I drive pass that bunker nearly everyday and never once stop to look into it, much more to go down... It take a legend from Canada named Steve to enter the water filled bunker with a camera and post it on TH-cam 👍👍👍👍👍 Thanks bro

    @JetLag Warriors :
There used to be a small secret door leading to underground tunnel in the main prayer hall but was demolished and the floor/stairs leading down sealed when the hall was renovated and extended. This tunnel was connected to five other buildings nearby which is the Nobat Tower, the Istana Lama (Old Palace), the Balai Besar and the Treasury Office. Underground, it is believed to house a room to store the state's treasure of the time. This tunnel is also connected to the nearby river to serve as an escape route for the royal family should there be an attack from the enemy. I have been to one of the entrance door and it was quite small but enough for one person to get through at a time.
Also, the compound of the Zahir Mosque used be be the burial ground for hundreds of fallen Kedahan warriors during the battle with Siam but was later exhumed to several cemeteries around the city.

2:19. About Kedah history of wars. My great-great-great grandfather who hailed from Sumatra and of Mandailing tribe was a military officer and "panglima" (warrior) in the Kedah armed forces going to war against Siam/Thailand in the 1821 and 1841 Kedah-Siam Wars. He came to Kedah from Sumatra (now in Indonesia), married a local Kedah Malay woman, and from there gave rise to us his descendants. So, was told to me by my late mother who died in 2016.

our ancestors called the siamese "Siam perut hijau" means "Siam green stomach" because of their cruelty towards the Malays. It is said that after Siam conquered some part of Kedah, (Kedah back then was a big empire) they stamped on the locals with elephant😭. Many kedahan warriors died and the Sultan fled to Penang to planned a new strategy. And they managed to fought back. The history was very long.

Kota Kuala Kedah is the Malay kingdoms' stronghold in the war against Siam (Thailand) backed by the British way before British involvement in the governance of Malaya.
British Navy ships formed a blockade around the fort while Siam forces attacked from the land...but the ships would not come closer to the fort to bombard it because Kedah possess a bigger cannon with longer range that could hit the ships (probably technology from Ottoman empire because the Malay Kingdoms have relationship with the empire hence the star and moon symbols on our flags)

The Land of History. You nailed it. Actually Steve, the history of Kedah starts way from The Old Kedah, once part of Langkasuka kingdom. Built in by Merong Mahawangsa, 2nd century. Rich kingdom w hindu-buddhist influence. The 'Candi' is the proof. You can find the remains in Merbok. Yes, our land witnessed fierce battles centuries back. Described as undaunted in fierce battles by Raja Chola's conquest.
And also once the busiest trading land w merchant ships from India to China, vice versa.
Just to share a little. To know the locals, is to know their history.
Ivana look so sweet wearing baju kedah. Be safe. Enjoy the re-union💟

Kota Kuala Kedah Fort.. most bloodiest tragedy started here... 12 November 1824 Kedah were ambushed by Siamese
Captain Osborn(British Officer) stated in his book Kedah Blockade 1824 told a tragedic story when siam arrived, Malays facing miserable torture. beheaded, raping pregnant women. some got several torture such as burning alive, piercing ear with bamboo stick and they gathered men and women then marched to Bangkok.
Thousands of Malays of Kota Kuala Kedah moved to Penang, and yes Penang Malays historically came from Kota Kuala Kedah because of this war. some moved to North Sumatera(Jaring Halus, they actually still maintained Kedah Dialect).
The reason why they attack Kedah is because of what happened to Phuket. Back then from Satun/Setul until Phuket - Kawthuang, Myanmar were part of Kedah Empire.
Phuket is the territory for two empire(Thai and Burma) fighting each other in order to seize the land. it's a long story.
Good to see you visit this place, i hope you guys have a plan to visit ancient place at Merbok.

My ancestors fought throughout the war and some of them were massacred there in the fort during the war against Siam and the Brits (nicknamed as War of the Whispering Enemy / Perang Musuh Bisik). Hearing the stories from my late grandpa about the bloody century is sentimental. Not all visitors cared to bring up the bloody event. Thank you, Steve and I hope Kedahan will give u the best experience to both of you! Eat till yer drop 🤣

Recently the govt of Kedah announced the discovery of a very rare mineral which is even more expensive than gold, worth at around Rm43 .. the rare mineral is found underneath the ground of some towns in Kedah as well as north of Perak .. so Kedah is going to be super rich .. hence Kedah will continuously be listed as one of the 'wanted' states in Msia by conquorers 🤗 .. very interesting video .. tq Steve and Ivana for sharing .. stay safe always 💕🐈💕

Right! The REE (rare earth element) should make Kedah rich (again!!). We just spent some time learning about how iron ore made Kedah rich for thousands of years from around 800 BC - 1100 AD. God has blessed Kedah it seems

There are a lot of forts in Malaysia if you're interested, there are a lot of wars happening here unknown to the outside world. Wars between kingdoms, wars with western colonial powers, WW2 and post-WW2. This land is rich with minerals, the land is fertile, everything can grow here, good climate, animals can live here and the land being in the middle of sea trade route between the west and the east, this land is always under threat through time, even today, if relationship between US and China not going well, Malaysia is important for both parties for strategic purpose and because we have oil. So, while now we feel so peaceful, we must remember that there are wolves out there waiting...

This civilization is also contemporary with Roman and Greek civilizations

The history of kota kuala kedah is quite interesting and actually important towards the nationhood of Malaysia. The fort is the Alamo of kedahan. In 1838, 200 kedahan soldiers fought valiantly against 7000 siamese army, and the british royal navy sea blockade. It was the last battle fought at that fort. The kedah army lost. However significantly it was one of the reason why the siam kingdom couldn't expand further south of the malay peninsula.
