    The crazy thing is this can be applied to my compulsive internet use and browsing the web endlessly all day long instead of doing my recruiting/sourcing candidates or even learning a new thing. Thanks doctor, god bless you.

      @Steve Saul Same, so maybe we just need to find healthier addictions? running/biking/meditation/dancing.
      I used to dance a lot, clubs and salsa nights at this studio. I should get back into it.

      Congratulations man! Day 27 for me, since finding this channel. She does a phenomenal job of giving the brain science and facts about the issue WITHOUT judging. I think that's what makes this information easier to receive. She's telling us what she think would be best for us without commanding to telling us what to do. That makes us have to decide for ourself on how we're going to address the cognitive dissonance she's sparking in us. Option #1 for the win!

    This may be your best video yet Dr. Trish. I "quit" porn on 2 notable occasions in my life. First back in 2015 when I was 17 and wanted to see how long I could go without it. Only lasted a month. Second was 2016 where I attempted to see if I can go longer and caved after 2 months. In both instances my goal was never to quit indefinitely. I knew porn was bad for me by this point, but I didn't know how bad. Now at 25, I have full intent on quitting indefinitely and your videos gave me the push and wake-up call I needed to make that first mountainous step. I literally subscribed at the beginning of this month so I can keep seeing these videos in my recommendations. It's only been 27 days, but I've been using exercise and breathing techniques as my primary source of mood regulation. I still have sporatic urges to touch myself, but I haven't had any urges to open up the porn tab. Thanks for the good work you do. Also I love how you deconstructed the Tik Tokkers' mental state instead of attacking them. Hopefully they come to the realization soon enough and change their action for the sake of their own health.

    Dr. Leigh, all I can say is Thank you. This video is so excellent. I have been talking about cognitive dissonance for a long time with folks as it applies to other issues like politics etc. I never connected it with my own PMO issue. I thank God for you and hope you never quit doing what you are doing. The Porn industry through media like Tik Tok will be employing strategy #4 against you in force! Hang in there! You are simply wonderful to do this !

    I've applied this to my comfort zone many times because it's the major thing that has been holding my back to live the life I want to truly live. I know PMO isn't helping me but it's also in my comfort zone. I'm not used to things out of my comfort zone. However, to do this I'm not used to, like abstaining from PMO is exactly what I'm going to have to do if I want the life I want to live. Its really not easy but I've been trying for a year now and I hope to do better overall.

    I think one of the easiest, most immediate ways we justify porn use is simply by thinking, "it may be harmful, but it feels good". It's so easy, because it doesn't even require a worded thought, it just requires anticipation of that impulsive release.

The meandering, stumbling style is great for a clinical setting but it's painful to sit through on TH-cam. I'd like to see more but this could be condensed into a concise 7 minute video that got straight to the point.

Avoid violent movies and subjects that are depressing or people that are depressing. I think she has a video explaining that cycle. When PMO is the main source of mood regulation, taking it out and not replacing it with something else can leave you feeling worse and possibly even worsen your urges. I use exercise and breathing as my mood regulation now, in place of PMO. It could be any hobby or anything you enjoy that doesn't involve PMO. Best wishes to you and remember, we're really all in this together.

    I’ve watched porn literally everyday since I was 11. I haven’t skipped a day even on days where I have sex with real people. I think I’m broken. I’ve sworn off committed and loving relationships for other reasons.
    Is there a reason for single people to stop watching porn? Like if you have no interest in actually attracting a real mate, then Is this stuff irrelevant? Genuine question.

      Is that a life that appeals to you? Alone and incapable of intimacy with another human, forever a slave to the dopamine rush, like a monkey masturbating in a cage at the zoo, another victim and enabler of the multimillion dollar trade in human misery that is the porn industry?
      This isn't about 'attracting a mate', it's about having self-respect and dignity. If you don't think that's worth it, man, I don't know what to tell you.

    Cognitive dissonance and porn addiction behaviour has to be two different meanings and concepts. one of them is mentally conditioning your brain and the other is conflicting your brain with over information, or information of interest. CD meaning their is just too much information out their for the brain to repeatedly absorb and focus and therefore may be causing distress on that part, which in a sense is conflict of information. Addiction or Stimuli is a behavioural condition and neither does damage the brain, you become accustomed to it knowing the dopamine hit you had last made you feel the way you wanted it. No individual has the same characteristics, and you cant situate everyone in the same category.

  • @thetruther954
    @thetruther954 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Trish, I didn't get all the way the way through this. First, in terms of neurochemistry, it never made sense to me how your really exciting breast, or lips, or position you suggest between us is qualitatively different stimulus than a screen picture. Radiation from an t.v. tube screen maybe? You've ignored this before. The stuff you talk about, the beta energy, the alpha energy, the middle peace of the brain. You've got to realize, really, it makes no sense. But, there are I think a preponderance of not only P.hds, but MDs as well that will tell you, masturbation does not damage the brain. Before subjecting children to your insights, I would would think I would want, as a scientist to be certain of my own objectivity. You talk of my loneliness, anxiety, all that stuff again. I guess at this point I will tell you, there is no man on the planet that is lonely, has anxiety, any of that crap. And I guess, I represent them. The dissonance thing was interesting. I hope you liked Jeff because he said he had friends with analytical minds. If I follow someone further because I have sold my home and am more committed to believing a fraud they have perpetrated, I would think that is a different dissonance than knowingly lying about something I known was boring, because why, I'm getting paid more or I want the person next to believe me? That person knows it was boring. They're lying. My Dad told me in his time a man was a provider and a protector, I guess just like that fool believed in the space ship. How is that dissonance? I wonder about the psychologist. He "suspected the spaceship wasn't coming?". Maybe he was a neuroscientist and he figured it out. Love John.
