  • Franz von Holzhausen has been Tesla's chief designer since 2008. CNBC got a rare interview with him at the Peterson Automotive Museum in Los Angeles, which recently opened a new Tesla exhibit. He was a lead designer on the Tesla Model S, Model 3, Model X and Model Y as well as the Cybertruck, Tesla Semi truck and the second generation Roadster. Prior to Tesla, he worked in design at Mazda, General Motors, and Volkswagen. He speaks to CNBC about what it is like to have Elon Musk as a boss, what happened with the glass shattering windows at the Cybertruck unveil, and what is next for auto design.

    This is another thing about tesla - their product presentations are not done by pre recorded adverts produced by an advertising agency making a video - instead you get the actual designers and engineers like Franz up on stage with the CEO doing product releases with live audiences and answering questions etc. It seems very open and honest it's a good way to do things and gives recognition and credit to the engineers and other people making the products.

    • @justingolden21
      @justingolden21 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It's hard to not make quality content when you're CNBC in a non political space and here's why: 1) They have enough influence so they can interview anyone, just ask and you'll get an interview with the top guys at Tesla, unlike smaller outlets. 2) They have enough money for good equipment such as cameras, mics, video editors, etc. to put together a high production value video, and 3) They have enough money to do market research and figure out what people actually wanna hear. So your end result is something people want to se that not only gets made, but gets made well. When there's any hint of politics though, all journalistic integrity goes out the window and CNBC becomes about as bad if not worse than CNN or Fox.

      Here is why:
      Tesla can build a car for about half what it costs the OEMs to do it. They also can build them at least 3 times faster than VW who was known up till then as the fastest car builder in the world.
      Tesla has locked in supply contracts for years with battery suppliers, mines, etc. They do not have nearly the supply chain issues others have and will continue to have into the latter part of this decade….. by then it will all be nearly over.
      EVs are run on software and Tesla is the front runner on this too.
      Finally Tesla does not have to deal with unions nor dealers (who mark up the price of the cars making them not as competitive).
      I think this is Tesla’s game to lose. BYD may give them a run for their money but I think the OEMs, if they survive, will be mere shadows of their former status.
