    Well, this is a first for me. My wife wants these so I guess I ll soon be planting them. She bought 8 so far just like in your video. We ve been reading up on the soil needs. I need to know how deep and ideal spacing should be - against our back yard fence .Aside from that ..... we ll be doing the project in a couple days. Thanks.

    I have a few of these …In south Texas ….they can get massive, you don’t need to trim to get tons of beautiful blooms all spring, summer and fall. They look best left to do their thing.

      Right now they are not in bloom! It has been very rainy here in Florida and they don’t like to bloom when they have too much water!! They should begin blooming hopefully next month as we begin to enter fall!! :) you can tell your bougainvillea are not fans of the weather if the entire neighborhood and surrounding neighborhoods bushes are not blooming as well :) they will be happier when it stops raining so much! I will do an update in fall!

    I heard when planting these, you should leave them in the original pot and cut the pot so the root can grow out but not too distress the root by taking them out. Anyone know this is true or not ?

    In Ontario we have to bring them in for winter. I haven't put them out yet for spring and I haven't had any blooms this winter and they look straggly. On a grow light indoors. I think I was watering to much as mushrooms grew in soil so I now water lightly once a week. out doors last year I lost all my blooms thinking over watered as the get full sun. I did prune twice over winter. Do you think maybe I over watered them?
    Any help would be appreciated. Help? :)

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      They’ll do great!! They love the heat, that’s where they flourish! Buy a soil moisture sensor off Amazon they’re inexpensive and they make it SO easy to tell if your bougainvillea need water!! You just stick it into the soil by the base of the plant and it will tell you if it’s dry, moist, or wet. Bougainvillea like to have moisture their first year while establishing their root system but after that they tend to like soil that dries out. So only water when dry! If it’s moist they’re happy :) enjoy! And happy gardening!!! 🌷🥰

    Thank you Kaitlyn, you have answered my question. There is a long stalk growing sideways and I didn't know whether to prune it or not! Also, I was given it in May this year. It was flowering then, I put it in the garden and it is still flowering in December? Is that normal? It has spikes on it too? I live in UK so it is winter now.

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes!! Totally normal! I actually filmed this video in December of last year! Mine love to bloom in the winter. I live in Florida in the US. They will bloom when they are happy with their climate! A great way I check to see how my bougainvilleas are doing, I look out for other bougainvilleas around my city and at neighbors houses and see if theirs are blooming. They all seem to bloom at the same time so that tells me they are just happy with the weather. When it gets very hot in the summer all of the bougainvilleas in my whole city were bare bones. The ones by the mall, my neighbors houses, etc. So keep your eye out where you live to see if they're blooming around you too :) And the spikes/thorns are there all the time! Hope you love your new plant! It's a beauty!!

    What variety is this? Did you have to support it?

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mario!! These are bougainvillea spectabilis! And they came with a trellis support! If you want them to ‘climb’ upwards rather than just turn into a stringy bush you will want to get a trellis and trim them as desired! 😊 hope this helps!

    • @imariosf
      @imariosf 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      KAITLYN TAYLOR thanks for the response. Do you know if they have one that grows up and supports on their own? Didn’t know they can grow as a bush. Pretty new at this but the one you shows is beautiful. Thanks and happy 4th

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@imariosf Not that I know of. Unless you get them in the 'tree' form which is just really a vine trimmed to look like a tree. My neighbor had one it was beautiful! The 'trunk' is just intertwined vines and at the top are the blooms. They're gorgeous you should look up a picture. But bougainvillea naturally grow like vines. So when they don't have a support they grow long stringy limbs in all directions and form to look like a big bush. The best way to get bougainvillea to support on their own is to keep pruning them back so their vines grow thicker! :)

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. Don’t worry this is a common issue. They can come back. One of the most common reasons is they are either not getting enough sun or water. Are they in an area they get sun? Have they been getting watered or any rain lately? ❤️
      One of the tricks you can do is stick your finger near the roots where it was planted and see if the soil is damp, dry, or wet. We want it to be damp. If it’s dry it needs water. If it’s wet, it’s getting too much water.

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It could be a few things! First, check your soil. I would stick your finger down into it. This is one of the best tests to detect whats going on. When you feel down in the dirt with your finger (about 4 inches deep) make sure it isn't wet down there. Damp is fine, but if it's wet your roots may be rotting. Their roots so not like to sit in water. But if you feel the soil and it feels dry - it needs water! The sunlight is not a factor since you said it gets a lot of sun so you're good on that! So this must be a water issue. Let me know how it goes! :)

    My beautiful pink bougainvillea didn't bloom all summer. It's finally in bloom. But it's red. How did that happen.

    I’ve planted two last year spring. They haven’t bloomed again, I haven’t pruned them. What’s best way to prune when they have long green branches?

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes! It’s time to prune them! The best way is to just go for it! Getting specific isn’t that important. But it kind of depends how long your vines are only because you don’t want to leave little nubs- you want to make sure there’s still enough vine for it to start another branch! I usually prune mine back a few inches at a time. Maybe 4-5 inches or so. It will be good for them! They will bloom again :) let me know how it goes!

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I am not sure! Try to contact your local plant nurseries and see which colors they have! Nurseries will always have the most variety! 😊💕 hope that helps!

    I’m confused.. I literally came from a video that said not to prune if you want flowers as the new growth has about 50/50 chance of either turning into a flower or a thorn and when you prune it will grow back with more thorn?

    • @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL
      @KAITLYNTAYLOROFFICIAL  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I totally understand! That is confusing!! I have not heard that. Pruning has been working well for me. You could always prune just one side of your bougainvillea and not the other, then give it a few weeks and see what the result is!! A little experimenting is always a great way to learn! :D Hope that helps!!

    I have three huge bougainvillea plants in full sun growing leaves very densely. Zero flowers despite of daily fertilizing with bloom, phosphate….

    • @Divinestyler22
      @Divinestyler22 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Too much nitrogen in certain fertilizer or over fertilizing will cause them not to flower and instead push out lots of leaves and vines. Espoma flower tone is a good one to use for them. It has less nitrogen than other ingredients. Also, daily sounds like way way too much. I would fertilize like every 2-3 months.
