    Dear Guys,
Great programme once again. Thank you for promoting a great variety of potatoes and giving their characteristics. It is good to see a nice variety at farmers’ markets these days.
    Sincerely,

Fascinating video thanks. Many of the varieties you mention are rare or unknown here in the UK. But, I love purple majesty and the starchy/ floury Shetland black, great for absorbing butter and sauces.

My favorite is Yukon gold and russet. I love all potatoes. Thank you for your excellent information, I will decide what kind I want to grow next year. My question is should I cut the flowers off when they start growing? I grew red and Russett. Only got about 7 potatoes from 15 that I chitted. I was so disappointed. Any advice would be helpful .

If your potatoes start to flower I would prune the flowers off so more of the energy the plant takes in goes to producing tubers, and not fruit.

In my three years of trying I haven't had success with potatoes, either in-ground or in containers. I don't think my soil is right for them, and I probably didn't get the mix right for the containers, either. Do you have any advice about the soil for potatoes?

Aside from moving to East Idaho, make sure it is sandy, well draining soil. That is the most important thing, but you will still have to water often or you will experience drought stress. Ideally with a pH around 6.0-6.5, though a range of 5.0-6.5 will work.
