I love all your "little" but great ideas! They make the difference between a nice project and a perfect project. Keep up the great information! I just found this channel and subscribed.
Exactly what I’ve been looking for. Thanks for the great video. I’m building a military retirement shadow box this weekend and have been stumped on best way to approach the order of assembly.
Nate, I'm doing the EXACT same thing! I want to put all my old Air Force things in a Shadow box but wasn't sure if I would go through the trouble of making the box. I don't have a nice shop with all those nice wood tools..hehehe.
@@TheStoneWhispererMuch respect for your service. I’m making a new shadow b 0:56 ox for my dad’s Korean War (Army) medals and patches. He would have loved that his daughter made a frame. He taught me to self, but not woodworking. Lack of tools and space. On a funny note, I cut out and sewed home a full-size
Thanks so much for this video. My wife needs a shadow box for some artwork, and I wasn't real sure about some of the details of cutting the miters. I particularly liked seeing you use the strap as a clamp. Cheers!
that's alot of work for the face to hold the glass in. just curious have you just cut a piece that you need to hold the glass to be glued to the face. for example. 3/4 sides with a face of 1 1/2 by 1/4 inch thick glued on .
Dude, you're really good! You make this all look so easy! Nice shop! I have never had the space to enjoy my wood hobby, it's unfortunate. Very nice job!
Michael - the shadow box is gorgeous!! Few questions for you: 1. What are the dimensions of the lip for the plexy? 2. What size wood did you use for the to hold the plexy in? 3. did you use double sided tape so you can take everything apart if needed? I want to mount a NFL jersey in something similar and really like this approach! thanks
I'm so happy that I found your take on making a deep shadow box!! Your art and your wood working are both lovely and enjoyable. I need to make some display boxes for some of the pieces my daughter has made and some in collaboration with another artist. It will be fun to get them done when the universe aligns with a new saw installation, wood selection and acquisition, and when temps subside long enough for me to be in the shop or the air conditioner is installed, whichever of the last 2 comes first. Haha
I am curious about the corners, why do you use "wedges" instead of biscuits? Is it stronger? I am looking to make a shadow box for a fallen brother (US NAVY, USS FORRESTAL survivor). TY
Awesome work! Does your shadow box ever have issues with moisture? Thinking about making some for some carded action figures I just don’t want any issues with the card stock.
So I do not have a table saw. But I would like to make a shadow box with a glass or plastic front like the one you designed. Is there any other way the inside pieces could be cut for the front glass to slide into without using a techie saw?
I have made them where you glue the front on, so the front of the frame is a wider, separate piece which basically forms a rabbet. Does that make sense?
Really nice work! There is a very big difference between the sound level on your speech and your music. This is a problem on all you videos (and on most other youtube channels as well) It would make for a more serene experience if you could fix it. But again: impressive work :-)
Thanks for the feedback. I can’t fix this one, but I have made adjustments to how I record audio, and process videos. My latest videos should be significantly better. Thanks!
Love the almost translucent pearliness of the finished maple frame, especially those corner splines.
I have no intention of building this but watching this has been almost therapeutic. Your workmanship is on a different level. Amazing! 👌
Stunning and a very enjoyable watch ❤ thank you
It's nice to see someone else with a combination of Art and Carpentry skills.
Wow! That is beautiful...both the shadow box and the owl wings. Amazing!
Michael,
Your workmanship & exacting explanation in plain English is epic!
thank you Mike, a friend just asked me to make a pair of these for them so I'm looking for some new ideas. Very helpful and nicely done.

Fantastic! Glad to hear it. Good luck with your project

Is there an easier way? You know, for non-carpenters?
Same... what if we don´t have a full-equipment garage with lots of tools? XD
awesome work. wish i had all the woodworking tools u own. you are an artist at it all not just the frame but the stunning owl wings.
Was googling shadow boxes and came across this. Those wings are STUNNING! And the box is gorgeous! So much work you put in to that!!! Great job!
Simply gorgeous carpentry-Brilliant

Gorgeous wings, clicked on the video to figure out how to build myself a shadow box frame.
This is AMAZING! Just got my first saw and dream of getting to this level. Thanks for the inspiration!
Is there a list of materials for this written so I can make sure I have all the right pieces?
such a nice combination of frame and artpiece! love it!
OMG the flipping made me laugh. I have always cut all awkward and never flipped. I love you for this
Nice work Michael. Thank you for the tips.
Hi Mike, Love the channel ! Question, on strainers. Kreg jig and pocket holes for 1/2" and 3/4" strainers? Your thoughts. Cheers from SoCal
Cool technique of creating that lip using the dado stack. It looks great, Michael!
Thanks Bruce!
Beautiful!
Excellent Work

I have the same questions.
You made a box for your shims. Chicken or the egg there... seems made to fit them perfectly.
Thanks brother 💯 beautiful
Exquisite!!!!!!
Very thoroughly done mate
Use #374 for a toothbrush! Great overall build!! 👊🏻
Super handy! Thanks Jon! 👊🏻

Is that a hard medium or soft bristle you're using on that toothbrush.
That dado stack removed a heck of lot of meat. Just to get a lip?
What types of wood are most suitable for frames ??? Good work ... Congrats
Pretty much any hardwood. My go to woods are walnut, maple, oak, and ash, but you can use whatever you may have in your area.
Beautiful work!!!
Very creative approach. Thanks
Great. Why you wouldn't add some led strip inside ?
Nice job
Very nice, like the tip for the 4th side---
So freaking cool bro 👍
Stunning ❤️
Amazing work! Very inspiring.
Very cool 👍🏽
Thanks for sharing, you really helped me out
amazing work man, keep it up!
Thanks!
Nice showing

I think I'm in love with you.
What was the white material that you glued to the back?
WOW!! that is beautiful. I should have taken up Woodwork instead of Home Ec. in school. :(
Wauw! Verry nice. Did it took you long to make this? Thanks
Thanks! Not too long, about a day.
I am egyption
And l want to know how much does it cost if l do such one
And consideration for your skills
Fantastic work Michael :) ॐ
I didn't catch where I can purchase the glass?
wooow, amazing
@ 4:10, what are the metal corner pieces called? I searched all kinds of 'corner clamp/angle/clip' on Amazon but not luck.
They usually come with the band clamp. Try "Pony Style Band Clamp".
Just curious how much the glass cost?
What is the white material you’re spray adhesive glueing to the wood?
It's matte board. Basically Heavy weight archival paper
Drilling through the backing piece would've stressed me out because there's a solid 98% chance I would have drilled through the front somehow! Hahaha
It definitely made me nervous! I'm always worried I'll use a screw that's a little too long
Parabéns
Belo trabalho
Obrigado!
What I have here is a 1 by 5, which means its 3/4 by 4.5 inches. Ahh north america, where we measure with our thumbs and feet for extra precision.
What type of paper did you adhere to the wood
Really nice work!

Matt board

I subscribe Your channel for nice
Videos
Great. But no direction on what he used, size etc
dang its harder than it looks
Now I gotta figure out how to make a spline jig shaped like a B....
Hahahahahah!
who is ched?
You must be a travelling man....
I would love to know what you’re listening to in those headphones!
Walnut splines......damnit, you should have used walnut splines.
Big Mike is talking I disagree. The wings are the piece you want to draw your eyes too, you want the frame to disappear into the background.
Most people don't have fancy equipment like yours.
