    This War of Mine: The Dice Horror Game

    Ghost Stories is the very definition of brutal. I've played it a bunch of times, and only won twice.

    Really happy to see Horrified here - it's so addictively brilliant as a solo game! Also - it's BRUTAL. :-)

      Thanks for nice comments Joellen. I'm glad you like the list. I play a lot of different styles of games, so my favorites tend to have a bit of variety. Sometimes it is hard to compare and rank games of different complexities and genres. Thanks again for watching!

    As always great content! Even in your top 10 lists we feel immersion 😀! Also that is a great list. I don't feel very much comfortable playing horror themed games, but Im super curious about this war of mine. And also I have 2 games from your list, AH3ed and ghost stories, both are great, but for me I think ghost stories is better

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Lucas! This War of Mine is really unlike anything else, which means many people will hate it. Maybe most. It is long, swingy and unforgiving. And very dark and depressing. Not a game I want to play all the time. A hard game to recommend, but still one of my favorites. Check out my playthrough, because that really shows what the game is. Thanks!

    Great list. I don't play many solo games, so my horror favorites would be multi-player. Fury of Dracula. Terrors of London. Dawn of the Zed. This is a good start.

      Fury would definitely be on my multiplayer horror list along with The Others. Thanks for watching Scyld!

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      Nice! My wheelhouse is more on the sci-fi/fantasy/apocalyptic/adventure/survival side of things, but I definitely enjoy a horror-themed game more than a horror movie. Which is your all time favorite? Thanks for checking out the list!

  • @freeheeler00
    @freeheeler00 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    I might recommend Freedom: The Underground Railroad for much of the same reason you picked This War of Mine. It's not quite as thematic and graphic for sure, but the decisions can be heartbreaking nonetheless and the theme is just dark and sad mostly because it is based on real world events. In the end, the game might be more horrific than fun, though it is a good looking game on the table.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah, I can see that Scot. Freedom is more abstract and the player is a bit more removed from the horrors, giving it a more historical feel. But we definitely bring our own knowledge of the horrors of slavery to the game, which ups the tension and pressure. I need to be in a certain mood to want to play it, for sure. But I definitely admire the game. Thanks for watching Scot!

  • @andrethannhauser6302

    Havent you played Dawn of the Zeds?
    I do miss that game on your list, especially as it has a much darker atmosphere than some games on your list.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is one I've missed out on, but I'm not a fan of zombies as a theme and prefer lighter zombie games. It is a great one for this list, though. Thanks for watching, Andre.

  • @lystic9392
    @lystic9392 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Hmm board games can be a bit scary even though it's quite rare. I vividly remember a plastic dog where you had to push its teeth and if you pushed the wrong one it would bite your hand.
    And I know there's a board game where people are blindfolded at key times because the 'power goes out'. That can be kind of scary. Because someone at the table could be the killer.
    But board games are much better at being tense or panic inducing. Realtime games like Project Elite can be very tense on high difficulties. But those games don't fit the Halloween theme very well.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I didn't really think of Project Elite. I find that to be more of the action genre - definitely exciting and tense. Fun game. Thanks for watching Lystic.

    Have you tried Sub Terra? It’s a tough but fun coop where you play a group of cavers trying to escape a cave. But you’ll also stumble upon some monsters lurking in the darkness, who’ll try and hunt you down… great fun!

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      I haven't managed to get this one to the table, Jay. I got it recently via trade and it definitely sounds like something I would enjoy. Is it just as good solo, or do you prefer it as a co-op? Thanks for reminding me of this one!

    • @jaybear7272
      @jaybear7272 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TotallyTabled I prefer it solo. When a character loses health, they can’t do anything until another character revives them, so you can have null turns. In solo, where you control all 4 characters, that obviously doesn’t matter. Still great either way, though.

      @@TotallyTabled hi, I'm somewhat new to board games, starting to head in the solo route. Just wanted to ask how or where do you make trades? Is at like a website?

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      Welcome! I do my trades via boardgamegeek.com. They have a way to set games for trade and games wanted in trade and you can find matches. I believe others also use Facebook groups, but I don't know how that works. Hope that helps!

      @@TotallyTabled wow thanks for the knowledge, really appreciate it. Also great suggestions, I've picked up some of these games from your videos. My only problem now is I can't play big games even I have them cause my kitchen table is alway in use right now and I can't keep a big table in my room.

    Great video and love the games on this list. Curious about the plastic token containers seen in the Nemesis and Arkham segments, as those look awesome. Where did you get those?

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much! Those are "plastic coin holder capsules" that I ordered on Amazon in bulk for cheap. You have to measure the tokens to get the right size, but they make a huge difference for any game that you draw tokens from a bag. I hope that helps!

    Have you tried The Night Cage? I’ve gotten it recently and really enjoy it. It also has more replayability with different creatures in advance modes.
    I’m really wanting Nemesis so hopefully one day when it’s cheaper I’ll get it.

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      I've never played it, but it seems interesting Weston. Is there a solo mode? Seems like a fun game for my group. Thanks for watching!

    • @WestChamber21
      @WestChamber21 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@TotallyTabled there isn’t really a solo mode per say. The game is meant to be played with at least 4 characters. But my wife and I play it with each of us just taking 2 characters each and it’s very fun that way. Better group game, but I think playing solo would be no problem and even be fun to control all the pons and make experimenting paths.

    Surprised not to see Mansions of Madness second edition on this list. While Arkham Horror the card game is a great solo game, the app being the dungeon master makes MoM a smooth experience

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว

      That is a good pick, Nobby. For some reason MoM has never totally clicked with me. I don't have a good reason why. I'm definitely in the minority on that one, but that is why it isn't on the list. Thanks for watching!

    I like your top ten lists because I often encounter titles I'm not familiar with (for example, Carnival Zombie, 2nd ed.). Really struck by the art in some of these games (Carnival Zombie, Ghost Stories, This War of Mine). Will check out your playthrough of CZ. Now if someone would just teach me how to play Arkham Horror 😖!

    • @TotallyTabled
      @TotallyTabled  ปีที่แล้ว
