  • A quick overview of a 1986 Peugeot 305 GTX that I have recently purchased
Yes I don’t need another 305, I have the S5 that I am restoring and the automatic which is due the same after the S5 but for any 305 nut a GTX is the one to have with its comprehensive list of equipment (by 1986 standards) goodies like electric windows, central locking, power steering and a locking fuel filler cap are fitted to this version, it also gets nice alloy wheels unique to the GTX, a vinyl decal up the sides and nice velour seats. And a professionally fitted britax sunroof with sunshade cover, a nice improvement over the slightly dodgey sunroof fitted to the s5 which came from an alfa romeo.
This car is in reasonably good condition, I bought it off motorhog, my cousin has an account with them and did the bidding on my behalf, in the end the car made £310 in the auction, and the fees were another £70 for commission and loading it onto a lorry, delivery to get It from Southampton to northern Ireland was £330.
There is around 138,000 miles on the car, I have no idea how genuine the mileage is but it doesn’t seem to indicate any excessive wear on the inside and the service history was very comprehensive up to 1999 when it had done 109,000 miles, since that time I assume it has done significantly fewer miles and was garaged mostly.
Inside the car it stinks of damp dog, the previous owner seemed to have had dogs in the boot as there are quite a lot of dog hairs, I have since started to hoover out the car and the hairs have all gone but everything needs a good steam cleaning.
The bodywork seems in good condition for the cars age, all my 305s have rust its almost inevitable that all Right hand drive models will have some rust now they are getting to be about 30 years old, there is the usual tailgate rust although no leaks yet, but the main areas where the rust was very bad on the s5 is solid here, the front valence, the scuttle, the rear quarter panels and wheelarches are all solid and the sills have no rust or patches at all, I keep all my 305s indoors and dont take them out in the rain or salted roads which helps preserve them.
Mechanically the engine starts and drives, there is smoke from the exhaust it could be worn valve stem seals or piston rings which is no big worry at this age a rebuild of the engine would be justified, and as its basically the same engine as the 205 gti I hope parts should be easy to get, a fuel injection conversion would be a nice thing to do to this engine, although the carb seems to be running ok fuel injection would take away some of its tempermental nature.
I have no immediate plans for this car just yet, I will try and sort out the bits of rust and tidy it up once im done restoring the S5, I might try and put it through the MOT to have something for the summer as it is in good enough condition to drive about on the road although the brakes will need to be serviced and a few other niggly issues resolved.

I have the sedan version for 10yrs. This small car is power packed. Don't neglect the timing belt. I learned a bitter lesson.

That 305 is good looking, never been a frenchiefan ( if that's even a word ) i love one of those in my garage.
I'm more of a old japfan though.

AstroBastard Haha frenchiefan ive never heard of it before. I like most old boxy 70's and 80's cars the nissan bluebird being another favourite. Ive always liked the look of the 305, the GTX had a bit of extra stuff like the alloys which looked good, i have also added a set of front fog lights mounted below the front bumper for even more 1980s.

that sounds awesome, did similar stuff to my old volvo. it was a station wagon so of course i had to get a set of early eighties ski racks for the roof. it was awesome fun that car.

AstroBastard Old volvos are good fun especially the turbo or v6 ones, they dont really look terribly fast but go like stink and the rwd ones can be good fun, of course the ordinary models were not particularly fast but they do have a certain character. What model was it?

Do you know where to find peugeot 305 body panels online? In malta i cant find any parts for the body for my 305 1.9 diesel

305 panels this takes time to find them.
      Places to try:
Peugeot parts specialists, ring up dean hunter and he may have them in stock
Leboncoin.fr, french classifed adverts you may just sit and trawl through peugeot 305 listings, i used it to find the correct terms used in french for various panles
      Ebay france
Serie04 a website for peugeot parts, i got sills and a front lower valence from it.
There is also a peugeot 305 facebook page which might be worth joining.

Ah very good, i was wondering did peugeot have a factory in Kenya building 504 or 505s?
Im guessing if your trying to buy a 305 from here that there might not be too many in kenya?
