The best glitch of 90s video gaming. All the starters had cool personalities and awesome stats. Now you could make a fundamentally sound team and really wallop the early content.
Back in the day I used to just set aside a couple hours to pick a pokemon, get to the point where I could trade, trade the starter to a second game, restart the first game and repeat 2 more times, then do the same thing several more times so both versions could have all 3 starters.
I did this on GBA SP with an original red cartridge. It takes incredibly precise timing, the frame after the "yes, no" box disappears. Took me several hours across multiple days of trying, but it did work once you get the timing down.
I feel like people dont describe this process well but you got the main points. Start a new game. Get a pocket monster. Save and reset. Start a new game save and reset as soon as you see second y/n box fall. Then do continue. Repeat the process til you have all three starters. I can only get to two without a save file error in betweeen but i am feeling like 3 is attainable on gameboy color if i eanna start over in a few days. 💪
You can also use this method to move up to 5 of ANY Pokémon to a new file. Mewtwo, the fossil mons, hard to catch Chanseys, etc. and they'll all be considered outsiders with bonus XP

If you are playing on DMG do you have to do the a b start select method or can you simply power off? I did the latter and it didn't work. Maybe my timing was just off but i'd love to know for sure.

Something similar works for Crystal Version as well. Also didn't realize crystal was worth 120 bucks or any of the pokemon games for that matter. Idk where I would sell Yellow, Silver and Crystal though

Might try this at some point but because i still have my Pokemon Stadium games and transfer paks, i do a process using my Mega Memory Card i got probably over 20 years ago to save each starter then transfer them to storage in Stadium and withdraw them on my last file load for the same ending.
If you're attempting this glitch to get a complete Pokédex then you're wasting your time, because this doesn't add Pokédex entries for the two additional starter Pokémon (assuming you can even get this glitch to work). If you're using an emulator then you're better off trading the other two starters to yourself as soon as possible.
Could you say do this except instead of restarting when you get the second starter, you beat the game and catch mewtwo and reset there so you could have a mewtwo when you start the game?

if you do this the only downside (besides quick trigger finger and luck) is the trainer id reset, it is as if they were traded to you.

if you manage to transfer them to home there should be no problem at all. even any pokemon using the mew glitch can be tranfer... but mew cant
