It still cracks me up he had this guy for years and just had him on for catch phrases and then out of nowhere in the last few years realizes he had the best sidekick in the world right there the whole time. Lol
If I'm remembering correctly, the first year or two that they had Geoff on the show, all of his dialogue was pre-recorded, so there was only a limited number of things that Craig could get a response to. Whenever they decided to have Josh start doing the voice live is when this magic started to happen. Once he was voicing Geoff for a while and he and Craig had their chemistry figured out, I think that's when Craig realized that Josh would be perfect for some on-camera bits as well because he is so funny and could make anything work.
Absolutely love Craig and Jeff! Miss them so much wish they would come back on television. But at least we have clips like this to check out and reminisce with. Thanks so much for the posting. Everybody take care, take it easy and be safe. PS Craig I absolutely love you and miss you.
If u listen at the end, it's Jeff who comes up with the punch line and not Craig 'things are getting slow...' Craig does not say that when he calls Prince. Great improv by Jeff at the end!
In a world of unfunny SNL and every other late night show-excepting Gutfeld-why in the world has Josh Robert Thompson been relegated to the cheap seats? His career should have skyrocketed after the LLS and instead it fizzled. Just what is the criteria for being a Network exec?!
Ok, this has always puzzled me. These are not written jokes, right? How are they so fast? It's like they're on joke steroids the way they come up with their jokes so quickly.
I wont miss the show much TBH. Because stuff like this was less common as the show continued. When the show first started, and the first few years passed, it was great because this kind of stuff happened every night. But it got way to planned out and became a sketch show. So I say, RIP.
NinjaOnANinja You'd have to specify what context you use sketch in. Are you talking about a bit or a sketch as in Saturday Night Live? Unscripted events were usually left field and had no promise of success. If they resorted to bits, as in this room service, you were expecting a laugh. (The room service bit was usually unscripted.)
Sno King As in something planned. An event that is going to take place. His interviews were the only thing to remain unplanned. The rest was rehearsed pretty much.
NinjaOnANinja The only thing Craig ever remotely 'prepared' for was the monologue. Everything else, entirely unrehearsed. Anything that was ever 'planned' was ready to be taken off the rails immediately, which it generally did. The bits that Craig/Geoff came up with were might have been consistently rehashed, but where they went with it was up to them in the moment, just organic improvisation. Things like this bit were increasingly present in the latter half of the show. If anything, the opposite of what you're saying is true, since several years back they DID do actual mini-sketches on the show. Won't deny that there is a charm to the old days of TLLS, but 'rehearsed' is a very wrong criticism to give.
Geoff: the greatest sidekick in talk show history! 😁👍
This show was in constant evolution. :-D
It damb sure was constantly evolving.

I would just love to see a reunion show with Craig, Geoff, and Secretariat. Like what they’ve been doing since they left the show.
Me too. I don't think they would've lost a step but sadly I don't think they'll do that. Not just a show but a bunch of whole new series. Every week.
Perhaps they could visit Secretariat's retirement pastures, I guess Geoff is getting a bit rusty. I think they are probably running a Vlog.
And Dana ,hot potato
That would be AmazeBallz!!
