralised because this war shouldn't happened .They live with Russian for 1000 years and there is no any cultural difference between them. Russian and Ukraine are same people ,brothers and sisters .Inviting Ukraine 2008 to join NATO is biggest mistake or porpoises to destroyed them as a nation. We know what happened 2014 and who did it. Now is to late to save Ukraine. Minsk 1 an 2 plus Istanbul April 2022 were options to stop it on time. Who sabotage all of agreements is NATO by pushing poor Ukraine people in war with Russia.

OK, I’m gonna finally say everything that should’ve been said a long time ago . I’m a former military officer from the United States. I’ll talk about the United States first. We’ve been fighting wars since 1991 against guys that were not peer opponents. And we got our ass kicked. In the long run, we got our ass kicked. The United States can’t win a war against the peer or even a near peer opponent.
That said let’s talk about America’s allies . We do not have an allied nation that is capable of fighting and defending themselves properly. The Australian military is a joke. The French military, with exception of the foreign legion is a joke. The British army as a joke the German army is a joke. None of you have pulled your weight and you can’t do crap.
Let’s talk about the British. They can’t even field an aircraft carrier at sea. The French have to use American aircraft carriers to get their pilot catapult experience. Not one NATO ally is worth a crap.

So shut the hell up about using American resources to fight a baloney war .
America doesn’t want to have any foreign allies anymore because you take and don’t give . You’re a succubus.
How about supporting Ukraine as an Australian nation without our help? Why do you always ask for our help? B why do you ask for money from us essentially? Tell us why you’re worth it. You’re not.
