  • Learn how to catch a goose or other large, reasonably friendly bird. This may come in handy at parks where these birds can often be injured / or are caught up in rubbish. Handling an animal is a good skill to have if you are in a situation where you need to help an animal out. Comment and share :)

There's a goose in a local park that's been sitting on this lawn close to cars for the last week and seems distressed. I think it's pulling out it's own feathers as the ground around it is covered with feathers. I gave it some lettuce, cabbage and rocket leaves this morning and it seemed pretty hungry. Not sure what to do about it... should I try to catch it and move it to other birds, which are in a better area, near the lake?
I called RSPCA but they referred me to the council as it's on park land. Yet to hear back from the council.. just thinking out loud..

Thanks, this is great - I'm trying to catch a goose that has fishing wire wrapped around his ankle and is loosing his foot. This has been going on for six months and we can't catch him. His foot has swollen up three times the regular size and it's breaking my heart. *Please educate yourself about feeding them bread, it's horrible for them. It fills them up so they don't eat food they need to eat to get nutrients such as calcium and niacin for strong bones. It also create the bad algae that destroys everything in the water.*

Did you catch the goose? I catch a lot of Canada geese with fishing gear related injuries. The trick is to set them up so you can sneak up behind them when they have their head down. So easy to catch when you learn how to do it.

Very late response, but I do believe the ones in the wilderness may be way more aggressive since they most likely aren’t used to seeing humans besides MAYBE a hunter. You’d be lucky to even get close to a wild goose considered they don’t rely on humans
