Ever since I discovered this Bulgarian music I cannot stop listening to it! If I had to take music to a deserted island and choose between my Beatles records or this? Sorry Beatles.....these people are the most intriguing folks I have ever heard of and their melodies and harmonies are truly genius. I cannot love them enough.

She sings "mother have only one child and she don't want to loose it", normal folklor song, almost 90% of bulgarian folklor is all about some tragedy. Lisa is the absolute master in this matter, she is like in home water: pure saddness and struggle is her best way to go ... and yes - she can sing it in very impressive way!

Въй-въй много концептуално-авантгардно! Харесвам! По-принцип при подобни колаборации, когато фолклкорна/народна музика е примесена с други стилове и това бива пречупвано през призмата на абстракта, за съжаление често крайния резултат звучи претенциозно и ненатурално, но за щастие ефекта в случая е точно обратния.

The music is great and I welcome the project. I was at their cocert in Sofia and they moved me to tears (in a good way :)). Some of the other Bulgarians here hear the Arabic elements and feel offended for some reason... Relax and ejoy the art!

Дори и в българската народна музика има ритми които се срещат и в арабската. В Пиринския край например има типичен дум-дум-так-дум-так ритъм, но никой не се заслушва защото в обработките тарамбуките са заровени някъде по назад в музиката.

C'est une chanson qui parle d'une mère qui demande à sa fille si sa famille natale lui est plus proche du cœur ou celle ou elle est marillée. Et la fille répond qu'elle aime plus sa famille paternelle mais ça dure que pendant un moment dans la vie, alors que la famille de son mari c'est pour la vie. J'imagine que tu peux sentir que ça c'est des chansons qui font pleurer tout le monde quand une jeune femme va se marier et quitte sa maison pour toujours.

Funny that you write that under a video of music that is so heavily influenced by other styles. Balkan music is a mixture, it's a melting pot of european folk, slavic, arabic an even asian elements as far as I know and hear it. It IS absolutely amazing, but it has nothing to do with being european :D
@@Soso-ii8dp That is true. I am Balkan (Bulgarian) and we are a mix of many cultures, not all of them European. That's where the best stuff comes from -- the mixing cultures.
@@Soso-ii8dp not really...balkan music has its own original sound and rhythm patterns that is older than most....balkan turks and gypsies have been influenced by it...not the other way around...any musicologist will tell you that....

I know :) I've been listening to them for years. My worry is about this experimental period...
Well, if you listen to original folklore you will notice that their work is quite worked on. One of the beauties of Bulgarian folklore is that, unlike many, many others, it's alive. But yeah, it does leave a lot to be desired if you love the folklore
@@mminlovewithflo Don't worry, their only touring with Lisa Gerrard right now as a collab. This is actually from Lisa Gerrard's tour with them. Me and my whole family will see them next weekend, we only bought the tickets because of the Bulgarian Voices tho :)

Това е една много лоша идея за някакво смесване на музикални стилове. Нашият великолепен хор се е снишил до замъглен фон на Лиза Герард. Съжалявам, но според мен никой не е спечелил от този проект.

Lisa Gerrard est décidément bien loin dans l'imposture. Après ses expérimentations avec Klaus Schulze, depuis Dead Can Dance, elle prouve juste qu'elle ne peut plus rien faire sans réverbération ou écho sur son micro. Et j'en suis triste.
People keep trying to experiment with this specific genre and turn in into a world music fusion - all too unsuccessfully. The choir does it because of the funding. I doubt they find much musical merit in it what so ever. Yet another sad story ...
I found Bulgarian music via Kate Bush and thought her colab with Trio Bulgarka was quite successful, what did you think of that?

@Павлина Търновска Мистерията на българските гласове само по себе си е "Замърсяване" - по традиционните български села никой не е пеел толкова сложно аранжирани изпълнения. Традицията не е това, което мислиш, че е.
