Having a ‘quit’ time applies to retired old people too. I schedule activities for myself such as going to the gym, cleaning my shutters, lunch dates, etc. but every afternoon after I have done what I set out to do I sit with a cup of tea and read for an hour or so, then make supper.
#10 - YES! I have an alarm set on my phone for 7:00pm that announces, "Close up the house I'm done adulting." If there are wet clothes in the washer they stay there until morning. Same with dishes in the dry rack. The blinds come down, the lights go dim, and relax time begins. It's made a huge difference in increased productivity and decreased stress levels. 10/10 highly recommend!
A long time ago, when I was a homemaker, i would sometimes stay in my nightclothe most of the day i got little done, plus I felt like a slob. Now i get dressed in actual clothes and feel better and more productive
I am no foodologist, but I’m convinced that preservatives are making us not digest food well - that they are not allowing the food to break down normally. So we are bloated and retaining water, and feeling bad! Thank you for this great list! Number 7 really is an amazing one, that will make me, and my kids and husband, feel so much better. I’ve always said “chores”, dangit.
I agree about the food! I am not a food expert either but I feel so much better after cutting out a lot of the packaged stuff. =) I hope you have a nice day =)
Yes, get rid of the processed food! Seriously I have lost 68 lbs. avoiding the processed food and reading about the new way I can make what I do like a better way. The brain clarity is also amazing! Yes to walking 😊.
I like the way you think. I do wish you wrote the 10 habits in your intro so we aren't having to write everything down. I would rather listen with the list in front of me and later write the 10 things you are talking about. Does that make sense to you?
I agree, change your mindset from I have to do it to I get to do it. A lot of people don’t have a bathroom to clean or a fridge full of food that needs to be cleaned etc.
As a former English teacher & avid reader, I’m tickled you’ve regained your love for reading! We all need relaxing hobbies! I spent a delightful afternoon yesterday lying on my porch swing reading. But I read every day.
How do you recommend getting better at reading. I love the idea of it but when I do I struggle to not have my mind wandering or falling asleep. I also read slow.
@@chuckD87 this may sound crazy, but try to read faster, your brain can take in the info. quickly. Try to move your eyes quicker so your brain doesn’t get bored & start wandering.
All great tips! You always seem to come up with good suggestions to better spend your time and enjoy your fanily. I'm guilty of spending too much time scrolling social media and making a conscious effort to limit the time. Having specific time to watch subscribed channels instead of mindless scrolling. Also started coloring, a calm activity. Bought a nice set of colored pencils and an adult coloring book.
Hi Linda, Coloring is so much fun! I love doing that with my kids, but I also have adult coloring books for when I feel like getting creative in a very relaxed way. =)
Just discovering your channel. Needed this today. New to decluttering & am making progress & maintaining organized areas. Luv your advice about getting outside! I have major depression. Sunshine helps & is essential for us all. Also luv seeing another gardener! This vid really helped me today. U are someone i can relate to. Subbed & looking forward to more. In the meantime I'll chk out your older vids. Thanx again for the inspiration on a gray, rainy day. Take care ✌🏽❤️
Getting ready and dressed properly plus getting outside is so important, and such a great tip! Ever since Im in Homeoffice (since Covid) i make sure to go for a walk in the morning. I realize that I need this to get not only ready but also to "wake up" (since I did not have go walk to the office anymore). It also helps me to get into the "working"-headspace :-) After a parrticuar straining day I also do it a second time after walk. It really promotes winding down and the "outside-exposure" also helps with sleep, i think.
I really enjoy your vlogs Shannon. So professional & a joy to watch. I so agree with getting ready properly in the morning. I’ve worked from home for 10 years & definitely have a more productive day when I start it by getting properly dressed and ready - not that I always do!
So happy you are enjoying reading again. I have always been a bookworm; and still have a book going all the time. The biggest drain for me has always been overscheduling activities or social invites. Even thtough no children anymore; I found it hard to say no. It has taking me years to be careful what I say yes too and how much. I used to always say yes, then dread going when it was time. thanks for saring your tips.
These are excellent habits to implement. I am going to reset my home and get dressed each morning this week. I have just gotten lazy. Thank Shannon, so appreciate this video and the habits
Great list! I especially relate to the last one. There's always more to do and it is important to let ourselves relax and have that down time. Enjoy your week! 🧡
Another great video! I wanted to get back into reading, so I reached out to friends and we have started a casual book club! I look the paradigm shift in number 7!!!! Thank you!
Excellent as always love seeing your everyday family life and choices ❤️I definitely agree with your outlook looking back not regretting just reflecting on how I raised my boys ! My mom always said you can be doing to many activities with children they need to learn to be them and live a little ❤️
Great tips! Thank you so much! I always love the opportunity to reevaluate my habits and learn new ways of how or even just when to do things! Great time of year for a cosy reset 🍁🌼☀️
This was a great video! I liked what you said about not being on your phone unless there's a purpose., You are one of the youtubers on the list of people I purposely watch, I'll probably think of you noe everytime I catch myself mindlessly watching shorts or random videos! I'd love to start reading fiction again but I don't even know where to start! All I read now are parenting books!
I hate starting smth... especially in the morning. But I think I developed a solution. I wake up, do my morning routine, dress in outdoor clothes and go for a walk. By any pretext: taking out trash, buy bread, milk, get a package from deliveries or nothing, just walk. About two kilometers (sometimes even more) by different routes, in fast, but not wearing tempo, like actually going to the office. And when I come back home, my brain and muscles feel fresh and ready. Even if I change back into my home clothes, which is neither fancy nor decent, even if I don't have any makeup on or even hadn't brushed my hair, I'm at work and I'm ready for work. P.S. I'm one of those "tilted necks" but mostly I read books on my phone. Of course, I do have and treasure paper ones, but I cannot carry and read them anywhere anytime and cannot have all I want to read in paper (I'll need a castle for that).
Great tips Shannon! I was wondering if you might recommend a good book or two as the type of books that you described sound like something I would enjoy. 😊
Hello, I really like the author Elin Hilderbrand and I recently read the whole Bridgerton series (romance novels). These are just lighthearted books, nothing too deep, LOL. Right now, I am enjoying a way to escape reality into a more romanticized world, hahaha.
I just finished The Lions of Fifth Avenue by Fiona Davis. This is the summary from the book jacket: "historical novel, a series of thefts roils the iconic New York Public Library, leaving two generations of strong-will women to pick up the pieces." It has two story lines, one that starts in 1913 and one in 1993. I borrowed it from the library and plan to read the author's other books.
I kill two birds with one stone. I get on my Treadmill and do my walk and watch TH-cams. That is where I was just now watching your video. I love my Sundays - after church, then I have my regular videos to watch. Thanks for the hints - a lot of them I have already incorporated myself (great a video, even without your mom - only kidding).
Thank you Shannon for the information and encouragement you have given! 🙂 👍 ❤ There's things I want to improve on and you have nailed it. One is not eating processed foods and getting back to a better mindset concerning the work/chores I need to get done. 🧺 🍳👗 P.S. My husband and I are needing to buy a dining room table and chairs and would like to know where would we be able to purchase the set like yours? 😊
Hello, thank you so much for being here! I found that table and chairs from Ikea and we have had it for around 7 years now. What I love is it extends to be very long and the additional pieces are stored in the table. The chairs are nice too and very sturdy. I am not sure if they still sell it, but it was affordable. The only thing I did that changed the chairs is I covered the seats with a water proof plastic type fabric and I am happy I did. There have been some major spills on these chairs. =)
I'm confused about Craftsy. I clicked the link and it says that it will be $123.00. How does this work? It sounds fun and I'd love to take classes. Also, what TH-cam channels do you enjoy?

Fun vlog, but No. I work outside the home.. and I prefer to be a "weekend warrior" with cleaning the house from top to bottom in one go (at weekend, when home).
