    Thanks for getting me into the hobby.

    One of my favorite series you have done along with the mangrove tank. I love how you keep it real about the hair algae and aptasia. I vote for the chaos.

    I think the GSP is the most striking feature in that awesome little tank.
    The green line from the base to the apex was a fantastic aesthetic choice.
    I don't know how you kept it so well contained though, but it is striking.

    A DC controllable Jebao DCS2000 will fit in the rear chamber if you cut off the inlet nozzle with a hacksaw. Attach a RFG nozzle on the outlet in the tank and you have a fantastic controllable flow - I ran this setup on my Nano Max and highly recommend.

    One thing should mentioned, Jake doesn’t use RO water, and only uses carbon block filtering. Which is where some of his alkalinity, calcium, and magnesium could be coming from.

    • @ReefBuildersVideo
      @ReefBuildersVideo  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      for sure SOME of the mineral replenishment is from top off water but I don't think 2-3 liters a month could reconstitute it that much.

    Looks fantastic thanks for the update and answering some of my questions earlier in the week, my rs max nano is up and running now i have placed the corals and i going to get my clowns soon, as i still edgy about putting them in so fast. But your videos which i have watched a thousand times are great. Just needed to be a little more clarifying hence the messages. Everything on day 5 seems good ph is 8 ammonia up to 0.25ppm nitrite is 0 and nitrate is 10ppm. Corals all happy have got lighting at 50% at moment, and some go in at night some stay out. Hope i have a good turn out like you have.

    You’ve inspired me to get this as my new hoppy. Novice diver and love the environment! Live in Nanaimo BC 🇨🇦 and will be visiting some shops around here to get started. Thx for your videos! If you ever wanna come here for diving let me know and I can hook you up. Some of the best diving in the world, it’s said. Lol
    Did you put the crabs in you said you were going too? And what “grazer” would you use for the algae?

  • @DuMCuMPsTeR42069
    @DuMCuMPsTeR42069 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    Jebao DCS-2000 will need a little touch of DIY like a shim so it doesn’t suck itself to the glass, but give that a shot! Programmable, and paired with a good return head would still eliminate a power head!

    How did the corals have enough nutrients if there was no dosing or water changes? I'm new to the hobby, so correct me if I'm wrong, but wouldn't alk, ca, and mag drop to lower than ideal levels over the course of a year? Beautiful tank btw

      You dose the tank with the key elements in the salt everytime you do water changes.

    • @supremecamels7736
      @supremecamels7736 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi Zach, to answer your question if I understand correctly... Yes, Corals use up Alk, Cal, and Mag and in most reef tanks you will need to replenish these often, be it in water changes or. with dosing. The reason Jake has gotten away with doing no water changes (and therefore not replenishing the elements) Is because of his choice of corals. Most of the corals he has selected use little to no Alk,Cal,Mag and therefore his parameters won't have dropped much. The biggest consumer of those elements in this tank is probably the purple coralline algae, which there doesn't seem to be a lot of either. If Jake had chosen more demanding corals that use the elements to build their coral skeleton and therefore grow, he wouldn't have gotten this far without having done a water change.

    • @josephposada1830
      @josephposada1830 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      He tells a good story LoL 🤣 If you have a glass box, fill it with water, add critters etc. You will have algae, you will have so-called unwanted critters etc. Nutrient swings will occur. Alk will swing up and down etc. The Kenya tree will release toxins in the water. The list goes on.

    • @justheretoinspireyou5803
      @justheretoinspireyou5803 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Small tank you don’t have to dose it just do your water changes

  • @DrBlazer50

    I'd add some bright orange ricordea Yuma & Florida, some red/orange zoas/palys, and something as easy as a red war coral/favites to add some colors. The red goni sounds great, but I had a small ORA red goni frag grow very fast and would've been too big for that setup in less than a year (it went from the ORA frag size to a softball - while closed - to just smaller then a volleyball fully open in less than 2 years).
