    Great vidéo. A famo is always impressive and it is excellent to see a half track to do off road!!!
    Good recovery with a Sherman...

    That was odd, I guess the chassis/tow-hitch at the back dug in. Lovely truck. Must have taken hundreds of hours to make it look that good.

    With all those people on board haphazardly climbing around I understand his pace. The sdkfz was impaired by its hitch but otherwise did a great job. I am curious to see if the Sherman could make it through those same obstacles, it has another 10 tons to lug up that incline.

    GERMAN quality and engineering still going after nearly 80+ YEARS amazing but so complex made it very temperamental and hard to maintenance in the field. Plus it is *FAIR WEATHER machine not made for COLD climates such as USSR*

      It is not entirely correct because the Famo was highly valued by the troops because it was almost the only vehicle that, aside tanks or fully tracked vehicles, that could go anywhere both on the snow and muddy quagmire. In fact when not recovering tanks it was much used as a transport. Regarding the much needed service the real headache was greasing each single track, a characteristic most German half-tracks, but try to grease it in the snow or mud! Otherwise the Famo was very reliable and it's tracks gave long service...

    It should be the other way around, use a heavy halftrack to rescue a light tank. But this halftrack us a very complicated and in it's day a very expensive vehicle .

      since when is a sherman tank a light tank?

      Sherman: 35 Tons, 450 HP
      FAMO: 18 tons, 270 HP

      @@lucianene7741 The 18 ton of the FAMO is the pull capacity not its weight. I am not sure what the pull capacity of a Sherman was?

    • @malinkog9605
      @malinkog9605 4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      @@johnsamu No no, the sd.kfz 9 is 18 ton, and the pull capacity is 28 ton.

    the front wheel has no power right? actually wts the benefit of the half track design? so it doesnt have to have very long track runniing through the entire front to back? what if the wheel is broken
