What a great coach! Any coach in any sport could benefit from seeing this lesson. The minute, detailed breakdown of the smallest elements of Daria's swing is exactly how to teach physical techniques to any athlete. Great job coach Baker.

I bowl in league and have two teammates that don't practice and don't bowl summer. They show up and consistently average 195 to 210. I on the other hand don't bowl for a week and I fall apart. It takes me weeks when I don't bowl the summer to get back to bowling well. Then it takes the whole year to get my average back up. The good news is I help the team each week as I get better. Watching this video really helped me put my game into prospective. I am older and have been bowling for a long time. Thanks for sharing, Today I will be heading out to practice :) I will try a few of these concepts. Thanks for sharing, stay safe and take care.

I make those exact same mistakes, only without the rev rate. I also make other mistakes. I've heard Mark analyze before, and greatly respect his observations. Bowling is one of the most challenging sports - improvement is not simply a matter of what we're doing "wrong". It's more correctly about "why" we are seeing the issues we have. Why is my spine tilt inconsistent? Why do I pull down from the top? Why am I off balance? Why are my ball and I both lying in the gutter? Thanks for sharing; thanks for the link to Mark. As I've said before, many people are very self-conscious about their bowling issues/shortcomings. Why? Anybody can see what's happening. But people take everything personally, and get their feelings hurt. You are very transparent and honest, even with all of us strangers on YT. I really appreciated your spare series, which I haven't seen anyone else dare to post. You bowled bold. Embrace your greatness with confidence!

I went for some friendly, casual bowling on Monday with a couple friends after a few years of not bowling. I was surprised my ball still fit my hand perfectly. The first game was horrible for me so I thought back to this video and put some of what I learned from it to good use. As soon as I focused on keeping my body and head straight, I immediately started getting strikes, and I started to have a new sensation to my approach and release that felt...good. Just smooth, fluid, and complete. I never got that feeling before even when I used to bowl all the time and averaged 180-200. It felt...addictive.
Thanks for sharing this video. It was very helpful.

Leave it to Mark Baker to break it down in nice understandable way. That was great to show how the swing is everything in the timing. I never realized about the effect on spine tilt but I am just a average league bowler. Hope we can see bowling open up in the country and especially California. I hope Fountain Bowl remains in business but realize that may not happen.

@@phokingnerd Fountain Bowl has new owners and they wanted to redevelop the property but city red tape made them give up that idea and re-open the lanes which are now open. I think leagues may return in September.

Hi Daria, a couple of things.
    1. Back in your rookie season, I saw you, Verity, and Diana bowl live during the Richmond championship. I was so in awe by all of 3 of your techniques that I recorded it, flipped it (I'm a lefty), and studied it.
    2. There's another video out there where you're bowling in slow motion. I go back to that and compare my bowling videos against it.
You are so polished and efficient, there's no way that anyone who knows bowling would or could criticize your bowling technique. The so much flow there. I love that you keep pursuing the perfect game.
Hopefully, I can bowl as well and as beautifully as you. I'm thinking of having a Mark Baker session myself.
    Thanks for sharing this!

Thank you for sharing Daria! Really good stuff from Mark. I had the pleasure of getting to do a camp Bakes in Oregon last year. Excellent analysis from an excellent coach!
You have nothing to be self conscious about! I know it's tough sometimes opening up and being vulnerable but its how we get better. I have always thought you have one of the best physical games out there. Fully agree with Mark, you add some more of Liz's deadeye accuracy to your power game, whoa you are going to be a force to be reckoned with on tour.
Love your passion for the game and your relentless drive to get better! Watching you work keeps me inspired to take my work to anther level.
Take care Daria, hope you see you back competing in the states soon. And maybe to actually get to see you bowl in person.

I'm hoping the information in this video will help me get back on track. Bakes is great! I’ve had two virtual lessons myself and after my second lesson, I rolled 697 700 and 693 in leagues! I started around 170s in both leagues and now I’m at 204 in one and 195 in the other.
If you feel like you are struggling, Bakes will have the answer!

Daria, at the risk of embarrassing you, if you should read this, I can't resist saying that you are one of the most delightful and radiant human beings I've ever met and that you have one of the most impressively beautiful and powerful physical female games I and the whole world have ever seen, and I've longed to see you rise above your struggles with consistency to take your rightful place in the topmost tier of the PWBA. I have the feeling that your dedicated work with the great Mark Baker is going to get and keep you there. All the best to you, Daria, and thank you for sharing this and your other videos with us. You and they are luminous blessings to the world!

Wow! That was definitely a very interesting and enlightening in-depth analysis. At normal speed, I didn't see a difference. But, slow-mo showed a rather inconspicuous change in your push away that affects the timing of your full approach. This is something I struggle with constantly as well. I'm no professional... not even an expert in any way, shape or form so I say this with utmost sincerity and gratitude, "Thank you so much!" Your video may have just shown me something that has plagued me all my years of bowling. Now, it's time for me to hit the lanes for practice. ☺️

  • @marcf478
    @marcf478 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

Daria, I am having this exact problem myself! After watching your video I went back and watched my own practice session. I discovered I was about 2-3 balls late in my swing timing causing me to pull down in the shot and over rotating my shoulder. Guess what happens next? I roll inside my intended my target line. My coach calls it "helping the ball" and I tend to do this when I am not seeing the reaction down lane that I am looking for.
Secondly, my spine tilt straightens when I am at the bottom of my swing at times. Somehow, I manage to stay behind the ball, but I have a tendency to cast those shots to the right.
Watching your session allowed me to see similar problems in my physical game.
Let's face it, I doubt there is another woman on tour that can match your power game. The closest person I can think of is your friend Diana! So, I think you are on the verge of becoming the best woman bowler in the world. (Of course, I am a huge fan of yours anyway, so my opinion might be a little jaded - Ha!)
Thank you for sharing your session!! I am SUPER excited to go work on these things myself. Oh, and please, more "singing in Polish accent." That REALLY made me laugh!

Okay this was brilliant. It made me look at some recordings of my approach recently where I've been working so hard on my footwork. Now that I've gotten that nailed down pretty well, I noticed my head is doing the same thing from shot to shot. The angle is very inconsistent, which is causing inconsistencies in my release just like in this video. Looks like I have my next goal to work towards in practice now.

Although her timing is better the one thing I noticed after making adjustment to push away is the left arm. All modern power players lead with left arm pointing forward, after making adjustments this arm goes out to the left, much like traditional players of the past. Just wondering if this was intenional or a result of making changes.

The guy at the pro shop told me that you have the same double jointed elbow. And that I should watch you bowl. You have given me new inspiration.
