Screaming Cat Series 1 Professional - Is this brand the GOAT?

  • Here is my review of a Screaming Cat Series 1 Professional supplied by bills_cricket_bats (Instagram) in December.
    Unfortunately, I fell ill in late February and ended up in the hospital and again in April . I still have no diagnosis, but a diet I started on 4 January plus the illness meant I dropped 30kg by mid-April. Still getting tests, but I have put on 4 kg since then and am slowly improving. My legs and shoulders are impacted and currently, I cannot sit for more than 30 mins, so content releases will be slow.
    I did not record 4K as that process takes too long to edit and 1080p looks good enough considering the views.

    I do this as a hobby and do not make any money or get paid to create the videos. So owners of the bats cover the return freight costs of bats sent in and I do not always accept a bat for various reasons and do not run a bat-knocking service as the time it takes to create content is considerable.
    All videos are owned by CricketBatInfo. All views are mine and are based on a one-off experience from the individual bat reviewed, not a whole range or brand.

    I think Keeley based the New berry Mjolnir on this shape and handle. I picked up a Blank Bats test sample which I really enjoyed but it was probably scalloped a bit more than the Screaming Cat Pro shape.

      Thanks Alex. Lost a lot of weight via diet, then illness. Back on the diet now after putting back a little after release. Appetite is normal. Cut the booze out almost completely since Christmas too.

    I’m not sure what the “A” stands for but my dad has a Screaming Cat which he had custom made for his batting style and preferences, on the other side where it says “AJ” (I think that’s what this one had) it has my dads Initials “BP” so I could only assume it would be the initials of the original owner who this bat was made for :))

    Do you know any other off the shelf models that have a similar profile. I saw the lads at laver are doing a bat for Gilchrist's foundation that seems to be based on this profile.

    As an aside, I have a Charlie French 'Advance' (which I love), bought 16 years ago. I noticed his website has gone. Have you heard anything on the grapevine about him and if he has retired or something? All the best to you and yours mate.

    I used a bat called a St Peterbat. Bestbat I ever used. This was an English willow bat, but never got one of my own. Can you she some light on this bat and who made it? The I.D. marks were light blue and black.
    Next was an SS jumbo, similar style bat.

    Hello mark! I really like your videos and you deserve a lot more subscribers. Also which cricket bat would you recommend in the 300 pound price bracket. Also would you recommend bats made in Pakistan. The bat can be of any company and I really look forward to hearing from you.

    • @CricketBatInfo
      @CricketBatInfo  ปีที่แล้ว

      £300 should buy something decent from most brands if you’re exceptions are measured. Balance and performance over looks. Take that money to a smaller bat maker, assuming your in England and you’re going to be able to have it make to meet your needs.
      I cannot push any specific brand or model. We are all different

    • @mgplayz3752
      @mgplayz3752 ปีที่แล้ว

      Would you recommend any bat makers in England.

  • @richwatson5665
    @richwatson5665 ปีที่แล้ว

    Now this is very much a Legendary bat maker and very much one of the very best if not the best, that’s a debate which will burn forever and yet it won’t be actually proven no matter how you go about it. Let’s instead appreciate the work of a genius and a master craftsman and one of the very best there ever was in this industry and whom so many look to replicate and draw inspiration.
    The big question long term is will these world class renown bat makers & pod shavers continue where they can compete against the modern day mass manufacturing plants across the world who simply don’t have the same overheads as the likes of say Julian, Andrew, Tim & James have I guess possibly not too long.

      Hey there. Yep I was sick from 27/3 and the in March i went into hospital for 18 days and then again for another 4 days in April. Recovering now and my legs are so weak I’m doing lots of Physio. Got sicker in Hospital and had a couple of medication issues. No idea what caused it but i was very sick and my wife was worried. Still getting tested for illnesses and nothing found. Knee and shoulder joints sore as the immune system was causing my joints to swell.
      Thanks for asking. Be back making videos soon. Lost my cameras charger and waiting on a replacement.

      I spoke to Julian Millichamp on the phone back in 2015. He told me that he no longer makes bats and that he had sold all of his stock and had nothing left. I really wanted another one of his bats so I was quite disappointed that he had gone out of business. He suggested that I get one custom made from either one of his two apprentices that still make bats. James Laver or Paul Bradbury. I opted to go with James Laver and he made me a bat very similar in profile to the Screaming Cat series 1 Professional with a bit more shaved out of the bat to reduce weight. I love the bat and it performs very well.
      I was still very determined to get my hands on some second hand Screaming Cats so was constantly checking out Ebay and Gumtree until I came across a guy selling a bunch of Screaming Cats he had used as a junior (most of them Harrow's) all of them are the professional grade. Then I came across a guy selling a brand new (never used) Professional Series 1 Screaming Cat. I ended up buying it straight away. He told me he worked at Fox Sports and the bat was given to Fox Sports as part of an interview that Melinda Farrel did with Master bat maker and podshaver Julian Millichamp. You can find the video of that interview here:
      th-cam.com/video/bTdQv8fCkSc/w-d-xo.html
      In the video at the end of the interview the Host in "Inside Cricket' Brendon Julian picks the bat up and then hands it to Allan Border my childhood idol and he and Mark Waugh discuss the bat and talk about the weight and grains. The bat came in a box with Fox Sport stickers on it. I wonder what it is worth now days??

    Why use the bat and then retire it, a bat with grains like that should be used. What is the benefit of it sitting around with mud on it, use the weapon man. Great vid
