      Not really meant to be a river kayak. I really like the Lynx for what it is.

    Quality control is all done the same as when they were in the US. This goes the same for materials and molds, all the same. Just because things are made in Mexico does not mean QC is lower. All this does is provide a cheaper labor for Hobie. Hopefully a less expensive product.

      @@Deckardrick007 I agree. Mexico is not a death sentence for Hobie. Going big box store may very well be

  • @bizboomer
    @bizboomer หลายเดือนก่อน

    The Outdoor Power Equipment (small engine powered equipment) industry did this in the 1990's, when the big box stores began marketing premium brands made to price points for the box store customer base. Brand name dealers were livid and rightly so. The box stores do the volume while the mom/pop dealers enjoy a boom in parts and service demand. So, look at your financials and determine how much service/parts/accessories you sell for Hobie. If Hobie is going to set up warranty/service centers for box store lines, maybe that would make sense. Otherwise, if Hobie dealers either dropped the line or de-emphasized the line for dealer only brands, opportunities may be there. Good example: Stihl power equipment, sold in dealer only locations. Hobie needs the volume/revenue, nothing new there.

    I have a bad gut feeling that Hobie will not be around in the next five years. :(

    Over Priced and lower quality. They used to be worth the money but not since the company was sold.

    I wish Hobie and Old Town would make affordable Kayaks.

      They do. Those kayaks just never get talked about unfortunately.

      @thebeardedpaddler I'm talking about a Kayak from both in the RS117 class. Hobie and Old Town don't make them.

    Hobie can sell where they want personally I would never buy one. There are a few other large fishing kayaks that in my opinion offer more or at least as much at a much lower cost. For example if you were going to give me for free a Hobie Pro Angler 12 or a Native Titan X 12.5 I would choose the Titan all day long. If I was paying it would be an easier choice as the price between them is around $1000.

    • @thebeardedpaddler
      @thebeardedpaddler  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hobie needs to innovate for sure. More value is needed at the price point.
      100% agree

      @@thebeardedpaddler Years ago Hobie was at the top of the kayak world. Their pedal drive was unique and there were very few if any systems other then paddle out there. They could justify asking top dollar for their boats. Now there are many fine kayaks equal to them and sometimes surpassing them in quality. Some of the prop type drives are really improved now and all of them offer instant reverse. In terms of stability some of them just laugh at what Hobie has to offer yet they still price their products way over the competition. It seems like they want to cling to the old reputation they once had and since being sold are a completely different company. Many of the other top brands seem to want to innovate and listen to what their customers want. Unless they completely change their business model from top to bottom I can see them just fading away.

    I would never personally buy a Hobie. Native Bonafide NuCanoe and Old Town are far superior brands imo.
