    My advice to Americans is just to go there. It almost doesn't matter where. It has everything you want - history, architecture, beaches, entertainment, food and drink, mountains, rivers, music, etc. It is my favorite country to visit and if you told me I could only go to one for the rest of my life, I would pick Italy. I have been to it three times, about 5 weeks total. My girlfriend and I were set to go when you know what stopped us. We were intending to stay mostly in Puglia, where we have not been before. Maybe next year.

      Io sono italiano, e continua a stupirmi quanta “passione” scatena il mio Paese negli stranieri.

    We spent a year working in Monza. What a wonderful community, and the city park was beautiful. We also spent a lot time in Citta Alta above Bergamo, on the lake shore around Lecco, and in Sardinia.
    In addition to the bed and breakfast mentioned in the video, Italy has a large "agriturismi" community. These may be working farms with tourist accomodations, and true farm-to-table dining. It was perfect when traveling with a small child
    I think September is the best time to visit. Tourists are gone, the sea is still warm, and lodging is inexpensive.

    My advice would be to not worry so much about seeing the big museums (unless art is really your thing) and just wander. I went to Florence recently and my favourite and most memorable activity was walking up to the Piazzale Michelangelo, which was free and gave me the best views of the city. There are so many beautiful churches that are free to enter, and you soak up so much of the atmosphere just walking around the streets, stumbling across cute little corners and shops and views, hearing Italians chat and finding nice cafes or restaurants. But if you really do want to visit museums or other attractions, often they have cheaper times or days, so look online for tips.

    • @RobertDunn310
      @RobertDunn310 2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Agreed. I went to the museums in Florence, but didn't really enjoy it that much, honestly. I much preferred exploring the city by foot and trying out the food.

    For those who come to Sardinia in the middle of summer, I recommend you avoid the crowded and visit in particular the areas of the center of the island (just like they said the two Sardinian guys) and get your ticket a little early so you can save money for the boat or the plane 😁

    As Roman....do not eat in places near tourist 'attractions' (nice view - prices triple - quality halved). Don't buy water (take a bottle and fill it at one of the hundreds of fountains scattered around the city). The best time to visit Rome? Here it depends on your temperament. If you don't mind the scorching heat then August will do, but for my taste May and September are probably the best weather-wise.

  • @einposter
    @einposter 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I agree with most interviewed locals - it is way better to visit smaller villages and less crowded places as you are forced to speak Italian with the locals. This is the rela way to discover the true beauty and chamr of the country. Nothing is better than some delicous local food and/or an Espresso in the local bar with a splendid view!
    One more important advice - start all your tours (very) early, as every place (and that really means everything - churches, museums, shops etc) is closed over noon (12-16). Just enjoy the day like an Italian - have a cool-down siesta then and don't worry that everything is closed: you are in Italy ;)

    A volte pure gli italiani si fanno intortare! Sono stata a Venezia e sono italiana, ma non essendo del luogo capita di finire in ristoranti turistici che ti svuotano il portafoglio. Tuttavia quando ci sono andata con una veneziana lei mi ha portato in una trattoria dove si mangiava BENISSIMO sotto i 10/15€. Quindi sicuramente il consiglio di Mary di guardarsi le recensioni di internet è estremamente valido se non si conoscono persone del luogo

    Listen to the Italiani. My rule for food is never eat close to the tourist centers and if a restaurant has a big sign that says, "we accept visa and master card",and a menu in English, go a few blocks perpendicular to the street you are on and eat in a restaurant with the locals in a place that has no English menu. The food is much better and certainly cheaper. As the Italiani in the video said, ask the local people where to find a non-turisti restaurant where the locals eat, the food is typical of the region. You can't go wrong. And learn a little lingua Italiana before you go.

      Sicily is a great place . I’m from Greece and we use to say that Sicily is the sister of Crete . Both big islands of the Mediterranean . Though Sicily is more organised in terms of cities . Sicily has better cities . But Crete is more rustic , more relaxed , has much more pure villages and ,in my sense, better climate . Viva l’Italia e viva la Grecia

    Il costo di un hotel a Milano o Venezia è incredibile. Se vai in quelle città, ti consiglio di prendere un hotel in una città vicina più economica. Ad esempio stare a Pavia invece che a Milano. Soggiorna a Padova invece che a Venezia. Prendi il treno per la città costosa. Anche con il costo aggiuntivo del treno risparmierai un'enorme quantità di denaro.

    Consiglio: informatevi bene sui piatti tipici del luogo dove vi trovate in italia esempio non ordinare la carbonara a Milano a meno che non andate in un ristorante dichiaratamente romano (ce ne sono) perchè molto probabilmente non sarà buonissima.
    In ogni caso non ha senso per un turista meglio mangiare le cose tipiche del luogo, se invece uno vive a Milano e ha voglia di carbonara ha senso, avrebbe senso anche andare in un ristorante etnico per sperimentare qualcosa di nuovo.
    Ci sono ristoranti anche dello Sri Lanka.
    Insomma la carbonara mangiatela a Roma che è meglio.

    How about purely practical tips? Exchanging money? Or can I just use my American credit card? How to travel... bus? train? What are those logistics? Should I rent a car or no? Don't I need some kind of adapter for electric outlets (phone charger, electric razor, etc.)? And I know "un po' Italiano," so at what point is this a problem? Will enough of the Italians know enough English to save me if needed? :) Or is there a translator app that you recommend over the others? I imagine this becomes more of an issue the farther away from big city centers you get.
