Japanese fountain pens are some of if not the best writing instruments money can buy. I believe this is due to the fact that they manufacture their own nibs and their quality assurance and attention to detail are beyond what many companies are willing or capable of today when it comes to nib production. @@korax67 Oh how right you are. The Custom 74 is rather amazing. This is my first Japanese pen and my first gold nib and I must say that it offers an incredible writing experience. EDIT: I am also very pleased with the line width of the medium nib. It also seems to be a rather wet writer. Which I like. I am currently using the black Pilot cartridge that came with the pen.
