Bert's parent style and the girls reaction, the cat dealing with three dogs; two of them basically giant puppies, Bert life on the road, your life as a part-time single parent and then you and Bert coming together as a parenting team, and all the podcast guests coming and going to the studio and some even staying for dinner. I think the show would be a hit. Loved the episode, just made me think it would be a wonderful sitcom.
I'm a therapist and a guy, so I can relate to this conversation. It's not about whether it works to punish yourself as motivation but is there a better way to accomplish the same goal, and yes there is a better way, which LeAnn does a good job describing. That added stress of punishing yourself will build over time and can impact various areas of your life like how you interact with others, self confidence, managing emotions, etc.
The Bert guest spots are always my favorite WOTP episodes - they’re all great... I love LeeAnn’s friends and the specialists she’s had on, but these ones are the best to me. I love how real they are, how much they truly seem to enjoy being together and aren’t bored. I learn so much about myself and an important (but failed) relationship in my own life, hearing these two interact. Thank you LeeAnn, Bert, and Halston!
These are my FAVORITE podcasts. Having both of them talking about marriage, kids, and life... it humanizes them more - makes them more relatable. I love the L&B podcasts
I do agree on education. My 26 year old son had no plans for college. Family acted like he was going to be such a failure. He got an apprenticeship right out of high school for HVAC. He is now double certified in plumbing and HVAC. He owns his own home, no student loans, no credit card debt, and has a nice savings account for a rainy day. He’s doing markably better than most of the family members that treated him like a failure.
Leann. I totally agree with you about this detached social existance we are leaning into. I think it is good for business, but for close social interaction, it is so detached. I know someone close who tried this dating on line and they text a bunch and when they meet there is this this social pressure to be closer than you are, cause you text to much. And it becomes a job interview, which she was told, I really like you, but I think this other person is better for me, cause she is more physical and it was just one date, after texting all week. It is sad and I hope people text less and take time to meet and get to know each other. Thank you and Bert for talking about real issues and the need to take time together.

And yes, mom's end up feeling bad cop and dad is good cop. Dad can just run in and want to play when clothes are all over, to have structure, as a mom, to have her kids survive, is a witch. I totally get it. I totally get it.
I remember reading a great quote which I can't remember the exact words of now, but it was something along the lines of raising empowered young women is a great thing but in the process of actually raising them it can be challenging!

Bert's the wild, fun dad i never had. How would you handle a drug addicted child? Level 1, Weed & Booze. Level 3, pills. Level 5, Met. & H. Whats the glue that holds family together? (This ones for Fun!) I don't think Bert could ever raise a stubborn Boy (Son) like me! Test it! Bert couldn't ever handle boys, and Tom, Prepare Yourself! (To be fair Bert knows way more than me and I'm talking out my ass, bow down, bow down)
I think that if you beat yourself up too much, you will destroy yourself. You will also take-to-heart every negative comment directed at you, because you agree with them.
