2:02 tough one for France because French Empire in 1812 would actually be bigger if you count the vassals states of Austria, Prussia, Poland, Confederation of the Rhine, Italy, Croatia and most of Spain
Austria wasn't really a client state of France, but rather just defeated by France to the point where they decided to ally the French Empire. But it was technically still a sovereign state. Prussia, who's often depictured as defeated but sovereign, was in fact both a client state and under military occupation of France so yeah, I agree with you on that.

Sweden's borders at 6:00 are wrong. Sweden only gained Trondhjem Len at the Treaty of Roskilde. You have also marked the northern part of Bergenhus Len as a part of Sweden. One can also argue that Denmark's greatest extent was around 1613, when Denmark owned Norway from Finnmark to Bohus Len, as well as Skåne, Halland and Blekinge. In 1782 Denmark of course had Greenland, but Greenland isn't shown on the map.

Where is first French empire? It had colonies in Vietnam and Laos, Western Africa and North America, where its colonies had territories of the half of USA and Quebec, Canada. Also, second French empire controled the whole western Africa (1/3 of Sakhara desert territories, Morocco, Algeria, Togo, Mauritania, etc.) and still Vietnam and Laos. You could also add Napoleonic France, which controled 1/3 of USA, Benilux, most part of Spain, part of Germany, Northern Italy, part of Poland, etc. upd: Russia was bigger in the May of 1945, when it controlled territories of the whole Eastern Europe and German territories eastern than Elbe river. upd2: Yugoslavia was bigger after WW2, when it had Western Slovenia territories

Actually Lithuania(Lietuva) never had these territories. There was a big russian empire plan to russificate real Lithuania (Litwa) and her citizens (litvins). They raised nationalism in samogitians (baltic people who had their autonomy in Grand duchy of Lithuania - Samogitia) and proclaimed them as lithuanians (litvins name were changed to belarusians). 1. In 1816 Portugal did already hold the coastlines of Angola and Mozambique, but they took the rest of the interior of these countries only in the late 19th century 2. Yes, which is why Belgium's alternate greatest extent is 1922 to include Congo and Ruanda-Urundi
Northern Schleswig aint a huge simplyfication by comparing its territory. Its a editing mistake. Denmark was allowed More Autonomy during nazi occupation compared to so called Reichskommisariats that Germany formed in its occupied territories denmark itself was never made into a reichskommisariat because it surrended in less than a day and Danish King and government accepted German rule somewhat. Germany didn't annex Northern Schleswig for this reason.
I'm not sure if the North Sea Empire was larger from the Kalmar Union. However, in case of remastering this video, I will check once again and also fix the mistake with North Schleswig

Switzerland was NOT formed by Zürich, Bern und Luzern but by the 3 cantons of Uri, Schwyz and Unterwalden
for some of them you had the wrong flags, I don't know why, but I never seen those flags aswel, maybe there is meaning
which
The mapping is to quality as ever, I'd love to see the colonial empires, not solely Europe
Petition to bring back "State of the Church"
Amen!
Portuguese empire lasted until 1999
5:09 Wasn't Russias greatest extant was in 1866?
it was largest in 1866 because of Alaska
1895 Russian Empire was at its largest. Russia Lost Southern Shakalin and Port Arthur to The Japanese after Russo Japanese War.
Im gonna rethink last comment because russia did annex Tuva during Xinhai revolution in China after that loss to japan
I’m pretty sure the USSR was the largest.
Excuse my ignorance, but wasn't Napoleon's France bigger? and then the empire with the possessions in Africa and America doesn't count?
Actually Lithuania(Lietuva) never had these territories. There was a big russian empire plan to russificate real Lithuania (Litwa) and her citizens (litvins). They raised nationalism in samogitians (baltic people who had their autonomy in Grand duchy of Lithuania - Samogitia) and proclaimed them as lithuanians (litvins name were changed to belarusians).
According to this plan ukranians(ruthenians) were renamed to little russians.
But still good video! Creative success to you!
Portugal at its greatest extent included Brazil, Angola and Mozambique. Plus, Beligum colonised Congo.
You also forgot Portuguese possessions in India and China.
1. In 1816 Portugal did already hold the coastlines of Angola and Mozambique, but they took the rest of the interior of these countries only in the late 19th century
2. Yes, which is why Belgium's alternate greatest extent is 1922 to include Congo and Ruanda-Urundi
3:04 Didn't the Roman Empire touch the Persian gulf?
It did, but the Persian Gulf in that era was larger than it currently is
The video doesn't show all the territories Norway had at its peek, like Greenland and The Faroe Islands
Tho it was a good video.
Its also missing several parts we controlled in the british isles back then. The Isles, caithness and some others.
really Husavi, you remember Kalmar Union, but not the North Sea Empire.
Also Nazi Germany did not annex north Schleswig
Hey whats that papal flag used?
It's a banner of Pope Leo X from the 1510s
