In the original novel, Dracula wanted to go to England because there was plenty of food there. Transylvania's superstitious locals had long ago identified him and his brides for what they were and were already taking precautions so feeding opportunities were scarce.
This isn't explicitly STATED in the novel, mind you, it's just an inference I'm making based on the events described.
I like how they portray Dracula and vampires in this movie. Cause there’s no Van Helsing to explain it to them, they refer to him as a devil and don’t know what sign or weaknesses to look for that we take for granted.
Also, Dracula needs the dirt cause he can only sleep on the soil of his home country. And he actually can walk around in daylight, he’s just weaker
