    I had a '66 GTV 1750 , loved that car , i wound it out to 100 mph in fourth , then dropped it into fifth . Loved that sound .

    One of the favorite cars of my mis-spent youth. I used to drive one from Milan to Lugano almost weekly - it loves the mountain roads. But I didn't have the 1700 engine. I learned more from this little video about the car than I did driving it for a couple years and reading the literature of the days. I still love these little Alfa's , they have real spirit and look beautiful inside and out. Now that i'm old I drive Packards.. but this brings back memories - Cheers -

    A particularly beautiful Alfa - and it certainly brought a smile to your face, Donald. I don't know what perfection is, but this must be pretty close.

    These are cars you don't see very often. Heard of them only. Alphas are overlooked always. Very beautiful shape. Unusual car. Kind of like a 911. Simple dash. Nice sounding engine. Those skinny tires are cool. Thanks Mr. Osborne. ❤❤🤩🤑🤑😜😎😎

    Back in 1999 a friend had one of these, a badly rusted example. He really wanted me to restore it, something I could've done at the time, having done several rotisserie restorations of XK-Es, various Alfas and an Austin Healey 100M. Instead I moved 600 miles away and haven't restored a car since. I don't know if it was restored, it was a valuable car even then, I hope it was.

    Lovely car . An engineer friend of mine would often eulogise about how he loved his Sprint special .
    It was very rusty and eventually had to be scrapped. But Graham said that it was the best car he ever owned. I often think of him in his Alfa when I’m machining something on his old Myford lathe. He passed away a good few years ago. But he would be happy to see his machines making stuff for old Italian cars.
    I’m also a fan of the BAT cars coach building at its finest.
    Il be co piloting an Alfa Romeo 1900 super on the Mille Miglia if a few weeks I know it’s not a BAT car but it’s got the DNA !
    I’ll be doing some stuff on my TH-cam channel
    Mark’s Italian Garage .
    I don’t know if I will ever get the chance to visit the museum but with your videos we all get the chance to enjoy it.

    Love this segment! My dream car since the early '60's when my father owned one is the 1300cc Giulietta Sprint. About 80 HP and a tad over 100 MPH - all I ever wanted or needed. The only thing my family disliked about our Alpha was the Lucas electrical stuff. One time during a family outing in a severe rainstorm with us two kids in the rear 'jump seat', the windscreen wipers and lights went out ... then on and off. Scary moments to be sure. The car often failed to start on cold days. The ignition system seemed dodgy at times. And this Alfa was NEW. Years later I talked to Sprint owner who was very pleased because he had all the electrical stuff taken out and replaced by Delco Remy.

    You picked a great day to film. The soupy skies provide a mysteriously dramatic backdrop that really allows this car to “pop.”
    Thanks for including the shot of the national park sign as it helped me distinguish where this was filmed - fantastic.
    Thank you!

    Hello Donald . The "B A T " cars were outragious but fabulous works of art and built by artisans . Was yours on all four ? It sounded pretty rough for one of these lovely engines and seemed to lack the normal zip they are reknown for . Thanks Donald

    • @Zagato67
      @Zagato67 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello John, yes, it was running on all four- but I this particular engine has a feel (and sound) much closer to the 2L ones than most of the 1750s I've driven... I don't know why!

    Lovely Video, Donald. Thanks for posting. I love Corrado´s "Low Nose", but have always wondered why the rims were white not silver. I guess he knows his stuff. I had a 1963 Giulia SS for 33 years, now sold to a friend and undergoing a full resto in Switzerland. You mention the paint. The cars seems to be in Pininfarina Tomato red not the darker Bertone shade. Is this a factory option or a simple error. Finally thank you for taking me out to lunch in Palm Springs several years ago. Vaya con Dios ! and all the best, Tarik Wildman

    Beautiful little thing, but I wonder what other mods they have put into it, as the engine sound is totally away of the original 1300, 1750 and 2000s, it sounds like a VW Beetle,really weird.Would be nice to read a bit about that

  • @wallycox4579
    @wallycox4579 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I love the car and I love the 4 cylinder Alfas of the 50's thru the 70's. I have owned at least one of the 1300 -2000's in spiders, coupes and a 1750 Berlina. My complaint is that now that they are old, rare cars, no one will rev them to the point where they sing. I don't think you shifted above 3000 rpm and we were deprived of the beautiful voice of these cars.

    • @Zagato67
      @Zagato67 ปีที่แล้ว

      Wally, I did shift above 3k a few times, watch and listen again- but remember we're always respectful of the speed limits and sharing the road!

    • @wallycox4579
      @wallycox4579 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Zagato67 I totally respect that you need to be good neighbors and I love your work, but 3k in an Alfa is a fast idle. These engines love to rev. I also think the removal of the original 1300 travesty. The 1750 is a great engine and retains some of the best of the Alfa fours' characteristics, but revving a 1300 to redline is so much fun.

    Alfa in the 50’s ans 60’s we’re ahead of the game. Whats odd is that the post war world is what motivated them to think ahead. Fuel was short so instead of replacing the 6c with a large 6 cylinder they decided to use a high revving hemi head dual cam 4 that had the same output. They used 5 speeds in a world when 3 was still standard. They used light weight monocoque chassis and transaxles and were focused on power to weight. The post war 1900 for example had 100 bhp per tonne with a hp output of 100 and a top speed of 100 mph while the xk 120 by comparison was a primitive design with a big engine that almost twice the size. It was one of the fastest cars in the world when it dropped in 51 and it only got better. To survive they produced smaller more affordable cars like this but with the same principles in mind. I can tell you rn that ferrari was nowhere near this advanced in the period, nor were most cars. This was not even its main competitor for the 911 at the time, that wouldve been the grand touring 2600. But most certainly this wouldve been the one to buy if you wanted a drivers car.
